Bulu Box August 2018 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box. There was a lot of product literature this month.
Ceru-BeautiPlus (10 capsules) – Buy 120 capsules for $32.99 (found here for $28.99)
The primary benefit of this product seems to be that it contains collagen, which is documented to help with the appearance and health of skin, hair, and nails. Unfortunately, collagen is only available from animal sources and this also contains placenta powder (!) and gelatin, so I will be passing this along to someone else. This also contains vitamins A, C, and E, so you should be careful about taking it if you also take a regular multivitamin, since this is the retinol form of vitamin A, which is stored by the body and which can be toxic if you take too much. (The levels here are fine, the issue comes when you are also taking it from other sources.) For similar reasons, be careful about taking excess vitamin E. (Vitamin C is safe in high amounts as it is water-soluble.)

Sambucol Black Elderberry Gummies (2 gummies) – Buy 30 gummies for $12.18
These are vegetarian, which is a gummy trend I fully support. They are pretty tasty, too. These have antioxidants and are supposed to support immunity. On the other hand, I am not sure I would purchase these just because if you start buying individual gummies for every possible supplement you could want to take, you would end up eating like 100 calories of just gummies per day. (Hey, that could work for some people.) But these might be nice to keep around in cold and flu season.

Flyby Capsules (2 capsules x 2 packets) – Get 6 sample packets for $0 or buy 90 capsules for $35.99
I have to be honest, I don’t know what is up with getting hangover remedies from Bulu Box every month. It seems to me that having so many nights of excessive drinking that you would need to spring for a full-size bottle of this isn’t conducive to a healthy lifestyle or to weight loss (alcoholic beverages have calories…). Anyway, I don’t drink and this has milk thistle, which is found in a lot of liver support supplements but which you should avoid if you are also allergic to ragweed (I definitely am). This also has prickly pear, a source of natural vitamin E, B vitamins (typically found in energy support supplements but also they help metabolize sugars), among other ingredients commonly found in products like this. So if this is something you are interested in, you should do some price comparisons because a lot of these products seem to have overlapping ingredients so you might as well try to save some money.

Nana Flakes (6.2 g) – Buy 1 pound for $21.99
Although I find it odd that the packet is marketed as a remedy for diarrhea and that the product is recommended for tube feeding patients on the back of the packet, this is just dried banana flakes. So I put some in a smoothie (I often add powdered fruits and vegetables). If you have trouble keeping fresh bananas around (our freezer is full of brown bananas that may one day become banana bread – or not) and want some added potassium in your diet, this could be useful.

Nutri Snacks Sugar Free Passion Fruit and Chia Cookies (1.7 oz) – Buy 6 boxes of 8 cookies for $40.24
My husband and I split these and we have decided, unfortunately, that we are not fans. These are crispy and have a lot of fiber, and they are sugar-free, so they could work if you are trying to minimize sugar intake. These are sweetened with stevia and I decided that I do strongly prefer the flavor of stevia in foods over the flavor of stevia in beverages. In general, though, we just didn’t think the passion fruit flavor works in cookie form.

Meat-Snx Crispy Protein Bites (chicken, 1.9 oz) – Buy 8 packages for $25.50 (found here for $23.92)
Oh my. I don’t even know where to begin. First off, my husband, who is my usual go-to for non-vegetarian items, wasn’t willing to try this. He said “chicken protein isolate,” which is the first ingredient, reminded him of the food my dog Nyx eats (which is, properly, hydrolyzed chicken protein, so it’s similar but not the same). I have dropped it off on the free snacks table at work, where it is still sitting, but the office is pretty empty today so maybe it will get a taker later in the week? This actually does have a lot of fiber and about an average amount of sodium for a savory packaged snack, and of course, it is high in protein and has some calcium as well, so nutritionally it is not bad. If you subscribe to this box and received this item and tried it out, I would love to hear your opinion of it.
(Please note: the Bulu Box description of this item is incorrect, these are not 100% chicken meat sticks, but rather a flavored composite with a mix of protein sources.)
Verdict: This month’s Bulu Box had six samples, so have an average cost of $1.67 each. Of course, if you used a coupon when you signed up for your subscription, the cost would be lower for you. I’d say this assortment was representative of what you could receive in a given month from this subscription, with the caveat that you cannot expect the contents of any given box to conform to a particular set of dietary restrictions.
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, August would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB799 to get your subscription at $7.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $9.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 6 items in the box has an average cost of $1.67.
