Lola Beauty Box May 2018 Review

This month features makeup and body care. Let’s check it out:

Each box comes with a card detailing the brands and items included along with the prices and websites for each. This month’s theme is “Bloom Lola Bloom”.

Tarte Cosmetics Limited Edition Golden Day Dreams Eye & Cheek Palette -

Tarte Cosmetics Limited Edition Golden Day Dreams Eye & Cheek Palette - Retail Value $18 (found here for $10)

What a nice little palette! The first thing I notice is how slim it is – perfect for packing in a makeup bag. There are 8 eyeshadow shades – 5 matte and 3 shimmer – and 1 blush shade. I love that everything needed for a full eye look is here, including a base and crease shade. The darker shades can be used as liners as well as shadows. Tarte’s shadows are always so buttery and easy to blend. The blush is a pretty warm pink that should be suitable for many skin tones.

Stiks Cosmetiks Lipstik in Code Red, 3g

Stiks Cosmetiks Lipstik in Code Red, 3g - Retail Value $14

I’m absolutely loving this shade of red. It has a satin finish and rich, opaque color. It feels great on and, though it transfers to my coffee cup, it lasts until lunch. The packaging is where it loses me. This company has a select number of products and they all are in this “stik” form. You can use them as lipstick, blush, or eyeshadow (yes, even this red). The angle is supposed to help with achieving a precise application but I found it a little difficult to work with. The biggest problem was that if you don’t wind this “stik” all the way down before closing, you’ll shave the top off when closing the lid. So, good product, slight learning curve.

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Cream Shadow Stick in Cove, .05oz/1.30g - Retail Value $22

I’m not really sure what to think about this product. The stick style is easy to apply and blend in with my fingertips for no-makeup, makeup days. But, it is so close to my skin tone that I can’t even tell it’s there. The shade is a golden-pink and has the slightest shimmer. I bet it would look beautiful on deeper skin tones!

Lauren B Beauty Nourishing Hand Cream, 2oz/60ml

Lauren B Beauty Nourishing Hand Cream, 2oz/60ml - Retail Value $24

I love hand creams! I have eczema (and therefore, super dry hands) so I keep tubes of it everywhere. This one feels really nice and non-greasy once rubbed in but the smell is a bit too strong for me. It smells nice, is very floral, and lingers for several hours. I’ll probably have to pass this on to a friend but if you like strong (and pretty) fragrances, this may be a good cream to try.

Crown Brush C490 Duo Fiber Blush/Blender Brush - Retail Value $9

I always appreciate new brushes – mine tend to disappear when my friends come over. This dual-ended, duo fiber has an end for applying powder, cream, or liquids and an end for blending. These bristles are a mix of natural sable hairs and synthetic bristles. Though this is a nice brush, I probably won’t get much use out of it since I prefer fluffier brushes to apply product.

Swatches of the products (left to right): lipstick, shadow stick, shadow stick blended.

Here’s a look using the makeup products in the box. I applied the blush from the palette to my cheeks and swiped on one (yes, just one) coat of the red lipstick. For my eyes, I applied Toasted Marshmallow to my whole lid, then worked Cookie Swap in as my transition shade. I applied Chestnuts Roasting to the center of my lid and blended out into a little Dipped In Chocolate on the outer corner. Then I dabbed Spiked Cider onto the center of my lid with my fingertip. Lastly, I applied the Juice Shadow Stick to the inner corners of my eye to brighten them. I feel really good in this look and would wear it again any day.

The Verdict: I’m pretty happy with Lola Beauty Box again this month! I love the palette and the lipstick, though I’m a little clumsy with the packaging. The hand cream will get passed on to a friend, but overall, all of the products were of great quality. This box has a value of $87 and includes all full-sized products which meets their $70 value promise.
