Exotic Noods Food Subscription Review – August 2018
Exotic Noods is a ramen subscription box that delivers noodles from around the world every month! You receive four or eight ramens a month, and you can choose “regular” or “no spicy.” Bonus— this box doesn’t have “Exotic Noods” prominently displayed if that is something you don’t want others to see 😉
There are three subscription options for this box. You can get the red pack, which will require you to cook your noodles in a pot or separate bowl, the black pack, which comes conveniently packaged and you only need to add hot water, or the green pack, which is both the red and black packs in one box.
This review is of the Red 4 Pack, $20 a month, box.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Exotic Noods August 2018 Review
This month no info sheet was included. All of the ramens had English instructions for cooking, but I have no idea what the official names of these noodles are. Bear with me while I try to wing it!
Ottogi Plain Instant Noodle
Well, this isn’t much fun. In a box labeled “exotic” I am not really in love with receiving a basic plain noodle with no flavoring of any kind. I didn’t cook this, as I’m keeping it in my pantry for the next time I potentially have a flavorful broth but no ramen noodles to go with it.
Unif Chinese Onion Flavored Rice Noodles
I have received this exact brand and flavor of noodle before in a previous Exotic Nood, only instead of the typical ramen noodle, this is a rice noodle. Rice noodles aren’t really my favorite, but I enjoy the sweet umami flavor that comes from the Chinese onion. I made this as a late night snack when I got home from an evening out, and I was so busy slurping the tasty onion broth I forgot to snap a picture of it. Sorry!
Mi Sedaap White Curry Ramen
Based on internet research I think this ramen comes from Malaysia. I am not really sure what white curry is, and trying this ramen out didn’t really answer my question. This had a really unique aroma that was almost perfumey in a way, and when I tasted it I thought that I tasted clams of some sort. This was not agreeable with my taste buds.
Indo Mie Goreng Fried Noodles – Buy a box of 10 for $10.97
These noodles right here are a game changer. They are from Indonesia, and inside the packaging is the noodles and five different seasonings, oils, and toppings. To make these you boil the noodles and drain them. On a plate, you dump out all the seasonings (the instructions said “to taste” but as I didn’t know what I was tasting I figured go big or go home), and then you add the drained noodles and mix it all together. This was SO good. I think noodles prepared without the extra liquid is my favorite way to eat them, and these tasted exactly like the Asian BBQ flavored snacks I have tried in some of my other reviews. This isn’t a typical American BBQ flavor, but there is a smoky, savory tang to the sauce that is addicting. The sauce also had a bit of heat that built as I ate, but if the spice isn’t to your taste you can control the chili sauce used! One of the seasonings was crispy fried onions, and I loved the small bit of crunch the onion provided! I loved this ramen so much I went to google to try and find it, and I ended up buying a box of 10 that will be here in 2 days.
The Verdict: Honestly, I think Exotic Noods is slipping. The lack of info sheet combined with an almost exact repeat and one of the noodles literally being plain noodles makes feel like this month’s box was not thoughtfully curated. I am really happy with one of my new favorite ramen discoveries in the Indo Mie, but I don’t feel like one good ramen makes up for the rest of the box this month.
To Wrap Up:
Can you get this box if you sign up today? Since the target ship date, each month is the 5th, I believe if you sign up today you will get the October box.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $20 with free shipping and I received four packs of ramen. That breaks down to $5 a pack.
