SnackNation May 2018 Review

R.e.d.d. Peanut Butter Superfood Bar, 2 oz.– Retail Value $2.99

I loved the tagline on this bar! This superfood bar truly tasted like PURE peanut butter. Its texture was more soft than crunchy, even though there were a few peanut pieces nestled in there. It had such a bright peanut flavor, and wasn't too chewy, which I loved. It was like eating a substantial, energizing peanut butter cup!

Wonderful Pistachios, Roasted and Salted, 1 oz.– Buy a 16-oz. bag for $7.19

Classic. Wonderful. Nothing to change here, nothin' at all! Simple pistachios are one of the best snacks of all time, in my opinion. These are my go-to brand. They're lightly salted and so fun to snack on. The shells are also cracked just enough to be easy to open!

Hawaiian Luau BBQ Sweet & Spicy Kettle Style Potato Chips, – Buy a 9-oz. bag for $8.45

These chips have such a wonderfully unique BBQ flavor! There's a touch of zesty spices, and the barbecue flavors are very bright, but not too sweet. The chips themselves aren't too greasy and have a great crunch. It's really everything you could ask for in a flavored kettle chip!

Balance Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch Bar, 1.76 oz. – Buy an 18-count box for $16.99

loved these protein bars when I ran cross country in high school! It's like a dessert! The entire bar tastes like straight-up mint chocolate chip ice cream, and the insides are filled with little Oreo cookie-like pieces. The chocolate outer covering is also perfectly creamy and sweet! What really makes it my go-to energy bar is the fact that there's hardly a hint of that fake-protein flavor to it.

Welch's Island Fruit Snacks, 0.90 oz. – Retail Value $0.99

I giggled a bit when I pulled these out of the box. These were my go-to vending machine snack growing up! I had only tried the berry-flavored gummies before, so these island flavors were exciting to try. They were delicious! (And not too sticky, I might add because a firm gummy texture is important in my book.) I tasted bright mango, pineapple, and citrus flavors. They're a fun snack that would be super easy to pack in lunches!

Laughing Giraffe Lemon Snakaroon – Buy a 22-count bag for $13.95

This was ADORABLE. The treat was such a cute size, and I loved all the coconut flakes! Accompanying the fresh coconut was a very bright lemon flavor. It was a gentle yet powerful flavor combination—the flavors went together perfectly! It's a bite-sized portion, yes, but its moist texture and intricate flavor combination make it feel like a real treat.

Cascadian Farms Peanut Butter Pretzel Granola Bar, 1.25 oz. – Buy a case of 20 bars for $18.42

Another delicious treat! This is an amazing granola bar that feels more like a dessert than a nice portion of protein. It has the perfect ratio of salt, to nuts, to chocolate, to creamy peanut butter flavor. The chocolate under-coating is so decadent. I'm telling you—this bar is flawless on all levels. I would totally buy 'em in bulk!

Bart & Judy Chocolate Chip Cookies, 1 oz. – Buy a 4.2-oz. box for $10.48

I've had these before in a previous snack box and didn't love them, but this time around, they were great somehow! (It honestly might be because they were a bit stale by the time I finished snacking on them, so they felt firm and less crunchy. Strange, but I loved it! The chunks of chocolate chips were just the right size to make a big impact on the overall flavor. They were cute, snackable, and totally tasty.

Daelman's Caramel Stroopwafel, 1.0 oz. – Buy a 24-count box for $17.87

I've also received these before in past snack boxes, and I'll always like 'em! The caramel that's sandwiched between these wafers has an amazing spice to it—I swear, it almost ends up tasting like apple pie! I'll also always love the texture of stroopwafels. They're soft but firm, and not too chewy or sticky. They'd be amazing with coffee in the morning!

Turbana Plantain Chips, 0.5 oz. – Buy a 7-oz. bag for $9.99

I've never been a huge fan of plantains, so I knew I'd have to overcome a bit of bias before I tasted these. Luckily, they were okay! I wish the chips had more of a crunch to them—they're a bit chewy towards the end—but the overall flavor was decent. I think they could have used a bit more salt! For passionate plantain-lovers, these would be a great go-to snack.

RXBAR Blueberry Protein Bar, 1.83 oz. – Retail Value $1.99

I really wanted to like this. I love how pure the ingredients are, but unfortunately, the texture was too strange for me. It almost felt like chewing a Tootsie Roll. I was also surprised at the artificial taste of the blueberries—they were too sweet! I did appreciate the hint of natural lemon zest in this, however.

Pop'd Cheddar Kerns, 1.25 oz. – Retail Value $1.49

I really loved these! They're almost like the halfway point between a popcorn kernel and a piece of popcorn. Like they say on the back: "plain kernels are too hard, regular popcorn is too soft." These are right in the middle, which gives them a unique crunch! I didn't taste too much of the cheddar cheese flavor, as the taste seemed to fade into a classic popcorn flavor by the end, but it was still a great snack overall!

Ona Honey Nut Bar, 1.9 oz. – Buy a 12-count box for $23.68

This bar is VERY moist the moment it's unwrapped. I know it's labeled to be "Honey Nut," but I could really only taste the sunflowers in this, unfortunately. It's hardly sweet and it tastes and feels like sunflower oatmeal—if that's even a thing! The bar's extremely soft texture felt very raw and wholesome, so I'll give it that.

Mrs. Thinster's Chocolate Chip Cookie Thins, 1.5 oz. – Buy a 16-oz. bag for $7.48

A battle of SnackNation mini chocolate chip cookies: who will win? After tasting these and Bart & Judy Chocolate Chip Cookies, I think Bart & Judy's were the winner! These were still great, but they were a bit too crunchy and crumbly for my liking. The chocolate chips were delicious, however. They added a nice and soft, fudgy texture to the cookie's crunch. For those who like crunchy cookies, these could be the sweets you seek!

Super Yummys White Chocolate Coco Yummy, 0.52 oz. – Retail Value $0.99

What a unique little treat! This had a tasteful drizzling of white chocolate and an AMAZINGLY pure caramel taste to it. It's dulce de leche with coconut, and you can feel the coconut flakes in it, which I loved! It reminded me of Samoas—my favorite Girl Scout Cookie—sans the chocolate. It has such a rich, buttery caramel flavor in such a small bite-sized dessert!

Verdict: Each month, my SnackNation experience has gotten better and better! I was so pleased that this month's box didn't contain too many protein bars—it had an amazing variety of textures, flavors, and snacks! The abundance of coconut in this month's treat was also greatly appreciated. I was excited to try each snack I pulled out of the box! Some were misses, like the blueberry RXBAR, but others, like the chocolate cookies and granola bars were standout hits. Even though all the snacks included are on the pure, natural side, they don't taste too healthy or lacking in flavor. I can't wait for next month's box!
