The Zakka Kit May 2018 Review
The first thing you see when you open the box is the info card for the month and theme which is "Kokeshi". Traditional Kokeshi Dolls are handcrafted and "the perfect symbol of Japan's vintage kawaii style".
The reverse side has all of the month's items listed out with a short description. This month has a total listed value of $25.50+ USD.
Kokeshi Postcard
Out of two possible designs, I received this postcard with a couple of kokeshi dolls on the front with what looks like space to write even though this is the decorative side of the postcard. Instead of sending it out, you can write a lovely quote and post it on your cork board or decorate with the rest of the kokeshi goodies.
Kokeshi Washi Stickers
How cute are these little paper stickers featuring kokeshi dolls in reds, blues, and greens? Each one is 1 inch high and has a smile on their face. You get 25 stickers in all so there is plenty to go around.
Kokeshi Stamp Stickers x4
If those stickers are too small, here are four large 2.5-inch high stamp stickers that are also paper and have quite a stunning artistic look. They all have the same design but two have a grey border and two have a washed dark blue border with different colors in the image. It says "Ex Libris" at the top which I didn't know until googling is used as an inscription on a bookplate to denote the owner. Sounds like these large stickers should be used as such!
Kokeshi Memo Pad
I've received a similar notepad in the past but with different Japanese iconography on it. Here is a 4-inch square memo pad that has four different page designs that feature... you guessed it: kokeshi! The front is embossed and rather minimal and classy. This thick little pad will get me through many notes and lists!
Kokeshi Washi Tape
I would not expect this collection to not include a washi tape, so here is a baby blue roll with kokeshi dolls scattered about wearing all different patterned "clothes". This roll is rather large and can be used to hang up a photo or print, seal an envelope, or decorate your planner!
Kokeshi Rubber Stamp
The next kokeshi item is a small rubber stamp. The handle allows for easy gripping while in use and the doll is only a half inch tall so this can be used in the smallest of places!
Color Kiss Ink Pad in Red
They've thankfully included a stamp pad to use with the stamp with red ink. Yay!
Here it is in action. 🙂
Verdict: This month's Zakka Kit theme was Kokeshi and boy did they ever deliver. Each unique item featured the traditional Japanese doll in a different way. I think the stamp stickers are my favorite this month because of their beautiful design!
