Sephora Favorites Clean Beauty Kit Review
boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil, 1.7 oz – Retail Value $10
I love this product—it is one that I already buy and use regularly! It is a great makeup remover that also cleanses your skin, and while it cleans my face well even when I am wearing a full face of makeup it also helps with how oily my skin can be. Unfortunately, the lid became a bit unsecured during transit. Luckily the product wasn’t a total loss, but it did make some of the other products a bit oily. We reached out to Sephora, and while normally they would immediately send out a new kit this was already sold out. Sephora instead processed a refund, which I think is stellar customer service!
Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer, 0.33 oz – Estimated Value $10.09 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $52)
This was a new brand to me and I really enjoyed trying a moisturizer that is specifically for redness and uneven texture. I enjoyed the water-gel consistency because it sank into my skin quickly without leaving me oily while still leaving my skin hydrated. I haven’t seen too much of a difference in my redness, but I will keep using this to see if it is something I want to purchase the full-size version.
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask, 1 oz – Retail Value $9
I have used Briogeo before thanks to both Boxycharm and Pop Sugar, and I am just not that impressed with it. It never provides the deep condition my curly hair needs when I use a hair mask, and it is almost like a regular conditioner for me. I do know that people with thinner hair have had great results with this, so while it isn’t for me it is still a good product to include.
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm With Echinacea GreenEnvy™, 0.40 oz – Estimated Value $5.18 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $22)
I love this stuff—I have used it before and am very close to buying the full-size version. You take some of the product that has a thick, gel-like consistently and rub it into your face to break down makeup before wiping your face with a warm towel. This takes care of all of my makeup (even mascara), is super gentle, and it leaves my face feeling clean as well. When I went in and wiped my face with a cotton pad and some toner there was no makeup picked up at all.
Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Crème, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $7.06 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $48)
I loved how light this moisturizer was—It really felt like I was applying a small bit of cloud to my face. There wasn’t any strong scent, which was a plus because most products that contain rose in some way have a rose scent. This left my skin with a dewy finish and it actually helped to calm my redness, which always wins major bonus points from me.
Kopari Coconut Melt, 2.5 oz – Retail Value $18
When I first tried this coconut oil way back when in a Birchbox Discovery Kit, I thought it was great coconut oil but I didn’t understand the price. Now I have been using it consistently and I kind of love it—so much so that when Sephora had the big container on their weekly wow for half off, I jumped at buying it. This coconut oil is just so great for multiple things. I have used it to remove stubborn eye makeup, as a lip balm, as a leave-in conditioner for my hair, as a body lotion in spots I needed extra hydration, and mixed with some tea tree oil on my scalp. I also will add about a thimble-full amount to running water when taking a bath and the bath water gets this lovely thicker consistency that is so hydrating (and fun to play with). I am super happy to have gotten this size in this kit because this is a great travel size version to take with you on the go.
KORA Organics Noni Glow Face Oil, 0.33 oz – Estimated Value $22.22 (Buy the 1.01 oz version for $68)
I never do the math on what a sample is worth until after I use it, and now I am sitting here realizing I have been liberally applying a face oil akin to liquid gold in price! I had no idea this little jar contains over $20 in product! Because I have oily skin I only use face oils at night before I go to bed, and I have been using this as part of my nightly routine. I really do think this helps to provide my skin with a bit of a natural glow after a good night’s rest, but I don’t think the results I have experienced justify the price tag. That’s the beauty of kits like these—trying sample I definitely wouldn’t buy the full-size version of (and occasionally falling in love with products I cannot afford).
REN Clean Skincare Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, 0.34 oz – Estimated Value $7.60 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $38)
This mask was a life-saver for me! I recently had one of the worst cystic acne breakouts I have had in months on my chin. There were four of them, all clustered in the same exact spot (I could feel them developing, and I thought it was just one pimple—I woke up the next day to four!) and they HURT. They were red, angry, inflamed, and basically, I could do nothing to soothe them. Even my usual go-to of a hot compress just made them madder. When I applied this mask it instantly provided relief to the throbbing pain, and when I (gently) removed the mask they looked less red. I imagine this would also be an awesome mask after a sunburn or if you used a skincare product that didn't agree with your skin. I will be saving this sample to use as a spot treatment in the future because this really helped!
Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $12.35 (buy the 1.7 oz version for $42)
I love the masks I have tried from Tata Harper, but this is the first cleanser I have tried from the brand. I have to say I am not impressed with the way this sample was packaged—I know the green jars look super luxe with the gold details, but getting the liquid cleanser out was awkward. That being said, I liked how this was a gentle exfoliant on my face while also cleansing it—it was a great 2-in-1 product for me. I did feel like my face looked a touch brighter after using, so I can only imagine the results I would see with consistent uses.
Tatcha The Deep Cleanse, 0.85 oz – Estimated Value $6.46 (buy the 5 oz version for $38)
Mmmm, I love Tatcha. It is a brand I have never owned a full-size product of, but I know of their reputation in the skincare game and have loved all of their samples I have tried. This was my first time trying The Deep Cleanse and I was surprised by how thick it was coming out of the container! This really did give my skin a deep cleanse and my face felt a little tight after using it, but that was easily remedied by my regular skin routine of serums and moisturizers. This is one product that I will be seriously contemplating purchasing when my current cleanser is gone because I really liked how clean my skin was—I think the deep clean made it more receptive to the products I followed up with.
Youth To The People Superfood Firm and Brighten Vitamin C Serum, 0.27 oz – Estimated Value $16.74 (buy the 1 oz version for $62)
High-five to another super pricey skincare sample! I have liked most of the Youth To The People samples I have tried, but I didn't really see any noticeable results with this serum. Considering the price tag, if I cant get results from a decent sized sample I definitely won’t be looking into purchasing the full-size version. Of course, not every product will work for my skin, and I do appreciate that this didn’t exacerbate any of my redness and it sank in quickly when I pressed it into my face.
The Verdict: Sephora Favorites kits are usually a great deal, but this one, in particular, was absolutely stellar. This was an awesome mix of products I have tried and loved and products that were brand new to me, and I am seriously contemplating buying the full-size version of more than one of the products included. The value is fantastic too- I calculated a value of $124.70, which is absolutely awesome for a kit that cost $44. I know this is no longer available for purchase online, but I definitely recommend calling your local Sephora to see if the store has any of these kits in stock—the next time I make my way to the mall I am going to try and buy a second one!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no. But I recommend calling your local store to see if they still have some in stock!
