Winc May 2018 Review

When you sign up to join Winc, you take a short, fun “palate profile” quiz that helps determine your taste in wine. Based on your answers, Winc makes bottle recommendations for you every month. You can go along with their recommendations or choose your own bottles from their regularly changing selection (or skip the month completely).

The bottles come shipped in an upright cardboard box that has formed pieces to secure them in place. This also helps keep the bottles from bumping into one another in transport. The box is pretty dang sturdy and has a solid handle that  makes it easy to carry! This box is a real party on the go!

Hello my pretties, glad you got in safely!

I am a big fan of rosé when I do drink wines. Especially this time of year, it is so light and fruity. Winc provides this recipe for a fancy cocktail that includes their Summer Wine. Sounds so yummy and refreshing! They had me sold at rosemary!

Winc also included this coupon for free coffee! The retail value is $14.95, you just pay the $1 for shipping! I am not much of a coffee fan, but I know plenty of people that are!

This Graze coupon is definitely more up my speed! I try to eat less processed foods and sugary treats, so this box intrigues me. And at the first one free, it may be worth a try!

Lastly, is a coupon for a free Quip refill! Take it from me, take care of those teeth!

Now, let's take a look at the wines I received this month!

2016 Altre Mon Red Wine — Retail Value $17.99 (or $14 through subscription)

Spain

Body: Medium

Sweetness: dry

Alcohol: 14.3

Winemaking: eco-friendly

The art on this bottle is rather modern and chic. The taste is very fruity due to the notes of cherry and fig. I am not a big red wine drinker: I tend to gravitate to whites and rosé wines. However, this one was delightful! This particular red used old vine Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes also underwent a 33% whole berry fermentation and were aged in cement. This wine pairs well with cured meats, pork, and veggies which is fantastic because I essentially live off of cured meats and vegetables!

2016 Funk Zone White Blend

2016 Funk Zone White Blend---Retail Value $21.99 (or $17.99 with subscription)

Santa Barbara County, California

Body: Medium

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 13.1%

Winemaking: Vegan

This bottle’s art made me think of Ke$ha immediately! I wanna blast “Die Young” while drenching myself in this wine. Okay, not really. I would prefer to actually drink this instead of wearing it. This white blend has notes of elderflower, lime zest, and peach. It is incredibly fruity, with a tart acidic taste due to the lime zest that I enjoyed. This white blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Chenin Blanc was produced in California and fermented in stainless steel. This wine pairs amazingly with fish and sushi… mmmm, sushi.

2017 L’Atelier du Sud Sauvignon—Retail Value $16.99 (or $13 with subscription)

France

Body: Light

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 14.5%

Winemaking: eco-friendly, vegan

This may be my favorite of the bunch! I love light fruity, wines and this hit the spot! This wine has a lot of citrus notes from the lemon and lime, but also has notes of green apple, nectarine, and grass. The apple is especially prominent in the flavor profile. I enjoy the light body of this wine too. This pairs wonderfully with fish, salad, and veggies which is fantastic fare for the warm weather we have been having. Imagine sitting out on a deck sipping this on a warm, summer night! Sounds delightful to me!

2017 Cape Route Cinsault—Retail Value $17.99 (or $14 with subscription)

Western Cape, South Africa

Body: Medium

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 13.7%

Winemaking: eco-friendly

This wine has a unique and interesting taste profile. I couldn’t place it when I had some initially, but could taste a tart, smokiness. The most prominent to me of the tasting notes would be the cranberry and rhubarb, followed by the bacon and spices. The flavor would lend itself perfectly to a steak or burgers on the grill or a heavenly charcuterie tray! I think you can imagine my heart eyes just thinking about said bbq, right?

Verdict: This is my first experience with Winc, and so far I have enjoyed it. I am a bit of a wine novice, so for me, this is a great introductory to a variety of wines, and at a discounted price no less! In addition, this is a great service for someone that likes to keep wine on hand for impromptu get togethers and parties or to have as a gift to present others.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Since Winc allows you to choose your wine, you can get any combination you'd like any month. Sign up today and you're welcome to curate your own or let them choose.
