My Fashion Crate May 2018 Review

Inside there was a letter welcoming us to the very first box from this subscription. They also invite you to shop their eBoutique where you can purchase items from the box and more with a special discount for members. They also included a $25 gift card code for Sweet & Spark.

I like that they included this insert which gives descriptions of the items and lists their value. The front side is everything you will receive in the Essentials box while the back also shows what you get in the Premium box. They also give value totals for each box.

They included the $25 Sweet & Spark gift card in their value total as well as the $30 Sterling Forever gift card. My issue with this is that when I went to both sites, I wasn’t able to use either of them without paying any extra. On Sweet & Spark, I found items under $25 but had to pay for shipping. For Sterling Forever, I couldn’t find anything under $30 even though they did offer free shipping. Instead of counting these towards the value, I consider them more of a bonus item!

Loveriche Flirty Blush Floral Blouse, size L - Retail Value $42

This top is not my style at all, but I really like it! It is fun, flirty, floral and perfect for spring. It’s also pretty lightweight so I think you could get away with wearing it on a cooler summer day with shorts. I felt really girly in this shirt and even though I felt sort of pirate-y, I loved the ruffles.

Loveriche Flirty Blush Floral Blouse, size L

This shirt is not very flattering on me at the moment (sorry for the awkward picture!) since I am nursing and my chest is much too large for this, but I’m looking forward to when I can wear this comfortably. The quality seems to be pretty decent and there is a liner inside the shirt which is great because you don’t have to wear a cami under it. They recommend dry cleaning it, but it also says you can machine wash it. I’ll probably handwash just to be safe!

Sterling Forever Leather Fringe Reversible Black & Cobalt Blue Tassel Necklace

Sterling Forever Leather Fringe Reversible Black & Cobalt Blue Tassel Necklace - Retail Value $79 (found here for $45)

This is the necklace from Sterling Forever which came with a $30 gift card. The necklace itself is really large, even all of the details like the chain and clasp. I would have loved this necklace if it was on a smaller scale. The gold accents are really nice and it’s awesome that it’s reversible with blue fringe on one side and black on the other. You can see the little screws on the gold piece of the black side which seems a little odd to me, especially since one of the screws is poking up a teensy bit more than the others and looks like it’s been stripped. The screws also are not picture on their website which seems odd too. Luckily they are small and not noticeable to anyone but me, so I don’t think it takes away from the look, but other subscribers might be a little irked about this since it’s valued at $79. This necklace is pretty heavy and chunkier on than it looks in the picture (see below) and it also hangs at what I felt was an awkward spot. As I was wearing it, I really didn’t notice the weight of it and it started to feel less awkward to me, so I think I might end up wearing this after all when I’m feeling a little bold!

Maria Shireen Rose Gold Hair Tie Bracelet Set - Listed Value $12.00

When I saw the spoiler I was excited to receive an actual Maria Shireen hair tie bracelet since the ones I have aren’t name-brand. I was eager to see the quality, but I was pretty let down when I realized they had sent the plastic version of the bracelet. I couldn’t even find it on the website other than in a set for teens. The rose gold was really pretty and the packaging was nice with the extra hair ties, but the bracelet did not fit my wrist.

I don’t have especially large wrists or anything, but you can see this was squeezing tight on me which was very uncomfortable. This is another reason I think it might be the teen/kid’s version of this bracelet. Disappointing, but still cute and I can give it to my daughter. Plus it’s only valued at $12, so I don’t feel completely deceived. They also included a coupon for 50% off on their website.

Manna Kadar Eye Candy Priming Shadow Stick in Sugar-

Manna Kadar Eye Candy Priming Shadow Stick in Sugar - Retail Value $24.00

I’m not surprised to find a Manna Kadar item in a subscription box, but thank goodness it was not a lip product! I was pleasantly surprised by this shadow stick and I think it gave me pretty decent coverage for my under eye circles. It is pretty stiff when it goes on, but I think that’s good for staying power and I could still smudge it in enough for coverage. It says it can be used as an eye or lip primer, concealer or highlighter/ shadow. I think it is a pretty versatile product and I could see bringing this in my travel bag and getting a lot of use out of it for different purposes. It is a little yellow for me, but I think as a primer that it will be fine. They also included a coupon code for 20% your entire purchase on their website.

Here I have the necklace on and the concealer under my eyes (and no other makeup- scary!).

The following items are only in the Premium Box:

Honey Belle Breeze Ivory Floral Shorts, size L

Honey Belle Breeze Ivory Floral Shorts, size L - Retail Value $35.00

These shorts are super cute and look very comfortable, but, unfortunately, my postpartum hips will not fit into them at the moment so I couldn’t model them for you. But I’m hoping I’ll get to wear them at some point this summer because they are really cute! They are definitely not something I would ever purchase, but that makes it more fun to receive in a box because I do like them. The floral pattern with ruffles is again really girly and flirty like the blouse. They are a great choice for spring or summer. The only thing I wish they had included was maybe a style sheet with some ideas of what type of shirt to pair it with!

