Play! By Sephora May 2018 Box #701 FULL SPOILERS!

Worst Play box. Typically there are a couple items to be excited about. Not this month. It’s like they did the exact opposite of what our profile concerns. Volumizing spray when I don’t have thinning or fine hair and need my stylist to thin my hair out? Not good. And why give anyone who says they have oily skin or concerns about pores, a shiny, pearlescent powder that highlights imperfections? How many times will they send the liquid Kat Von D eyeliner, in black, too? Not a fan of liquid eyeliner or black. With hazel eyes, I opt for purples and sometimes greens.

Hmmm, not a good month for me. All but one of the items (mud mask) was a repeat (I have 3-4 KVD black liners, Porefessionals primers, Mark Jacobs mascaras, Black Opium vials, even 2 of the Detox shampoos). It’s good stuff, just not exciting b/c I have multiples already. I have cancelled all of my many boxes except this one. Why??? I just can’t let go and it’s only $10. I wish they’d raise it to $15 so I could have some incentive to ditch it. 😀

This is my first box. When I subscribed in April, I was able to see “my” April box, which, of course, I was too late to get. It was a great box. This, on the other hand, sends me eyeliner and dry shampoo, which I NEVER use, and primer, that has been in every sub box imaginable since its launch. The mascara is all right, and the mask will be given to my teenage daughter, as I have normal to dry skin. So boring. Considering currency exchange, mail pick-up fee at the border and gas, it gets even sadder.

Ugh. I got box 701 and I couldn’t be more disappointed. Big fail, Sephora Play.

I am listed as having dry hair, but they sent me dry shampoo. I hatehatehate the smell of dry shampoo – chemical overdose, all of them. Also, they make my hair look awful – flat and thin and wig-like.

Then there’s the liquid eyeliner, the junk product of beauty boxes which almost no one wants (except those few lucky people who are happy when they show up). I can’t wear them – they look ridiculous on my small, deep-set eyes – very theatrical and aging. (In my opinion, beauty subscriptions should have a special question about eyeliners when you sign up and should ONLY send them to people who like them, since so many people don’t.)

I have given negative reviews twice now to Sephora play perfumes – I have never smelled a single Sephora perfume that I liked (or could stand, is more like it). Black Opium is a particularly awful example of their perfumes. It was produced after L’Oreal (that blighter of fine designer brands) purchased the YSL company. The original artistic director of YSL reportedly put out a statement clearly dissociating himself from Black Opium, so awful did he apparently find it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the original, great (now sadly reformulated into mediocracy) Opium, it’s just another too-sweet mess of chemicals. (Dear Play: If you want me to stop complaining about your perfumes, stop sending them to me. There are other Play customers who like them – get on the ball and give them to the people who enjoy them, please.)

I don’t use liquid makeup, so the The POREfessional Face Primer is a waste unless I use it as eyeshadow primer (and I’ve been seeing people warn about not doing that because they aren’t formulated for that.)

The mud mask will probably be OK, although I prefer sheet masks.

The only product of 6 that I’m happy about getting is the mascara. This is sad because I was delighted with my first 3 Play boxes and impressed with Sephora for getting it so right. Very disappointed. If next month’s box is as bad, I’m canceling. No point in paying money for something that puts me in a bad mood.

(Sorry for the long rant – I’m just feeling disillusioned about these beauty boxes – they could be SO good and so much fun, but through poor customer service or poor programming, they too often end up a disappointment and waste of money.)

Not much of a complainer but I hate it all! Except Porefessional and that’ll be the size of a fingernail. My box will be up for sale on Mercari the day I get it!

This is the second month in a row, that I would’ve been thrilled with any box except the one Im set to receive. All the items looked so great, and I get the one box with not one thing I’m interested in. What can you do if you like other box’s but never like the one assigned to you? Is there any way to fix it or am I stuck with my bad luck?

So, it says that play points for May’s box will be redeemable online for the first time ever! Does that mean that it’s always going to be like that from here on out??? I sure hope so!

Why did I even re-subscribe? Oh, thats right, because last month I saw there were finally some decent items buuuut they sent me nothing I hoped for and gave me the deeper of the 2 shades of skin tint when I am in their system as 1Y01 the lightest possible shade? I’m starting to feel like Sephora personally has it out for me, and between the box, the customer service and the crappy sales/rewards I’ve moved 90% of my cosmetic purchases to other retailers or directly from brands. I’m VIB and I don’t even shop there anymore.

I hate complaining like this but I feel like these companies don’t even care about their customers feelings and opinions anymore unless they’re saying things publicly.

PS- NOBODY WANTS THE POREFESSIONAL, LET IT GO ALREADY SEPHORA.

Oh man, I hate to be a downer but I just found out that this is my box and I am so bummed. I got an eyeliner, a primer and a blah Sephora brand product in my last box! A little more variation would be nice!

I loved last month’s box (possibly my favorite so far), this month looks poohy.

This is my third box and the first one Im actually really excited about! I love getting eye products and I’m dying to try these. I have never gotten a perfume in any other subscribtion box yet so I’m pretty excited about that too. I use dry shampoo in between days I wash normally and recently bought some I’m not that fond of so hoping this one is a lot better. I have the benefit porefessional primer already but benefit is amazing so no complaints. As for the mud mask, I love getting any kind of face mask. I can’t wait to get my box now! 😍

This is my box. I wasn’t excited at first, but I also just emailed them about my bye bye pores being broken, and wow their customer service is amazing. They’re sending a whole replacement box for April. Gotta love Sephora.

Oh man. I’m normally pretty accepting about stuff but I really hope this isn’t my bag. I’ll have to check and see what number I have but I don’t want a single one of these items. Mostly cause I have a million of all those items

this is my box (BOO) and it is proof positive that they send them out randomly, and do NOT bother to even glance at our ‘beauty profiles’.
I was told if we gave enough notice, they could change out which box we were to receive, well I called Sephora today, and they now say, we are just stuck with whichever box they’ve RANDOMLY selected.
fyi- Sephora essentially told me today, that they do not consider our beauty profiles at all (tho they claim to do).

This will be my second time getting a box and last month I was happy, I use just about everything in my box. I’m just very thankful I work my butt off as a server and my subscription boxes are my little present to myself. I love being able to try out new products or pass along a couple here and there. That’s what it’s all about. Making ourselves beautiful on the inside and outside. I even love my birch box. I have so many subscriptions ipsy, birch box, Sephora, boxy, Ricky’s Cult crushes, glossy, yes oh Yas. My husband has even made me my own little beauty room with a desk out of pallets!

Well this is my box but last time I didnt get what they said I was. All new stuff to try I really wanted the Becca but I can always try to use that kind of eye liner. Never been good at it and my eyes r vit and round so dont know how to make it look good one me oh well I’ll look it up haha. If I even get this .

This will be my second box I hope I get a good one. I didnt get one that showed up on here. It’s like they just throw it all together. It wasnt what they sent in my email. So no telling what I will get. But I am excited to get my first BoxyCharm box. 🙂

I’m definitely still glad I’m cancelled.

I haven’t been charged. Has anyone else not been charged?

I hope 768 is better. :/
