BookCase.Club for Kids August 2018 Review

Disney Frozen Olaf's 1-2-3 by Winnie Ho - Listed Retail Value $6.99 (found here for $5.59)

This book is perfect for my 2-year-old son. He loves Olaf and all things Frozen, so I was really happy to see this in our box. I also love that it is a counting book because it's a fun way to reinforce those skills for him. I liked that it wasn't just a counting book, but also had a bit of a storyline as well making it much more engaging than the traditional counting books. Plus the snowflakes are textured and sparkly, which makes it even more fun!

Little Sleepyhead by Elizabeth McPike - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $4.05)

While this isn't a board book, I think this is definitely appropriate for the newborn to two-year-old range, so I don't mind in this case. The book features short rhymes about tired babies and the illustrations are very soft and sweet. This is an adorable book that can be read to an infant, but might even engage an older child as well because all of the little babies throughout are so darn cute!

Dee and Bee by Robin Isabel Ahrens - Retail Value $14.95

Well, this is not a board book, definitely isn't appropriate for the newborn to 2-year-old age range, and would probably appeal more to a girl, so I am really not sure how this ended up in our box this month. Fortunately, I have a four-year-old daughter though, so this is fine for our family, but not everyone might be so willing to receive something so outside of their preferences.

This book features twins, Dee and Bee, who like to switch places to fool the people around them. While the book was meant to be fun and have kids determine which sister did each thing, I found it a bit confusing instead. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the concept is silly enough to engage kids, but I wasn't a big fan. The text could have been better, maybe with some rhyming or at least some sort of pattern to it.

Verdict: While I liked two of the three books we received this month from BookCase.Club I still can't help but feel a little confused as to why our preferences weren't taken into consideration. We should have received board books for a newborn to two-year-old boy, but instead, we received one board book and two pictures books, one of which was definitely not age-appropriate. They have been consistently sending board books for younger children, so I'm not sure what happened this month. Fortunately, the value we received was still well above the $14.99 ($9.99 + $5.00 shipping) cost of the box at $38.93 so I'm still happy since the books will be read and enjoyed by my children!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I get the same subscription with the same age group and we received all three of the same books you received. I wasn’t too happy with the selections. I also get this sub for my older daughter (4 yrs old) and I tend to love the books they send in her box.
