CampusCube for Guys 'Midnight Snack' Care Package May 2018 Review

While it has been a few years since I was in college, I remember those days vividly and depended on care packages from my parents as I went to school five hours away from home. Let's see what this month's box brought us!

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - redd energy bar CampusCube Guys May 2018 - redd energy bar open

R.E.D.D Chocolate Superfood Energy Bar - Buy a pack of 12 for $35.88

This bar is packed with 10 grams of protein, superfoods, vitamins, minerals, and a shot of caffeine for a quick energy boost. I tend to not love energy bars like this as they just taste too "earthy" for me. This bar had a nice crunch to it and was soft like a brownie. It was filling and would make a great boost in the morning or late in the afternoon. I could see this being a great snack to turn to on a night of studying instead of something like a candy bar, which was always my go-to!

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - protein shake

Olly Superfood Protein Smoothie x2, 1.4 oz. - Buy a 22.5 oz container for $27.99

These protein smoothie packs are made to be an easy way to make a healthy drink. All you have to do is mix the powder with a liquid like milk, water, coconut milk, almond milk, etc. No need to use a blender or even add ice if you don't want to. However, I think this would benefit from adding it all into a blender with ice. I didn't really enjoy this drink very much, it was very grainy and thin, yet it clumped together no matter how much I stirred. It was very tart with a strong berry flavor with hints of sweetness in each sip. I could not bring myself to finishing this drink, but since I got two packets, I am going to try making it in my blender next time.

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - happy trails CampusCube Guys May 2018 - happy trails open

Creative Snacks Company Happy Trails, 3 oz. - Buy a pack of 6 for $19.82

I love trail mix so much, but it's not something that I normally buy anymore. I was beyond excited to receive this snack and gobbled it down within a day. This is the perfect study snack, sweet treat on the go, or something to just enjoy while studying for finals. Trail mix really does remind me of my college does so I love that this snack was in this months box.

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - coffee

Organic Forto Coffee Hershey's Chocolate, 7 fl oz. - Buy a box of 6 for $18 (found here for $15)

This is a little cold coffee that you can enjoy on the go, no need to brew or add anything. It is a sweet and creamy Hershey chocolate flavor and goes down smoothly. This is something I would have tossed in my bag in a hurry to an early morning class for a quick burst of energy.

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - midnight snack chocolate bar CampusCube Guys May 2018 - midnight snack chocolate bar open

Hammond's Midnight Snack - Retail Value $3.95

This chocolate bar was a delightful surprise! It is made with milk chocolate, pretzel, cookie, brittle, marshmallow, and cereal. The chocolate was rich and creamy and there was a wonderful crunch from the pretzel, cookie, and cereal. The marshmallow was really the shining star though! This is the type of late night snack I would turn to always in college!

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - cup of noodles

The Original Cup Noodles Chicken Flavor, 2.25 oz. - Buy a box of 12 for $9.92

This is a classic college snack for me so I was so happy to see it this month! I spent many nights in the library where I would just bring a box of ramen with me to eat quickly. It is super salty and super filling, the perfect late night snack!

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - pretzel pete mini twists

Pretzel Pete Mini Twists Salted Caramel, 3.5 oz. - Buy a box of 8 for $20

I love pretzels, but what I love more is a sweet and salty pretzel version. These pretzels are amazing I could not put them down! The caramel flavor really shines through and you get light hints of salt with every pretzel piece. The perfect sweet treat while studying or really for anytime!

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - pizza chips CampusCube Guys May 2018 - pizza chips open

Oven Baked Pizza Chips Tomato & Basil, 4.5 oz. - Retail Value $2.99

I couldn't believe that these chips are made with pizza dough! They have a lovely crunch to them and would be perfect used with a hummus dip or paired with cheese slices. The tomato flavor was strong but not overpowering with a light hint of basil.

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - shower wipes

Dude Shower On The Go Body Wipe x2 - Buy a box of 10 for $7.99

These shower wipes are meant for guys so I passed them along to my husband. They have a light and fresh scent so nothing overpowering. He said that he used them after working out and that he felt very refreshed and less smelly after. This is great for someone to use that is going from the gym to class or has just been in the library for a little too long.

CampusCube Guys May 2018 - Socks

Pizza Slice Socks - Retail Value $8.99

These socks are so cute! They are a men's size 7 to 12 so they don't fit my foot, but I was happy to pass them along to my husband. He loves pizza and funky socks so these are perfect for him. These are a wonderful gift to send to a college guy that probably needs some fresh and fun socks to wear!

Verdict: This month's CampusCube was filled with wonderful snacks! I remember those long study sessions, days of going from my internship to class, from the gym to class and snacks were always something that I was in need of. There is a great mix of sweet treats and some healthier options that are perfect for any time of the day. I receive a whopping ten items, and it was so great seeing the non-snack items like the socks. What a fun and easy way to fill your college student up with some yummy treats!

Why do they think all college kids need is snacks?

Lol send laundry detergent and a roll of quarters, a gift card for pizza or starbucks!

Thanks for the nice review, Taryn, and the helpful suggestions about laundry detergent and other items. We have some of these things in our Fall 2018 boxes (no rolls of quarters, though 😉

Great to see such engagement in the comments sections for one of our CampusCubes. It is difficult to get caught up in the average retail value of each item because some of the items, like the socks ($9.00), have a high value and others (like the Cup Noodles) might have a lower value. When we curate a box, we’re looking at the overall assortment of items and we choose much higher quality items from smaller producers that are always American-made, usually organic, and artisanal types of snacks that are not in the usual vending-machine food care packages that we see from a lot of other companies. So while we could do something ‘cheaper’, it’s not our niche since our buyers keep telling us that they want the higher quality items. We also include shipping in our box cost – there is no additional charge – so the $10-$12 that another company might charge – is already included in our cost which makes the price seem higher in comparison to most others that charge a separate shipping cost. We find that we compare favorably against any other care package in terms of cost and quality. Again, we appreciate the feedback and the fact that you’ve taken the time to read the review and post! Best, Emma (CampusCube)

This box had a theme of midnight snacks. Not all of the boxes are so snack heavy, but since this was the theme that is mainly what was featured. Thank you for your post!

Severely overpriced. You could go and pick out twice the snacks and a pair of socks for much cheaper or double what was in the box. This is no deal.

The value on this box is awful so I’d never subscribe but I like seeing what is in them for some fun new snack ideas.

$4.49 for a cup noodle? Never ever ever

Nancy M.

It doesn’t say $4.49 for one– a box of 12 is listed at $9.92.

Value Breakdown: The cost of this box comes to $44.90, including shipping fees. I received a total of ten items in this box which averages out to $4.49 per item.

So, a cup noodle = $4.49

Jenai

It might be helpful to include the value received in the value breakdown vs. how much they ended up charging on average. 🙂 I estimated about $33 in value based off of the prices you listed which seems a lot lower than the box price. It would be good to know if that is typical for the box.

Thank you for the feedback! A lot of times I won’t include the total value since most of the retail values I found are based on purchasing in bulk when I received only one of something. This is great to note for future reviews though and I will try to include that next time!

It is. I have no idea how they stay in business.
