Date Night In Box April 2018 Review

This month’s theme was Easy Like Sunday Morning and our itinerary came in the form of a fake newspaper filled with some activities for us to complete. The front page gave info on how to set the mood by finding a great cuddle location for your date and also how to tune in to your Spotify playlist.

I do like that they create a playlist to go along with your date. I think it’s a fun way to focus on the theme and it’s nice to have your music all set up for you ahead of time. This month’s playlist was fitting for the theme, lots of Jack Johnson and other easy listening tunes.

When your box ships, you receive an email with tracking information as well as a link to the website featuring a menu designed around your date theme. This month they also included the recipes in our box which I thought was helpful.

I like how the menu includes drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic suggestions), an appetizer, main course and dessert all based on the theme for the month. They include a complete shopping list to print out which is very convenient, but the whole idea of making these meals is pretty time-consuming. If you have the time though, it is really nice to have this option.

Jacquet Petite Belgian Waffles - Buy 7 for $4.99

In addition to the menu, they also provide a snack for your date. This time they included a pack of ready to go waffles which came with two in the pack. These were fitting for the theme. We warmed them up before eating them and they were pretty good. A little bit sweet, but also a little bit dry.

Ben’s Sugar Shack Maple Syrup 1.7oz

Ben’s Sugar Shack Maple Syrup 1.7oz - Retail Value $1.60

The box also included a little bottle of maple syrup to go with our waffles. I thought this was a really cute touch. The syrup itself was good- light in flavor and paired nicely with the waffles.

Tea Drops in Citrus Ginger Single Serve (2 packs) - Total Retail Value $4 ($2 each)

Our box included two of these little tea drops. My husband and I are both big coffee drinkers in the morning, so we probably would have preferred that but I do like the occasional cup of tea, so these were fun to try.

You just drop one of these in a cup of boiling water and stir it around until it dissolves. I actually really loved this! The tea is already sweetened, but only just a hint of sweetness which worked perfectly with the bite of ginger. I liked the spice in this tea and how convenient and easy it is to make. I might just have to buy myself some more!

Happy Spritz Essential Oil Towlettes Singles (2 packs) in Good Morning Beautiful and Sweet Dreams Darling

Happy Spritz Essential Oil Towlettes Singles (2 packs) in Good Morning Beautiful and Sweet Dreams Darling - Retail Value $3.50 ($1.75 each)

Also included were these two packets with an essential oil wipe inside. It says these are for use on your body, face, and hands and can be used to freshen up. Sweet Dreams Darling was a calming, relaxing scent with lavender and chamomile oils while Good Morning Beautiful was an energizing, uplifting blend with orange and lemon oils. They smelled nice and felt refreshing leaving only a light scent behind.

Inside our newspaper were a few different activities for us to do together. The first page had a fill in the blank section and a crossword puzzle for us to complete. The crossword was a great idea, but the fill in the blank felt a bit awkward for us to complete together. “You are my favorite _________ in the whole world.” I would have liked it better if we each had our own paper to complete and could have exchanged them afterward.

The next page gave some advice on relationships, which seems to be something they include in every box in some form or another. They also included instructions for a dice game and a set of dice for us to use. The game wasn’t very engaging and it was actually a one player game that they wanted us to take turns with. There could have been SO many other ways to incorporate the dice and make up a fun game for us to play. I felt like this was a huge missed opportunity on their part. It really lacked creativity, which was disappointing.

The last two activities were a Mad Lib for us to complete together and a set of questions to ask each other. Mad libs are always a fun time for us since we like to be silly and tease each other. I also thought the questions were good- they provided us with some great conversation topics that we hadn’t explored before.

The last page was an article about their packing facility and some of the people who work there with them.

Verdict: While this month’s Date Night In Box was a HUGE improvement over last month’s, this box was still a bit of a letdown. The theme was cute, the snacks and items they included fit well and the playlist was good. The actual activities from this month are where the date really fell short. If they had just included a more exciting game for us to play, then it could have been a much better box. Maybe a travel size Scrabble or Scattergories game or something along those lines and it would have felt like much more of an actual date. Taking turns rolling dice and then adding up the numbers was just not our idea of a good game. They really needed a wow factor here and it would have been a great box. The cost of the box is $41.99 ($34.99 + $7.00 shipping) and we received about $11 worth of actual goods, so were the newspaper and Spotify playlist worth the extra $30 to have someone put that together for us? Unfortunately, I don’t think so.

To Wrap Up:

I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

This box is in competition with the Oreo subscription box as to which one is more unfortunate.

The tea drops sound really interesting, but this subscription seems way overpriced.

Eeek… I was very curious about this box… I can put together something like this by googling “date ideas” and going to the dollar store… Don’t think it will cost me more than $3… Not worth it in the bare minimum.

They are stingy with the snacks. There’s more syrup there than waffles. I’m surprised they sent two tea bags.

Wow, these are so lame…I mean, this isn’t quite as bad as the previous one, but still…definitely not worth the price point!

I just don’t see this as a “date “ night box. The value is not there for me

If this was more of a $20 price point I would nab it but I agree it is too high for what you receive. Great honest review. 🙂

It definitely does feel more like a $20 box!
