GiftLit May 2018 Review

Before receiving my books, I received a card in the mail from GiftLit that welcomed me and provided my gift code. One thing I really like about this service is that you always have the option to go online and swap out any of the books you’re scheduled to receive. This is great to ensure that recipients get books that they really want and don’t end up with any books that they already have or are not interested in. They also allow you to return any book that is shipped to you within 30 days.

My book came wrapped in this bright, colorful paper. This is an option that costs an extra $3/month. It’s nice that they have this option, but when you’re paying for a gift subscription, I feel like this is one of those things that should already be included.

Little Elliot Big City by Mike Curato

Little Elliot Big City by Mike Curato – Retail Value $7.99 (Found here for $7.48)

I might be partial because I love elephants, but I thought this was a really cute book! It is a board book, but it still has an actual story to it about an elephant who is too little to do everything he wants to do. The poor little guy can’t even buy a cupcake! Luckily, he finds a friend in the big city and all is well in the end.

My kids enjoyed this book and so did I. I’ve heard of Elliot before but never read any of the books, so I was happy we got a chance to check it out! The illustrations were beautiful and the story itself was sweet. I’m definitely going to look into getting more Elliot books to read- especially now that we have our own Elliot stuffed animal to read with us!

Merry Makers Elliot Stuffed Animal – Retail Value $15.00 (found here for $11.40)

I love the idea of this Cuddle Collection! Receiving our own little stuffed animal to go along with our story is so much fun. It definitely makes it easier to engage readers in the story, plus Elliot is just so adorable! He looks just like he does in the story and this is a nice, quality plush. My kids loved that they had a real version of the story character to play with.

Verdict: The total value of the book and stuffed animal was $22.99. The cost of GiftLit is $33.41 per month ($172.46 for 6 months + $28 shipping). The book and Elliot plush were really cute, but that’s still a pretty big difference in value, especially when you factor in sale prices. It does make for a really nice gift, but I could probably put this together myself and ship it for less than what it costs.

This subscription service does offer a lot of different books and various collections, so the value could change a lot depending on your choices and even vary from month to month. I do think this is a great gift for a book lover since you really can’t go wrong with them being able to choose their own books if they want to, but it just depends on what your budget is.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you can order this collection and customize it so that you receive the same books.
