The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a monthly subscription that offers bath and body products centered on a new theme each month. Each month FCS will create new products to fit that theme, and then will offer up the extended collection for sale later in the month.

The FCS boxes also got a makeover! I am loving the metallic gold against the sky blue.

Fortune Cookie Soap “80's” June 2018 Review

This box comes with a mini handbook detailing the products, how to use it, the unique scent, and ingredients. New to the handbook is pricing details for each item! One thing of note — I have purchased from the FCS website several times, and all of the listed prices match up with what I have seen available for sale once the collection becomes available.

Billie Jean Perfume Oil, .2 oz - Listed Retail Value $7.99

This is the second perfume oil I’ve tried from Fortune Cookie Soap, and the first one became one of my favorite perfumes of all time. Billie Jean is a mix of mandarin zest, Birchwood, and vanilla, and I really liked the way it smelled both on the roller and once it settled into my skin as well. This is a fun scent that I will enjoy using, but it’s not one I will feel the need to replace once this runs out.

Danger Zone It’s a Doodie! Toilet Spray, 2.3 oz

Danger Zone It’s a Doodie! Toilet Spray, 2.3 oz - Listed Retail Value $9.99

This product works by forming a scent layer on top of the water and forms and barrier that keeps unpleasant smells from permeating your bathroom. One thing I really appreciated is that, in use, this smells just like the peach melba, sugar musk, and black cherry it was supposed to be, rather than that scent combined with something more unpleasant. This also did its job very well, which is something I think anyone will appreciate. I have now reviewed both this and Poo-purri, and I think the FCS one does a better job (with a more fun scent).

Permed & Teased Argan Hair Shine Serum, .5 oz  - Listed Retail Value $8.99

My curly hair absolutely LOVES this Argan oil! I applied it to damp hair by rubbing my fingers through my curls and scrunching up the ends, and my curls soaked it in and felt and looked amazing after. When I first was using this I could really smell the sweet pea and nectarine scent, however that changed once the oil was distributed through my hair— the scent was delicate and lovely! I’m going to need to get my hands on more of this.

Life is Delicious Lip Scrub, .6 oz

Life is Delicious Lip Scrub, .6 oz - Listed Retail Value $9.99

I have used a lot of good lip scrubs in my life— previous favorites include MAC, Lush, and Sarah Happ. I believe this lip scrub, however, is the best one I have ever used. It has the perfect consistency of not being too oily while also not being too dry, and it removes all of the dead skin off my lips leaving my lips baby soft underneath. This scrub followed by my Laneige lip sleeping mask at night has my lips feeling amazing well into the next day, and this is a really perfect scrub before applying a liquid lipstick. Plus, the strawberry flavor goes great with the pure cane sugar in this scrub that makes my lips taste delicious.

Mixtape Glow Lotion, 6.2 oz - Listed Retail Value $14.99

This lotion provides a faint hint of shimmer that really just makes your legs look a tiny bit better without looking like a vampire. I adore the watermelon and coconut scent, and this absorbed quickly into my skin and left me feeling hydrated but not greasy. This will be my go-to lotion on my legs when I am wearing dresses and shorts this summer!

FCS Vice Cooling Aloe Mist, 5.2 oz

FCS Vice Cooling Aloe Mist, 5.2 oz - Listed Retail Value $9.99

This tropical-scented aloe gel is cooling as soon as you apply it, which makes it feel heavenly when you come inside after being out in the heat and humidity. I also used this as an after-shave spray because I know aloe is great for that, and my legs felt smooth and silky without being weighed down by a thicker lotion. I recommend storing this in the fridge for maximum refreshness!

Totally Rad Facial Cleansing Oil, 2.2 oz - Listed Retail Value $16.99

Scented cleansers are something I have mixed feelings about— if the scent is from the ingredients that are designed for your skin and smell great, awesome! If it's fragrance just for fragrance's sake it's not really my jam. However, I think Fortune Cookie Soap does a good job of making a functional product that just so happens to smell nice. This cleansing oil is really gentle and when I was done using it my skin felt both clean and hydrated (shout-out to that sunflower seed oil). The scent of pears, sugar, and grapefruit made for a faint fruity scent that didn't make me feel like I was rubbing perfume into my face, so props for that.

