Love With Food Gluten Free August 2018 Review
I’m excited to explore this month’s gluten-free Love with Food box. Full disclosure, I don’t eat a totally gluten-free diet, nor do I need to for health reasons. But I do find that I feel more sluggish when I eat a lot of gluten-rich foods, so I’m curious to learn about the world of gluten-free eating via this box!
Here’s the info booklet for the box.
2 Just the Cheese White Cheddar Snacks, 0.5 oz each. – Buy 16 or $23.84 here
These low-carb snacks are SO GOOD! They go down like really strong, dense cheese crackers, but there’s no cracker involved in this recipe. These snacks are just toasted cheese! I loved how savory and satisfying they are. And I’m thrilled I got two packs!
Gluten-Free Brownie Brittle in Dark Chocolate Sea Salt, 5 oz. – Buy a 4 pack for $16.99 here
This is the best thing I could’ve gotten in this box! Brownie Brittle is one of my favorite sweet snacks. It legitimately tastes like the crispy edges of a pan of brownies. This style has a dusting of sea salt and rich chocolate chips sprinkled over each chunk. These bits are so good to munch on, I had to walk out of the room they were in to stop eating them!
I couldn’t find these individual packets of coconut oil online, but I think they’re super convenient for on-the-go needs. I could see stashing this packet to use as a body oil or hair treatment on vacay, or to toss into a smoothie at work. I like using coconut oil for cooking, so I thought it was cool to try a new brand. (I think right now I use the Whole Foods brand.) I didn’t find that there was a huge noticeable flavor difference from what I’m used to, but I appreciate that it’s organic!
This second packet is just slightly different. The “refined” quality means that the flavor isn’t quite as coconutty (at least to me), so it’s a little better for recipes where you don’t want to interrupt certain flavors with a coconut taste.
Sahale Naturally Pomegranate Flavored Pistachios, 1.5 oz. – Buy a pack of 18 for $34.68 (found on sale here for $32.95)
These nuts are a great combo of salty and sweet. The pomegranate glaze woke my tastebuds up, and the tender, flavorful mix of nuts is filling as well as fun. There’s even a pop of black pepper in the mix for extra dimension. I could see making this a regular in my snacking routine—it checks all the boxes for me!
2 Pop Corners Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn Snack Bags, 0.5 oz. each – Buy a 40 pack of 1 oz. bags for $27.34
Pop Corners are so delicious, and these little snack bags are just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth—and my savory one! They taste a bit like chips made from Pops cereal, with a hint of corny sweetness alongside a hint of saltiness.
More kettlecorn! This version is more traditional than the pop corners, but just as yummy. I like popcorn as a workday snack, since it’s light but still relatively filling.
I also got two Rx Nut Butters! I know their bars, but I didn’t know they made nut butter, too!
Rx Bar Vanilla Nut Butter, 1.13 oz. – Retail Value $2.00
Mmmm this butter is so good. I love the addition of vanilla to the mix. It’s not terribly sweet or anything, but the vanilla makes the butter just slightly more decadent.
Rx Bar Peanut Butter, 1.13 oz. – Retail Value $2.00
I think I liked the almond butter better, but this rich, yummy peanut butter was pretty great. I could see either of these packets coming in handy for an afternoon snack (maybe on a cracker or an apple) or I could squish it over some oatmeal or into a smoothie at work.
I’m not a big lollipop fan, but it was cute to have these included in the box and learn about the brand. One is a slightly sour apple flavor and the other is grape. I think there’s bubblegum in the center of each one!
Beech Nut Quinoa Crispies in Vanilla, 0.56 oz. – Buy 6 5-bar boxes for $34.99
It’s hard to top a real Rice Krispies treat, but this quinoa version is SUPER good! It gives me the same sweet satisfaction and crunch of the original, plus the punch of vanilla makes the whole thing really dessert-y.
Garden of Life Gol Bar in Chocolate Sea Salt, 2.11 oz. – Buy 12 for $29.88
This chewy bar had a brownie-ish flavor about it. It had a little bit of a protein powder flavor to me, but it’s tastier than other chewy protein bars I’ve tried before. I like that it has lots of organic ingredients. I do wish it had plant-based protein rather than milk-based protein powder since milk-based stuff can be tricky on my stomach.
The Verdict: This month’s Love with Food Gluten-Free assortment was right up my alley. I love savory/sweet snacks like these. This subscription is a great way to keep my desk stash stocked with snacks for mid-afternoon slumps. Everything’s gluten-free, but there were plenty of indulgent snacks in there—I didn’t feel like I was missing the flavors I love most at all.
