Now on to the items!

Birchbox Sample Choice July 2018 makeup remover wipes

Vasanti Makeup Magic Wipes, 10 sheets - Estimated Value $4 (buy 30 wipes for $12)

I use makeup remover wipes almost every day, so I chose these from the sample choice options this month. They work well, but they are really small. Even if they were double the size I'd still consider them a small face cloth. I thought maybe because they're a sample pack they may be smaller but the label says the same size for the full-size pack of 30 as well. Like I said, they worked well, but I didn't feel like I had enough to get my face makeup and all of my eye makeup off well enough with just one wipe. These will get used up, though.

Birchbox Sample Choice July 2018 Dr Jart

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Ultimate Hydro Gel, .34 fl oz - Estimated Value $7.80 (buy a 1.7 oz. jar for $39)

This moisturizer is definitely a gel texture. When I put it on, it kind of melts into a lightweight and thinner consistency. I think it hydrates well for a gel and would work well for a daytime moisturizer. I have dry skin, though, and need a little more hydration for night time.

Birchbox Sample Choice July 2018 Amika

Amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Balm, .67 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (buy a 6.7 oz. bottle for $25)

My hair is fine and very stick-straight, so I rarely need a smoothing or de-frizzing balm. I will say, though, that this product smells fantastic (typical for Amika) and made my hair extra soft!

Birchbox Sample Choice July 2018 Benefit

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer, 3 ml - Estimated Value $4.13 (buy a 22ml bottle for $31)

I think POREfessional may be the most common Benefit product to see in a subscription box. It's definitely one of their classic best-sellers, though! This primer does a great job of smoothing your skin and reducing the look of pores.

Birchbox Sample Choice July 2018 mascara

Well People Expressionist Mascara – Estimated Value $10

This mascara is an all-natural formula, and I was happy with how dark-black the pigmentation was! My favorite part of this mascara is the brush because it's a silicone with great design for separation. It lengthens a little, but I didn't get a whole lot and not much volume to speak of. This is a really good natural mascara for anyone with allergies or sensitive eyes!

Here, I'm wearing the mascara and the primer. The mascara didn't add any drama but I really liked the separation and pigmentation it offered.

Verdict: This was an alright Birchbox for me this month. I didn't make any new discoveries I love, but I did try some new things that I haven't before. The estimated value total adds up to $28.43, which isn't the best I've ever gotten from Birchbox but I'm happy with it for a $10 discovery box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, as of today your first box will be the August box, and items are chosen for you based on your profile and preferences. (Tip: Check the image on the sign-up page. Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

birchbox let me down every month for the last 3—-very small samples, not enough to get a good trial of each product. i am very disappointed—considering canceling, but hope springs eternal.

Is there still an option to buy the monthly curated box separately? If I choose a sample choice for August can I also get the curated box?

Luna

Yes, they typically have the curated box for sale in their shop. I don’t know if the August box is available for purchase yet though.

FYI the full size wipes are supposed to be larger but not much. FS = 150 mm x 100 mm

This sample = 100 mm x 75 mm

I also got these wipes, liked them but didn’t like how small they were either. And FS doesn’t seem much larger either.

I chose the Amika balm for my sample this month, and I really like it. It smoothed my hair, but didn’t leave it heavy or weighed down. I have been surprised at how much I like Birchbox. I didn’t expect much for $10 but I am happy with every box I get. The August box looks good to me too. I think it’s a great sub if you are looking for something inexpensive.

Thanks for the review. I’ve been curious about the amika product. It sounds like it might work for my wavy, thick, and somewhat frizzy hair. I use face wipes every day but haven’t found any that compare to my fav Nuface wipes.

Can the Nuface wipes be used to remove makeup, or are they best to use on a makeup free face? Just asking because I’ve always given those away when I’ve received them since I wasn’t sure if they were decent makeup remover wipes (makeup removal is the only time I use a face wipe).

Yes, the Nuface wipes are great for makeup removal. I use them almost every night to remove my makeup including eye makeup. They’re large and the exfoliating side feels amazing. They’re non-drying or irritating for my combination skin. I know wipes are kinda the “lazy” way to wash your face but I’ve used these nightly for over a year and never had problems with breakouts. The only negative is they are a bit pricey.

I love NuFace as well. Skyn Iceland and Koh Gen Do make great cleansing wipes imo.

I was shocked how small the make up wipes package was, but I haven’t it used yet. Good to know I’ll need two 😉