The Verdict: I love the creativity you see in Fortune Cookie Soap Box and this month the packaging blew me away—it is crazy that each month we get a new collection with gorgeous labels and new scents, and the new and beautiful shipping box is nice too! I thought this box was a knockout—everything will be used without feeling like any one product is overdone. I don’t say this often, but if you need a lip scrub the one in this box is the one you need to buy! Value-wise, the listed retail value is $78.93, which I think is awesome for a box that costs $34.95 ($28 a month + $6.95 shipping).

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up today your first box will be the August box (which is Goblin King themed!)

This was my first FCS box and I absolutely loved everything in it! I have allergy problems with a lot of fragrances in general, but nothing in here irritated me, nothing too strong or too flowery. The hair oil did wonders for my frizzies (just don;t use too much!) I put the GCS Vice in the fridge and it is has been very refreshing during this mini heatwave we’re having.

I loved the theme. I was a partying girl for the first half of the 80’s.

I hope next month’s box is not going to be weird.. I really can’t imagine what they’re going to create in terms of bath and skin products based on David Bowie’s character from a movie over 30 years ago.
And we just had Sci-Fi with the Stars Wars box last month. So much not my thing.

Thanks! Still not sure I’m in the target demographic, LOL, but I’m sure the labels are secondary to the actual products and uses. :).

Hi Mandy!
The July theme is Jurassic park!

I received my box on Saturday and I absolutely LOVED everything that was included as well….the theme and scents are always AMAZING!! I haven’t tried the cleansing oil yet and was wondering if it left an oily residue on your skin after using?? As someone who already has to deal with oily skin and with the crazy heat and humidity lately I don’t want to risk feeling more like an oil slick than I already do! Also, great idea on using the cooling aloe mist as an after shave on legs…I’ll try that tonight!! Great review, as always!!

Kris,
I have mature skin which tends to be dry, and I only use a cleansing oil in the P.M.
I do the double cleansing routine ( when I’m wearing makeup) and this is when I go to the facial oil cleansers. Here’s maybe a suggestion based on the Korean double cleanse method, which is meant to be extremely gentle but not greasy-feeling for all skin types.

Since it is almost summer, you might want to try the double cleanse method at night only and see how it works for you.
I don’t know how familiar anyone is with the 2 step cleansing method so here’s how it’s done:
First, the oil cleanser is sprayed onto a cotton ball or cotton round or into the hands and patted well into the face, avoiding the eyes. Then a thorough tepid water rinse is done. Traditionally, this is a splash rinse from a small basin, but I use a soft facial washcloth to make sure I get the oil off well.
Follow the oil cleanse with your usual soapy mild cleanser and a final thorough rinse. I always use a mild toner or facial mist after my face is dried just because that’s the next step in the Korean method of night skin care. Your light treatment products come next, depending on your preference.
With oily skin, it’s good to try this at night and see how your face reacts the next AM. If it’s greasy, then this might be a product you’d want to save for the cooler months.

I’d never spray this product directly on my face and actually have never seen a facial cleansing oil packaged in a spray before now, although there may be a reason for the packaging that I haven’t read about yet.. My box arrived this afternoon. Still, I will be spraying it onto a cotton ball or clean hands to avoid my eyes.

Mandy,
Thank you SO VERY much for your very helpful reply! I’m definitely going to give your suggestions a try this evening!! Again, thank you so much.

A.M.

I love cleaning oils & this one was great! Personally, I use it as step one in my skincare routine, mornings & nights. I apply a small amount (dime size) to my hand , then apply directly to my DRY face & neck. Even over my eyelids/ eye area. After, I gently wipe it off with a rung out, warm washcloth. Then I use a gentle cleanser. My skin is sooo much happier since I integrated this step into my skincare routine.
Just my experience- hope you enjoy it! 🙂

A.M.,
Thank you so much for your helpful reply! My goal is to finally focus on taking care of my skin instead of just washing it and hoping for the best!! I will definitely be trying this oil Cleanser tonight with the 2 step cleansing method that you and Mandy suggested!
