Bonjour Jolie August 2018 "Back To School" Review

Alright! Let's start with the goods! The theme for this month is Back to School and all of my menstrual products came wrapped in these discreet, yet perfectly festive book themed plastic bags.

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

Tampax Always Radiant Tampons in Regular (12)- Buy 16 for $3.97

Kotex Long Liners (3) - Buy 16 for $0.99 (I think these are it, but they aren't labeled!)

Always Infinity Overnight Pads (3) - Buy 28 for $6.99

This month I chose 12 tampons, three pantyliners, and five pads, however, I only received three pads for some reason. I reached out to customer service and they got back to me quickly and assured me they would send extra in my next box so hopefully, they follow through! You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile.

Scensibles Travel Packs (2)- Buy 10 sets for $7.95 (found here for $6.00)

These bags are a safe, sanitary way to dispose of used menstrual products. The packets are small and fit easily into my purse to use on the go. Each packet has three individual bags and the scent is pretty light, so it isn't overwhelming.

Advil to Go Packs (2) –  Buy 50 packets for $9.98

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Famous Amos Bite Size Chocolate Chip Cookies 2 oz bag – Buy 42 for $14.99

Now we're getting to the good stuff! I haven't had these cookies in so long so I forgot how delicious these actually are. A perfect snack for those grumpy days to keep me from baking an entire batch of cookies instead.

Hershey's Gold Carmelized Creme Pretzels and Peanuts Candy Bar, 1.4 oz - Estimated Value $0.89

My candy bar didn't quite survive the ridiculous heat, but I was still able to taste enough of it. A salty, sweet treat. It isn't something I'd purchase if given a choice of candy bars, but it was a delicious treat to try.

I love that they wrapped up some items so nicely, which made it feel more like a gift when opening it.

Nature's Bakery Fig Bars (2) - Buy 6 for $2.99

I received two packs of these fig bars in raspberry and blueberry. Each packet comes with two in a pack. My family loves these, so I will be sharing these with them.

Stash Tea Bags (3) - Buy a 10 ct sampler pack for $3.50 (This doesn't have all three flavors, but is the closest of the samplers!)

A nice cup of tea is perfect to soothe the menstrual blues. I was intrigued by the green chai and had to try it. It tastes just like it sounds, chai tea, but with that bitter bite of green tea. I'll save the rest for another day because in my house, coffee comes first.

Stainless Steel Coffee Mug 14 oz. - Estimated Value $6.00 (I am assuming this was a custom design and couldn't find it online, but I linked to something comparable)

This mug held about 14 oz when I measured it and is a great size to keep my morning coffee warm. The lid just snaps into place with a rubber ring to keep it snug and has an open spout (see below) so it definitely isn't spill-proof, but it's good enough for me to use around the house. The quote is cute and subtle in design.

Surprise! I opened my mug to find even more goodies inside!

Milano Dark Chocolate Cookie 2 pack - Buy 20 for $16.45

These are another great treat that I will be saving for a much-needed pick-me-up one day! This little two-pack is great because it means I don't need to exercise any self-control and can eat the whole pack!

Now and Laters, 4 Packs  (4)- Buy a 60.7 oz jar (about 100 packs) for $14.99

A classic candy that I haven't had in forever. Each pack has 4 candies for a total of 16 and I love that there is a mix of flavors. Yum!

Manna Kadar Eye Candy Priming Shadow Stick - Retail Value $24

So I'm not sure if this just didn't stand up to the heat either or was just broken, but the actual primer seemed to have come loose from the tube and smooshed up against the lid. I was able to get it back in the tube and wind it down, but I lost some of the top and made a huge mess in the process. Fortunately, since I am not new to subscription boxes and neither is Manna Kadar, I have already received this once before, so I wasn't completely upset. I did address this when I reached out to customer service about the missing pads to see how they would handle it and they assured me that they would send a new one in my next shipment, even though they felt that it was probably due to the heat instead of just a broken product.

As for the primer, I actually like using it as an undereye concealer. Since the tip was already broken off, I found that this was able to glide on smoothly and blended well to provide good coverage. This product is pretty versatile in that it can be used as an eye or lip primer, concealer or highlighter/shadow. It's one of those things that's good to keep in your travel bag since it has many uses.

Verdict: This was my first time receiving Bonjour Jolie and I was happy to see that it was a packed box. I love the convenience of having my monthly products shipped to my door, especially since I am quite forgetful lately when it comes to stocking up (you'd think I have three kids or something...) so this ensures that I have what I need when I need it. I also like the flexibility in products that you can choose each month. This company seems very willing to customize your box and meet your needs whether it's allergens or just personal preferences, which is great because not everyone needs the same things and it's nice to have options! We paid $24.48 ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) for this month's box and I estimate the total value of everything to be about $39.23 which is great for such a nice mix of useful items and fun treats!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

My eye-shadow melted too, but they sent out another one in my September box when i emailed them too. They are really great like that, and I appreciate the care they put into the boxes.

Did you not get the info card that comes with the box? I need to see if I still have mine for you!
