GiftLit is a monthly book gift subscription service that sends books to a recipient of your choice each month. They have several collections to choose from for both children and adults. Once you select the age of your recipient, then you can choose from various collections that are curated specifically for that age group.

They offer 3, 6 or 12-month gift subscriptions. For children, they offer both board and picture books and have collections such as the Cuddle Collection, Science and Nature or even Trains, Planes and Things That Go. For adults, they offer both paperback and hardback novels with genres ranging from Romance, Mysteries, and Thrillers to Eat, Drink and Party. They also allow you to fully customize your collection if you’d like.

This review is of a mix of the Children’s Cuddle Collection for ages 2-5 and for babies.

GiftLit August 2018 Review

Before receiving my books, I received a card in the mail from GiftLit that welcomed me and provided my gift code. One thing I really like about this service is that you always have the option to go online and swap out any of the books you’re scheduled to receive. This is great to ensure that recipients get books that they really want and don’t end up with any books that they already have or are not interested in. They also allow you to return any book that is shipped to you within 30 days.

My book came wrapped in this bright, colorful paper. This is an option that costs an extra $3/month. It’s nice that they have this option, but when you’re paying for a gift subscription, I feel like this is one of those things that should already be included.

The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywat - Retail Value $17.99 (Found here for $12.59)

I was excited to see this book in our box this month. I have read this before and as a former art teacher, it's one of my favorites. I don't have this in my personal library, so I was happy to be able to add it to ours and share this with my own children. This book is about a boy named Duncan and a stack of letters that he receives from his crayons. Red is very upset that he is used so much and needs a break, while poor white is upset at how little he gets used in his drawings. It's a really fun read from the perspective of the crayons and was a perfect silly book for my 2 and 3-year old. It was also a great book to talk about colors!

Merry Makers The Day the Crayons Quit Finger Puppet Playset - Retail Value $20.00 (found here for $16.31)

The only thing that made our book even better was this set of crayon finger puppets to go along with it. These cute crayons came inside their own little crayon box which means that they will be easy to travel with, which is something I am always a fan of. The kids have been having a lot of fun playing with these and pretending to draw on things, which is so much better than them actually drawing on everything with crayons! I love that they all have little string arms that move and can cross to show that they are upset or to signal that they quit, just like in the story.

Verdict: The total value of the book and finger puppets was $37.99 which is just a bit over the monthly cost of $33.41 per month ($172.46 for 6 months + $28 shipping). Once again, the value seems pretty fair for such a great book and cute finger puppet set, but the sale prices are so much lower that it takes away from the value a bit for me.

This subscription service does offer a lot of different books and various collections, so the value could change a lot depending on your choices and even vary from month to month. I do think this is a great gift for a book lover since you really can’t go wrong with them being able to choose their own books if they want to, but it just depends on what your budget is.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you can order this collection and customize it so that you receive the same book.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
