Frank And Oak Style Plan for Men September 2018 Review

When you first sign up for this subscription, you fill out a style profile that captures your sizing preferences and your sense of style. (Choose from Casual, Classic, and Creative). You’ll also be able to set a budget for different types of clothing that could be included.

Before your box ships, you get an email inviting you to hop in and preview your order. The page that opens up shows you the items that have been selected for you. You can switch out the chosen items for others on this page if you desire. The plan includes three items, but you can choose more or less than three if you’d like. The prices are all discounted for you, so it’s a deal compared to just shopping the regular site.

Here’s the invoice for the three pieces John ended up with, plus the return instructions. (If you didn’t know before, Frank And Oak is a Canadian company, which explains all the French you’ll see on their packaging and paperwork!)

John switched out 2 of the 3 items this month. Let’s see what he ended up choosing!

Machine Washable Merino Sweater in Burgundy Heather, L – Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50

Put washable in the name and you’re sure to catch my attention. This is a 100% Merino wool sweater that can be machine washed! Without shrinkage! Whoa. The color is a beautiful, rich burgundy that looks great with John’s skin and the smooth finish gives it a nice, polished look. It’s lightweight enough to not get stuffy and John loves that it is soft and not scratchy. It hangs well on him and doesn’t cling around the waist.

The Miles Straight Stretch Denim in Navy, 34x34

The Miles Straight Stretch Denim in Navy, 34×34 – Retail Value $69.50, Member Price $54.50

Like all of the pants John has received from Frank & Oak, these are very long. They only offer a 34 length with the 34 waist size and he really could use a 30 in length. He really likes these, so he doesn’t mind getting them hemmed to his exact length. They have a little stretch because of the 1% spandex/99% cotton mix which makes them very comfortable. The solid, dark blue wash looks sleek and can be dressed up or down. I think the price is fair for high-quality, sustainable denim too!

Machine Washable Merino Sweater in Navy Floral, L

Machine Washable Merino Sweater in Navy Floral, L – Retail Value $89.50, Member Price $79.50

This is the same sweater as the red one, but with an abstract floral pattern. John really didn’t connect with anything else in his selections (besides the red sweater and jeans) but still wanted to order 3 items. The colors are really nice but the pattern is a bit too big and busy for John’s taste. I give him credit for trying something new though. He ended up returning this for free within his 10-day try on period and receiving a refund. The account interface is really user-friendly and made it super simple to request a return label and track the return.

The Verdict: Frank And Oak and John must be on the same page. Each month has been successful for him and he trusts the quality and fit. The pricing and style feel similar to what he might find at the GAP, but with a sustainable angle. It’s really great that he can log on ahead of time and make adjustments to the chosen items to make sure he ends up with items he’ll like. This is the first return he’s done, and it was quick and easy. I appreciate that he now feels comfortable enough with F&O to take some style risks without worry. Plus, his style and wardrobe are looking pretty spiffy these days.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, each box is customized based on your style plan. Under the new $25 styling fee plan, boxes ship automatically on the 1st of the month, and you can log in 2 days before shipment to add or remove items or skip the month altogether. That said, you can still follow the product links above to shop these items for yourself from their site catalog!

New Deal: Use this link to get your first box with no styling fee!

Value Breakdown: John paid the member’s price of $203.50 for the three items he received this month, which would have cost $238.50 at their regular retail prices. He decided to return one item so he was refunded the $79.50 for that item. If he had decided to return all three items, he’d pay the $25 styling fee and would be refunded the remaining amount, but since he kept at least one item, no styling fee was charged.
