Mommy Mailbox August 2018 "Staycation" Review

Each box comes with a card detailing the month’s products and brands. The theme this month is “Staycation” and the box was curated by featured blogger, Kelley Jewel.

Monstera Leaf Keytag by Swell Made Co - Retail Value $9.25 ($12.00 CAD)

This cute tropical leaf keytag is made of acrylic so it's super lightweight and the gold on the front is super shiny. Very cute and summery!

Silver Open Weave Cuff Bracelet by Jesse and Co - Retail Value $32

This cuff is antique sterling silver dipped and is very light in weight. It is easily adjustable since the material is so thin, but this also makes it feel a bit low in quality to me. This is definitely not my style at all, so I will be gifting this to someone who might wear it!

It was just a bit too long and stiff on my wrist to fit comfortably and I definitely prefer daintier pieces when it comes to bracelets. I also think the cutouts look more like some sort of grate for cooking or a part for a car which wasn't too flattering.

Market Bags by Lulu's Jewels - Retail Value $29.90 ($14.95 each)

These bags are really cute and not huge at 13 x 13 inches. I use reusable grocery bags all the time, so I'll use these to replace some of my older bags. I love the whimsical, bright designs! Subscribers will receive two out of four possible variations and these are actually from the featured blogger's shop, which I thought was cool.

The bags are fairly thin, but they open up a good bit. I was able to fit the entire Mommy Mailbox inside easily so they should hold a decent amount.

Wholesome Organic Fruit Chews 2 oz bag - Retail Value $1.99

I love Starburst and these are like an organic, natural version. I was open to trying them and at first, I thought they were delicious. I was hit with a punch of flavor right off the bat, but as I chewed more, they tasted pretty waxy and didn't melt too easily. I'm sure I'll still be eating all of these, but I definitely wouldn't seek them out.

Verdict: This was the second Mommy Mailbox in a row where I felt like they didn't hit on the theme at all really. They definitely tried to tie everything into the theme on the intro card ("hit up the farmer's market" with your totes or wear your bracelet for a date night), but even those activities don't really scream Staycation to me. The keytag is really cute and I like the market bags, but overall, this box just felt really boring to me. I wish the treat was something a little more indulgent that would have felt more like a vacation treat. The total value came to $73.14 and while that sounds great for a $33.95 box, I just don't feel like what I received is equivalent to that. I'm usually really pleased with this box, so I'm hoping it's just a summer slump - if that's even a thing!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I’m so bummed by this box lately! I used to be excited to open it and it was well curated, now I open it worried about what cheaply made items are inside. I don’t know why I haven’t canceled yet, I keep hoping it will get better. Fingers crossed it is a summer slump.

That bracelet looks like a torture device. This box has definitely gone downhill. Pretty sure it doesn’t take too much creativity to curate a theme and contents to match. This one is a big NO!!

This use to be one of my favorite boxes. What happened? The May box was the last decent box.

I agree. I got the cutest Olive + Piper Angel earrings from this box last October. Before that a heavy duty beach bag. I’m not a subscriber anymore, but I would have been very disappointed with this box. I feel like every time they have a sale, they make up for it by cutting back on the quality of the boxes.

I have given up on this box! It has been lacking each time for me

This box along with last month’s miss (fake eyelashes and cheap sunglasses, really?) have led me to cancel my subscription. And I was getting it at a lower price. Not even worth that rate.

I was thinking the same thing about the theme… either do it right or don’t do it at all. It takes away from the overall box when you go in expect something and it’s such a miss. The bracelet is pretty meh to begin with but putting it in a “staycation” box makes it out of place and pushes the dislike factor more. If they made a “make a statement box” you might not like it but at least you would get it.

Exactly! Staycation jewelry to me would mean more of a casual piece you could wear comfortably at home. 😕

Jodie

that cuff is hideous

A Halloween bracelet. Scary looking!

This is one of the worst boxes I have received. Will definitely not renew and wish I had not bought an annual sub.

I don’t think this looks worth the cost of the subscription. It reminds me of a TJ Maxx clearance section.

I like TJ Maxx’s clearance section more.

I agree about these last 2 months being kind of “blah.”
