Cat Lady Box September 2018 Review

Cat Lady Box is always full of fun, cat-themed lifestyle items. Let’s see what was in store for August:

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. And the back has more information about the items in the box.

Posh Peacock Catnip Toy – Listed Value $4.99

This is the “crazy” cat lady version of the box, so it comes with two cat toys. At least one of the toys per month is usually a catnip plush, like this one. This stands out because of the FEATHERS (my cats love feathers). Everyone was kind of sleepy when I took photos this month, but this was popular later one when they woke up. (In my kitties’ defense, four are seniors, one of the seniors is blind, and Angus is still wearing an e-collar.)

Cat Bling Rings – Listed Value $4.99

These are little strips of plastic meant to mimic milk carton rings. They’re a little stiffer than that. These were pretty popular as well but I can only let my cats play with them while supervised or Nyx will get ahold of them and eat them…

Cat Hair Laundry Hamper – Listed Value $19.99

Everything in my house is covered in cat hair. But anyway, I needed a separate basket or hamper for my stuff that needs to be hand washed (because I rarely hand wash and it piles up and fills up my regular laundry basket) and this will work nicely.

Cat Hair Laundry Hamper

Cat Earrings – Listed Value $9.99

We received an email this month asking us to choose silver or gold and I picked “surprise me” because I don’t honestly have a preference. I received silver, which is fine by me. These are pretty simple stud earrings in a kitty shape. I don’t know what metal the posts are made of so I coated them with clear nail polish (if you are metal sensitive, you can often get away with wearing earrings you’re not sure about by doing this, you just need to reapply the polish every now and then).

Shiny Cats Scarf – Listed Value $14.99

This was (I think) another silver/gold preference item. For the record, no, I would not actually wear that scarf with that dress (!) but it was what I had on when I was taking pictures (end of the week, most laundry was dirty), and I couldn’t get a good shot of the scarf on the floor or table, but I wanted you to see it not just folded up. It is lightweight and will be good for the transition to autumn.

Angus has taken up residence in a box and doesn’t move too often so here are some pictures of me holding up toys for him to inspect.

Madison investigates the peacock.

Monkey has taken up residence in a different box, in a sunny window (hence the weird shadows). (Yes, we leave a lot of empty boxes around the house, just for cats.)

Sneaky with one of the plastic rings.

And here is Mr. Kitty, back out and about. His respiratory infection is almost gone (he’s given it to Sneaky and Madison, but oh well, they are much healthier in general). He is eating again and really he has made a remarkable turnaround for just starting insulin a week and a half ago. (For what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure he can’t see at all anymore.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $54.95 for the September 2018 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That’s not the highest value I’ve ever seen for this subscription, but it is about $15 over the month-to-month cost of the box, and all the items are or will be useful to me. It was fun to get to choose a color (even if I ultimately just took the surprise) and although my cats do like the catnip plushes we get, it is nice to receive a different type of toy every now and then, as well.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Orders have to be placed by the 22nd of the previous month. So if you sign up today, you'll receive the October box.

While I liked and will use almost everything in this box, and the laundry hamper is fabulous, I don’t see how it fit their “Glitz and Glampurr” theme for September. There is nothing glitzy or glampurrous about dirty laundry—or clean laundry, for that matter. That aspect of the box was a bit disappointing. My favorite part of the box each month is my unboxing, because as soon as I open the box, my kitten, Penny, noses her way to the catnip toy, pulls it out herself, then prances off to play with it. She loves the peacock because she loves feathers as well. This month when she sniffed around for her second toy, and I think she was disappointed that there was only one plush toy. She doesn’t like the plastic ring toys. : (

I will pick up that adorable hamper the next time they run a sale on their website. It’s adorable (and so true).
