Brown Sugar August 2018 “Glow-Up Edition” Review
Included in the box is a mini magazine with various articles for my reading enjoyment.
Izzy & Liv® T-Shirt– Listed Value $ 28.00
Izzy & Liv t-shirts are a staple in their boxes, and their tees always reflect their theme. This month’s tee is grey, 90% cotton, 10% polyester, and has “Hair Done Nails Done Everything Done” on the front. The phrase is from Drake’s song “Fancy.” I always look forward to their tees and wear them often. Their tees from previous boxes can be found here for purchase.
Izzy & Liv® Beauty/Matte Lipstick Trio – Listed Value $22.00
The trio of matte lipsticks is from Izzy & Liv’s™ Beauty Collection. They sent their lipglosses and nail polishes that are from their beauty collection in past boxes and now sold on their website type in matte lipgloss or nail polishes. I didn’t find the matte lipstick on their website; it may come to their online store soon. I received three matte lipsticks in the colors, “Sashay Shante,” “U Betta Werk,” and “After Party.” The color “After Party” is my favorite, the color lasted most of the day, it seemed semi-matte to me compared to other matte lipsticks I own, and the deep burgundy color is rich and bold, perfect to ease out of summer and into fall. The other two colors, “U Betta Werk,” and “Sashay Shante,” weren’t my shade preference.
Here are the swatches of color from top to bottom, “After Party” (my favorite and my go-to for the last two days), “Sashay Shante,” and “U Betta Werk.”
Izzy & Liv® Cat-Eye Sunglasses –Listed Value $13.00
These sunglasses remind me of my mom and a pair of similar cat-eye glasses she once owned. These sunglasses are out of my comfort zone, but once on, I liked the looked. Subscribers received these sunglasses in black or red.
Here’s a closer look at the side view of the sunglasses and Izzy & Liv® inscribed on the temple of the glasses.
Rose Gold Body Oil, 2oz – Estimated Value $7.50 (Buy a 4 oz. bottle for $15.00)
This body oil is lightly scented and consists of organic oils, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and vitamin E, rose, frankincense and patchouli essential oils. I’m slowly getting used to using body oils, thanks to subscription boxes. This body oil left my skin soft.
From A. Joy Signature Products:
Body oils enhance the quality of the skin because they soak quickly and deeply into skin leaving it moisturized all day long. Unlike lotion, no water is added and will not wear off as quickly.
Rose oil can be used as a natural perfume, and it’s thought to act as an aphrodisiac. The nurturing, mothering essential oil brings feelings of comfort. Rose oil can uplift your spirits and reduce feelings of loneliness and grief. The blooming floral fragrance brings about feelings of love, care, and comfort while providing harmony and balance to the body and mind. Rose Essential Oil is good for dry, sensitive, or mature skin types.
This body oil will give your skin an extra boost that will surely have you glowing from head to toe. All of the oils are organic, free of chemicals and extracted from roots, fruits, flowers, and leaves. Each essential oil added to the body oil was chosen for its unique skin nourishing properties. The scent is absolutely amazing and will linger long after applying.
Selfie Stick– Listed Value $16.00
I received a red selfie stick that has “Izzy & Liv®” “Culture. Confidence. Soul.™ and “Own it, Werk it” inscribed on the front. Selfies are still popular, and this can not only capture your selfies but those last minute end of summer getaway shots that you want to remember. Unfortunately, my iPhone 7S isn’t adaptable with this selfie stick so, I will pass on to a friend or family member.
Here’s a look at the selfie stick and the cord you plug into your phone.
Pop Socket – Listed Value $5.00
This pop-socket is not like the original pop socket I own and looks cheaply made but the signature Brown Sugar Girl is displayed, which I love. The pop socket has a collapsible grip and a stand for my phone for those moments when I’m watching my favorite show on Hulu.
Rose Gold Square With Crystals Phone Mirror – Retail Value $9.99
This rose gold square mirror with crystals surrounding it intends to fit on the back of my phone or phone case. I had a mirror on my old phone, and it was handy to have for touch-ups. The backing intends to apply easily, it peels and sticks to my device plus it intends to adhere tightly to my phone and is removable with no residue. The mirror measures at 2”L x 2”W. There are many accessories for your phone, and this box sent three, and now I’m all set.
Wooden Comb – Listed Value $12.00
This wooden comb has “I Love My Hair” on the handle. It’s nice to receive hair tools instead of hair products which I get inundated with from subscription boxes. This will come in handy when I’m taking out my protective style.
Verdict: This month’s box has a value of $113.49 – an incredible deal for $39.95 a month plus shipping. This month’s Brown Sugar Box helps me to get selfie-ready with my phone mirror, lipstick, cat-eye sunglasses and my cute t-shirt. I appreciate a subscription box that puts thought into their box curation and to have a theme with products that match it. The subscription price is on par with other lifestyle boxes, and you receive at least 6-7 items monthly. Brown Sugar Box by Izzie & Liv is one of my favorite WOC beauty/lifestyle boxes!
