Cosmo Box Subscription Review – July/August 2018

There’s a new subscription box from Cosmopolitan – CosmoBox! Each month you’ll receive items selected by Cosmopolitan editors.

FYI – Cosmobox seems to be having some shipping issues. The June box arrived in July, and the July box got pushed back to August (and they let subscribers know they wouldn’t be charged for August.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: CosmoBox by Cosmopolitan

The Cost: $29.99 a box + $6 shipping

The Products: “Curated by the editors of Cosmopolitan magazine, this unique monthly subscription box brings you full-size quality goodies that compliment and empower your multidimensional lifestyle.”

Ships to: US

Keep track of your subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wish list!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included:

Now, on to the items!

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan – Retail Value $16

I was very excited to see this in the box. I can’t wait to see the movie, but really wanted to read the book first, so now I have my weekend reading plans! (If you’ve read the book/seen the movie, let me know if you recommend it!)

The Jennifer Cosmopolitan Sunglasses – Value Listed $35

These aviators have gold metal detail and tortoiseshell temple designs.

I love gold and aviators, so these were a perfect pair for me!

Here they are on:

Avéne Hydrating Sunscreen Balm SPF 50+ – Retail Value $16

This is a gentle sunscreen stick designed for delicate areas like ears, lips, eye contour, scars, etc. It goes on clear, is water resistant for 80 minutes, and has no discernable scent. I’m a fan!

Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Dry Shampoo – Retail Value $3.99

This dry shampoo goes on clear, smells fresh and floral, and doesn’t add any texture. If you want a dry shampoo without any volume/texture, this is a good one.

Saltwater Sundays Moisturizer – Value Listed $24

This is a lotion designed to be used post-sun. It’s made with aloe vera and “infused with Sea Salt, Coconut, and a shot of Vitamin Sea.” I was expecting a coconut/beachy scent, so I was a little disappointed with the scent. It smells more like your typical hair product. (Nothing wrong with that, I just love coconut!)

The formula is light and didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy.

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $94. That’s not bad for $35.99, but it’s a bit of a bummer getting a box that’s meant for Summer at the end of August. I’m already in fall mode! I really hope Cosmobox gets their shipping sorted out. We need a great women’s lifestyle monthly box at this price point, and I feel like this box has so much potential, but they haven’t hit their stride yet. (And I’d also love for them to be a bit more consistent in curation so subscribers know what to expect each month.)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I believe so, but I recommend contacting their customer care to be sure.

  1. I placed my order July 28th, never received anything. There has been zero communication from CosmoBox and their customer service is unreachable, so I went ahead and disputed this transaction with my bank.

It’s like they just took the money and ran. I expected better from Cosmo.

  2. Okay, can someone please tell me how this is gonna work? I signed up for a 6-month sub starting with the May box – so after this, do I still have 3 boxes left, or will I receive only 2 because 2 months were combined? I’m so confused…

  3. I really liked this box. I’ll use everything except the sunscreen. That said, I finally still cancelled because I just didn’t want to deal with charges not being consistent and no way to check up on it on the website, which seems to have stopped updating in April.

I like the box more than I don’t, and I’m okay with a dud here and there because someone else might love the items, and I’m even okay with late shipping, so long as we don’t get recharged until the one we payed for is here. But I need to be able to follow along in my account and predict when I’m being charged, and this sub is just too all over the place in that area. I kind of regret cancelling already, but it’s just a little shady.

  4. When I first heard they were combining July and August I thought subscribers were charged for both months they were just going to ship one big box, but apparently that wasn’t the case. So with that said I think this is the usual disappointing Cosmo box not an extremely disappointing box. I thought you guys received these items for the cost of two boxes. LOL
I hope they get their stuff together. You’d think a company like Cosmo that’s been around this long would put these other sub boxes to shame. It’s like they outsourced this department and they know nothing about Cosmo.

  5. What this box needs is a Cosmobox x Amber Rose/Slutbox collaboration edition…

Seriously disappointed with this box’s curation, and the “2-for-1” box seems like a single box that they’re cheating subscribers with. The book seems like a promotional tie in – wasn’t it a free book available last year as a FFF add on?- and new ne of the other items scream “hero item.” I almost jumped on when they had the Sunday Riley; really glad I held back.

  6. I’m glad I saw this review. I think I’ll look at the Blessbox for the same price and more products are included.

  7. This will be the end of my 6month sub. with cosmobox. im really upset with them. i never got my march april or may box. i live in Oahu and i was giving them a break on the time for shipping. but nope. i got nothing. and when i tried to contact them about it, it was a dead end.

  8. So this was the end of my 6 month trial with them and I’m not renewing. The only months I liked were February and May. Mostly it’s bc of the delayed shipping issues and low overall value and use of items- I’d rather buy items i know I will like/use. I can see the beach theme this month, but as Liz pointed out it’s the end of August and I’m ready for fall too!

Also- my sunglasses were a different version than Liz’s. I didn’t realize they were sending out variations. Mine are aviators but with thin white temple designs.

  9. So glad I was finally able to cancel. Terrible customer service.

  10. Unpopular opinion, I like all this stuff and will use it. I got it with the 25 percent off coupon to make it a better value. I would be very unhappy if this was 2 boxes combined though.

  11. So glad I did not sign up for this or I would be so upset. I’m not sure who is in charge of this box over at cosmo but they need to find another job!

  12. What a bunch of junk. This magazine has been around forever and should be able to put out the most amazing box available. Come on Cosmo, either get it together or just stick with what you you are good at. You should be ashamed to put your name on these boxes.

    • I completely agree and am shocked that that Cosmo would want to tarnish their image by producing such a terrible and unreliable subscription box!?! They’re really alienating their fan/reader base, as I imagine that most people who subscribed are frequent readers of their magazine!! I’m really glad that I didn’t sub, as I was very tempted when this sub was first announced….I feel bad for the ones that did!

  13. “We hope you are having a great Summer. Our apologies for the delay with delivery but we’ve been working on a special offering that will consolidate the boxes for July and August. It will include a few extra valued items and ship out shortly. No worries, you will NOT be charged again for a box this month as your payments were already processed in July. However, if you have recently cancelled then this will be your last box.
Also, we are adding a few new exciting offerings to our subscription box program and will provide more details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, keep an eye out for a separate email with tracking information once the box is en route.
    The COSMOBox Team

Uhhhh what part of this is extra items and what part of this is valued?

    • It is supposed to be read as you get a few items they’ve added extra value too.

Also, I am adding up a value from the figures listed here as $75, not $94?

      • I think that, on the card, it says the sunglasses have a $35 value (I can barely make it out), but the review says $15.

      • That’s because Cosmo assigned $35 to the sunglasses.

      • When I added it up, I got $75 also. Not sure where the extra $19 comes from or if it is just a miscalculation.

      • I think there’s a typo, the sunglasses are valued at $35 and not $15. That being said, it is still an awful boc

      • Ahhhh ok!! Thank you! I was reading it like since it’s supposed to be two combined boxes there would literally be more items in the box and something relatively of value.

      • Sorry – typo on my part. The sunglasses have a listed value of $35, not $15. I’ve updated the post to show the correct price. Sorry again!

    • Right!!! I totally agree!

  14. I thought this was supposed to be basically a 2 for 1 box. So if you sign up in August, do you get all of this or just half this stuff?

    • I would suggest just not signing up for it at all.
