Unique Vintage May 2018 Review
You never quite know what you’re going to get with this subscription. It could be a party dress or one that you could wear to work. Let’s see what I got this month:
Unique Vintage 1950s Style Black and Striped Floral Chiffon De Carlo Swing Dress – Retail Value $112
First off, this is a really cute style and it has a retail value that makes the subscription a great deal this month. I don’t usually wear black as it makes me look too Goth, but this black is interspersed with enough color that it’s not a problem with this dress.
However, the chiffon is lined with a material that is not very forgiving. I have discussed this before with respect to Unique Vintage, but my hips and bust are in their XS range, while my waist is in their medium range. (I DO NOT have that classic hourglass figure.) I compromise and get a size small because the top of a medium dress would be way too big for me, and a fitted style would have hips that were also too big, were I to go with a medium. A lot of their fabric is slightly stretchy and perfectly comfortable around the midsection. But sometimes, the small waist is really too small for me, and this is one of those times. The lining for the chiffon has absolutely no give at all and I could barely get this zipped, nor could I lift my arms once it was zipped over my ribcage (my husband had to help me get this on).
Verdict: The dress I received has a retail price of $112, which is a great value. The style is also really cute and great for summer office wear. Unfortunately, the fit of this dress was just wrong for my body type. I could get it on, but I was really uncomfortable around the midsection while we were taking these photos. I am hanging on to it for now because I did gain a few pounds after my hysterectomy last year, and I am going to see how it fits when I lose them again, which is something I am working on right now. Even an extra half inch around the midsection would probably be enough to make this work.
