Tea Box Express August 2018 Review

You can usually expect one tea (sometimes more), one accessory, and one edible item (sometimes more) in this box. Occasionally there will be other tea-themed items as well:

There was a card asking you to share your box contents on social media. This subscription typically does not have an information card with it.

Loose Leaf Market Uber-Berry (2 oz)

Loose Leaf Market Uber-Berry (2 oz) – Retail Value $16.50

This one is beautiful to look at! The whole berry pieces are really big (and identifiable). This has licorice, which I do not like in tea, but you can’t really taste it here. This is a green tea so it is caffeinated but it really stands up well to brewing for a long time (like if you tend to get busy with other things and forget you made tea, or maybe this is only a problem I have). I think this one would be good iced, as well.

SimplyM California Floating Tea Infuser

SimplyM California Floating Tea Infuser – Retail Value $11.99

The more tea infusers you have, the less often you have to clean them out. (OK, maybe that says something about me.) Anyway, this is cool because even though it is stainless steel, it doesn’t get too hot to touch after sitting in the hot water. It really does float, too, and you can use the bottom part to keep from getting drips all over the place once you remove it from your mug.

Little Belgians Vanilla Speculoos Cookies (1.2 oz)

Little Belgians Vanilla Speculoos Cookies (1.2 oz) – Buy 4.8 oz for $7.99

You don’t see these outside of the package because they arrived in fragments. They were tasty fragments, though, and dipping them in tea was nice to soften them up a bit.

Old Town Spice Shop Mint Julep Sugar (1 oz) – Retail Value $2.90

Because this is mint-flavored, I would not suggest putting it in this month’s tea from this subscription, but I just got a ton of teas from Fit Snack Box, many of which are unflavored, so those have been a convenient way for me to use this. I think this also might be nice on a chocolate dessert. I plan to do some baking on Labor Day so we will see!

Tea Thoughts Bookmark – Retail Value $7.99

Although this is printed on very nice cardstock in full color, and is from Etsy with free shipping, I do think the retail value is sort of high. I don’t typically even spend this much for birthday cards (and I buy the Papyrus ones with all kinds of stuff glued to them). Anyway, I have been making an effort this year to read all the novels I have accumulated in the past decade that I haven’t gotten to yet, and many are in paper, so I will be able to get some use out of this.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $39.38 for this month’s Tea Box Express, excluding the cookies, which weren’t available in a sample size online. I didn’t see as much of a theme this month as last month, but I did like each of the individual items and thought this was a pretty typical box for this subscription (with perhaps a somewhat higher retail value than usual).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your subscription would start with the September box. From Tea Box Express:

Order by the 5th of the month to receive the same month's box. Order after the 5th of the month and receive your first box starting the next calendar month. If you make your purchase after the 5th but we have extra boxes, we'll let you know by email.

Coupon - Use coupon code MSA20 for 20% off your first month!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $31.49 (including shipping), so you are paying a few dollars less than the retail prices listed above for the items, with the exception of the cookies, which can be considered a bonus!

I came back to this subscription this month because of the FFF tea infusing pot we’re getting. I realized how MUCH I’ve missed having this subscription!!

My cookies were gorgeously intact and delicious. I really liked the not- too- sweetness and the crispiness. ( Not a cookie dunker here). 😉

I subscribed right on the cusp of last month’s shipment and this month’s shipment, and asked if they had any of the iced tea brew boxes left, as it is HOT here 10 months out of 12, and although they didn’t, they sent me 3 different teas from that box in a padded mailing envelope after I got this month’s subscription box as a nice surprise.

I think they are just the nicest, kindest, and most thoughtful tea curators around, and also rate highly in my entire subscription list of about 60 monthly or quarterly curators.

Niceness from the owner goes a VERY LONG way when the products are also really high quality and other sellers have similar items, you know? Thank you again, Tea Box Express, this is not the first time you’ve done special little things! 😉
