Collections by Joya August 2018 Review

As always, I was eager to open and explore my Collections by Joya box! Lately, Joya has been including this "thank you" card with some info about where to find them online. It's a nice little intro to the box.

This month's jewelry came tucked in two lightweight cotton pouches. I have a bunch of these drawstring bags collected from over the months, and I find they're good to have around for various reasons, including packing jewelry for travel and giving small items as gifts (including the jewelry I receive in this box, sometimes!).

The first pouch had both a pair of earrings and a necklace in it.

Teardrop Stud Earrings — Estimated Value $49.95

This type of post earring is a new concept to me—they sort of hook into your earring holes, but they still fit closely against your lobe. I love the moonstones! This is a classic case of a Joya pair being perfect both for everyday and dressing up. I couldn't find these guys on the Joya site, but here is another pair of teardrop stone earrings if you're interested in something kind of similar.

Isn't this delicate pair so lovely? I think I have them on backward, if there is such a thing—they'd probably look better with the larger teardrop closer to my face and the smaller ones extending outward. But really, it's up to the wearer!

Catalina Necklace — Retail Value $68.95

This is one of many labradorite pieces I've received from Joya in recent months. In fact, it's particularly similar to one I received in July's box with its short length, round pendant, and labradorite focal point—though I do like this one better due to its larger stone and dotted trim instead of rhinestones. Many of the labradorite pieces I've gotten are also offered in moonstone and lapis, both of which I prefer for their more distinct colors.

Here's how the necklace lays. It's nice, though not something I can see myself wearing too often. I think I'll save this one to gift!

In the second pouch came another pair of earrings—this time dangly, which is more my speed.

Chain Tassel Earrings — Estimated Value $68.95

As much as I can't get enough of fiber tassels, I'm not a big fan of chain fringe on my jewelry. The first pair I ever owned was the Morro Earrings from a Joya box a few months ago, and I've hung onto them and gone out on a limb to style them outside my comfort zone a few times. These ones are even a little less my speed, though, on the right person, they would look gorgeous.

This is another pair I was unable to find on the Joya site, so I'll link to two similar styles here and here.

Here's a quick shot of the gift wrap that comes in every month's box! It's a cardstock squeezebox that arrives with a pretty piece of raffia ribbon. I'll be using this box to regift either my pendant necklace or chain tassel earrings this month.

Verdict: Even though this wasn't my favorite month for Collections by Joya, it's still one of my top loved sub boxes due to its high quality, ethical production, and the fact that their jewelry is just so consistently beautiful! This time around I plan to keep one pair of earrings (the moonstone studs) and pass along the other two items. I wouldn't be happy if this were the case every month, but usually, the ratio is flipped and I keep more than I choose to gift.  This box costs $49.95, including free shipping. The three items in my box added up to an estimated $187.85, which was calculated using one retail value and two estimated prices.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order by 9/8 to get the September box!

Value Breakdown: Alternatively, at $49.95 for this box, you're paying approximately $16.65 per item. For such high-quality accessories with beautiful detailing, that's a fantastic deal.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.
