Julep Living Large Mystery Box May 2018 Review
Skip The Brush Creme-to-Powder Blush in Moonlit Sand, Full-Size! – Retail Value $24
I am not a big blush person, but I really enjoy this one! This is described as a rose gold shimmer, and it almost looks like a highlighter instead of a blush. The lack of bright pink or red means that I am more comfortable using this on my naturally red cheeks, and It was soft and creamy to apply and blended out easily. See it swatched below!
Eyeshadow 101 Creme-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in Taupe Shimmer, Full-Size – Retail Value $18
I love that this cool beige shimmer eyeshadow is a neutral color with just a hint of pizazz. It is super easy to apply on my lids and blend out with the smudge at the end of this stick, and it is also waterproof. See it swatched below!
When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Ultraviolet, Full-Size! – Retail Value $16
This waterproof eye pencil glides smoothly when applying, and I love the pop of color this provides! Blue-violet colors like these always look nice with my eye color, and I usually like to line my lower lash line with products like these because it is waterproof and won’t budge. Supposedly this is a blue-violet shimmer, but I didn’t see anything that makes it shimmery on me.
Here are the swatches with the blush on top, the eyeshadow in the middle, and the eyeliner on the bottom. I tried to demonstrate the color payoff, but these also all blended beautifully.
Lock Down Your Brows Iconic Brow Gel in Clear, Full-Size! – Retail Value $22
This clear brow gel provided flexible hold when I was shaping my brows but (thankfully!) didn’t leave my brows crunchy! I liked the natural hold it provides— it essentially just makes your eyebrows look like the natural but better versions of themselves.
Take a Breather Sheer Shimmer Oxygen Nail Treatment, Full-Size! – Retail Value $18
I have had acrylic nails for over two years, so while my nails probably could use a breather it isn’t going to happen. This nail treatment provides a very sheer shimmer tint while strengthening your nails and allowing your nail beds to breathe. I will be passing this on to a friend in need who doesn’t have acrylics. Even though I can’t use it, I appreciate that a nail treatment was included in this box as they are more expensive than regular polishes but provide great benefits to the health of your nails.
Now it is time for what Julep is known for: Their polishes!
Julep Nail Polish in Myriam, Full-Size! – Retail Value $14
This is a classic bright red that Julep describes as a “Casino Red Creme.” As an enjoyer of the offerings in Las Vegas, I am not too sure what about this red makes it a casino red, but it is gorgeous nonetheless and applied smoothly. Two coats were all it took for shiny and lovely nails.
Julep Nail Polish in Tasha, Full-Size! – Retail Value $14
One of my favorite affordable nail polishes is Sinful Colors Pinky Glitter, and Tasha is the high-end version of that. I love this melon pink iridescent glitter, and you can wear it alone or with a different pink underneath to amp up the color. This was semi-opaque in two coats, and I would probably use a base color underneath rather than apply three coats in order to make this gorgeous color last. I always use a top coat with my polishes, but it is extra important with glitters to smooth them out and pack on the shine.
Julep Nail Polish in Kelsey, Full-Size! – Retail Value $14
This is described as a powder peach creme, however, I can’t really see any of the pink undertones that make a peach color peach. This wears as a straight beige on me, but it would be a great neutral to wear to work or as a base for some bright nail art. Julep has really nailed the formula of making a good creme polish and this one is no exception.
Julep Nail Polish in Something Blue, Full-Size! – Retail Value $14
This blue is absolutely lovely, and the next time I go to get a pedicure this will be what I put on my toes. I love that it is bright without being neon, and it really reminds me of a perfect summer sky. Formula and application was perfection, and this had a lot of shine in it even without a top coat.
Here are the swatches. From left to right we have Myriam, Kelsey, Something Blue, and Tasha.
Verdict: I think this was a great mystery box for heading into the summer months. All of the makeup provided should hold up great to the hot and humid days ahead, and all of the nail polish colors are great for summer. I also appreciate that everything in this box is full-sized and not a discontinued product. This is a great box for building up your makeup and nail polish collection without breaking the bank, and I believe they offer a new box about once a month! Value-wise, Julep promised a value of $150 and I calculated a total value of $154.
