Pop Shop America Monthly DIY Box August 2018 Review

PopShopAmericaAug18.4Card

Each box comes with a card listing the box’s contents. This month’s box comes with a DIY Flower Crown Kit, a set of two glue sticks, a tube of glue, and a roll of floral washi tape.

Washi Tape - Estimated Value $3

My bonus item is a floral washi tape. Very cute and appropriate, given my DIY project! I based the estimated value on similar rolls found on Etsy.com

Oh Dina Peach and Mint DIY Floral Crown Kit - Retail Value $32

This kit includes 18 flowers with wire stems, a twig wire halo and an assortment of leafy greens. Packaged separately from the kit were two glue sticks and a tube of glue for adhering the leaves.

Now let’s assemble this queen’s crown!

PopShopAmericaAug18.8Instructions

Luckily this box came with an easy to follow set of instructions.

PopShopAmericaAug18.9Action1

The first step is to measure the twig halo to your head, then twist the ends so it is secure.

PopShopAmericaAug18.10Action2

I grouped all of the flowers according to size and paired all of the similar greens together to get an idea of what I was working with.

PopShopAmericaAug18.11Action3

I started my crown by twisting the wire stems of the bigger flowers around the overlapping/twisted twig. I attempted to fill in the gaps of the bigger flowers with the medium flowers, then I painstakingly wrapped the smallest buds around the halo, trying not to crush or overlap any bigger flowers.

PopShopAmericaAug18.12Action4

After adjusting each flower to make sure it is seen, I must tackle this greenery.

PopShopAmericaAug18.13Action5

I warmed up my dusty hot glue gun and placed dots of hot glue on the back of the twig wire. Holding each leaf down for about 20 seconds, I secured a few here and there behind the flowers.

PopShopAmericaAug18.14Action6

One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I created a jungle backdrop for my pretty flower crown! It is safe to say that I am a glue gun novice, but luckily, no one is here to judge the back of my crown, right?

It was actually really fun and relaxing putting this thing together. I am always up for a fun craft that isn’t too monotonous or precise, so this flower crown was the perfect speed for me.

PopShopAmericaAug18.18Done4 PopShopAmericaAug18.19Done5

I love the look of a flower crown in the right setting; the pretty pastels of the flowers contrast nicely with the greens, creating a cute summery feel. Needless to say, I am the new DIY queen, smugly wearing my crown; Murray opted out, said being queen was too ruff...

Verdict: Pop Shop America mixes it up every month, and I love that! I rely on subscription boxes to help me step out of my comfort zone and try new things, and that’s exactly what this box did for me. I’ve never even tried on a flower crown, and now I’ve made my own! I appreciate that Pop Shop America included two types of glue, just in case a subscriber did not own a glue gun, and I also think that the washi tape was a fun bonus that was on point with my DIY craft. I am always impressed with the quality items that Pop Shop America includes in their subscriptions, and I love never knowing what to expect when I open one up!

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
