Sweet Sparkle May 2018 Review

This month includes bold colors to create a bold and sparkly look. Let’s see what they included:

Each month, an info card is included with an intro to the theme and the product names and retail values. This month’s theme is “Mystic Mermaid”.

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder in Resonance, 2.35g

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder in Resonance, 2.35g - Estimated Value $15

Wow, this is pink! This fine powder is very pigmented and bright pink with a blue iridescent shimmer. I’m pleasantly surprised at how easily it blends and layers without fallout. I like that this pink looks bright and fun on my eyes. Some other pink shadows just make me look like my eyes are irritated. Bellapierre has a bunch of different shades if you like bold powders and they can be used for anything, like eyeliner, nail polish, or tinted mascara.

J. Cat Beauty Sparkling Powder in Mystic Wave, 4g

J. Cat Beauty Sparkling Powder in Mystic Wave, 4g - Retail Value $3.49

Since we always need glitter to be a mermaid, Sweet Sparkle included this super bright teal. It’s loose, chunky glitter so you’ll need a glitter glue to get the best results. I’m not really a face glitter person but I can see this being great for adding to an accent nail. The jar is a little messy and glitter gets everywhere when I open it, so, be prepared.

Doucce Maxlash Volumizer Mascara in Black, 11.5ml/.39oz - Retail Value $22

This mascara reminds me of Doucce’s Punk Volumizer Mascara. It gives me major volume while still being fluttery. The black is carbon black which ads to the lush effect. I’m impressed with how well it holds up even in high humidity without flakes or smudging. Doucce knows how to make a mascara.

L.A. Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Cookie Dough, .1oz/3ml

L.A. Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Cookie Dough, .1oz/3ml - Retail Value $14

I really like this cool-toned, mauve shade and think it compliments the Mystic Mermaid look well. But, the formula is not great for my already dry lips since it is so matte. I get that dreaded cracky, cakey look instantly. This does last for a long time without transferring though and needs an oil-based makeup remover to get it off.

E.L.F. Foundation Brush - Retail Value $2

Ok, so I like some of E.L.F.’s brushes, but this isn’t one of them. It doesn’t apply my tinted moisturizer or foundation nearly as well as using my fingertips and leaves a streaky finish that I have to go back and blend in. I think I’ll end up using this as a mask application brush.

Swatches of the makeup (left to right): J. Cat Sparkling Powder, Bellapierre Shimmer Powder, and L.A. Splash Liquid Lipstick.

Here is my interpretation of “Mystic Mermaid”. While this isn’t something I’d rock normally, it was really fun for the day. I didn’t have any glitter glue, so I tried to use setting spray unsuccessfully. You can see that the glitter just fell onto my cheeks. John was a little weary for good reason. Just being around me, he ended up wearing it too.

Look at the volume the mascara gave me!

Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Mystic Mermaid” box has a value of $56.49 with free shipping. This is the most playful of curated looks I’ve received from Sweet Sparkle and I appreciated how different the items are from past boxes. The mascara and shimmer powder are winners and I’ll be using them in other makeup looks. I’m thinking the glitter will be better suited for my manicures than my eyes but will certainly get used. This isn’t the biggest value box but, as always, all of the items are full-sized and coordinated to create an entire look. I’m looking forward to more fun looks from Sweet Sparkle!

I love how you did your eyes!!! You always look beautiful and the pop of color is stunning! With that make up brush, I was thinking too that it would make a good facemask brush lol

I have that ELF brush and I use it for mask applications! Hate it for anything else but it is great for masking!

I use the not so great flat brushes like that for applying face masks!! SOO much easier and no waste really that way vs. scooping up a bunch and smoothing.