They are lightweight and actually have a lining which means I don’t have to think too much about what I’m wearing underneath, plus they have a tie waist which means I can get a good fit (once I get them over my hips). They are 100% rayon and hand wash only, which is sort of a pain, but with the delicate, light material, I think it won’t be too bad.

Deux Lux Barrow Clutch - Listed Value $90 (MSRP $105)

This is my favorite item in the box! But I’m also a bag lady… The bag came wrapped carefully in tissue paper inside of a dust bag. The clutch is mostly ivory with a few champagne colored pieces woven through that add just a bit of shimmer. The woven pattern seems like it would be more delicate, but the stitching is very nicely done, and the material is thick and soft which makes it feel a bit sturdier than other faux leather bags I’ve had. Although I couldn’t find anything about the material, I found a similar bag on their site listed as being “cruelty-free non-leather.”

The details on this bag are beautiful. It has a magnetic closure which is hidden inside the purse and the lining has little gold dogs printed on it. The zipper for the inner pocket is even gold toned as is the metal plate logo inside. These touches do indeed make it feel luxe.

The best part about this bag is that it can be carried as a clutch or worn from the shoulder with the removable strap. There is also a buckle that you can use to make the strap longer or shorter. Plus the gold chain details are really pretty and a little nicer than just having a strap completely made of the non-leather material. I think the style of this clutch is great because it will go with a lot of different outfits both dressy and casual.

Verdict: My Fashion Crate was definitely a different type of subscription- receiving all things girly- clothing, jewelry, makeup and a bag in just one box! I do not consider myself a fashionista in any way, but I thought this was a really good mix of items and even styles. Some brought me out of my comfort zone, which I can appreciate, while others were pretty classic and will appeal to a wide range of women, I think.

As for the value of the box, I don’t feel it’s fair to count the gift cards towards the total since I can’t use them without paying something out of pocket. Even so, the total for the Premium box still comes to $282 which I think is a great value for a $54.90 ($49.95 + $4.95 shipping) box. As for the Essentials box, the value is $157 without the gift cards which is still a fair value for a $39.95 ($35 + $4.95 shipping) box. When comparing the two subscriptions, for $14.95 extra for the Premium box we received the shorts and clutch valued at $125.

I’m looking forward to seeing what their next box will look like with summer coming up, especially since there is a possibility that they will send shoes. I think it’s really difficult to judge a box from just one month’s goodies, so the next box should really help set the tone for this subscription!

I went to sign up for this box because it looks awesome an just an FYI they don’t ask you for your shoe size anymore, just top and bottom size.

I think the gift cards should be considered in the box value.

It is up to the person to decide to use it or not. If I get a Target, etc. gift card it still has a value. It is my choice if I spend a little more. It is still worth the amount on the card.

It’s like throwing the $25 or $30 away just because you might have to add shipping or a small difference in price.

The reasoning on the other comments does not make sense to me.

Even though I don’t find this box appealing at all, I really love how thorough this review is!

I just love the iridescent bubble mailer… I’d swap for it lol, but doubt anyone would list it. My name should link to my listings though.

I’ve had a knockoff of the hair tie bracelet and while it’s a great idea, the knockoff I had was impractical and the hair tie part was easy to get off of the bracelet, but difficult/ time consuming to put back on the bracelet. I’d rather just wear the hair tie alone around my wrist. I hope that the branded version is better, the non-teen/plastic version at least.

I thought those shorts were PJ’s. I can’t really tell what the target age group for this box is. I’m 54 and would wear the blouse and could certainly use the eye product but the necklace and shorts look too young. Oh well, I don’t need another box.

This box sounds like something I would be very interested in,BUT the fact that the top, bottom, and hair tie bracelet are all too small on you is a bad sign. You absolutely do not look like a size”Large”. I do love Deux Lux bags and have quite a few thanks to the mystery bags advertised on the MSA site. Maybe if they expand their top sizes I’ll take a chance.

In reading the size options, it says they have S, M, L and 0-18. That doesn’t even line up. If they are offering 0-18, they really should have minimally XS-XL, if not XXS-XXL. S-L is like 4/6-12/14, depending on the brand.

I better clarify, you look much smaller than a size large. And I completely agree that the gift cards should not be included in the value of the box.

Haha thanks, Katie! 🙂 And it’s hard to tell with the sizes as of now since everything fits me a little differently at the moment! But maybe apparel with a little more stretch to it would be a better option when you have such a variety of women to cater to!
