I received my email invite today. They let you swap books if you’d like. I have a 6 and 7 year old so I like how the books will be more tailored to their age vs Lillypost.

More specifically, they show you the 2 books you will receive and let you swap them out. I choose the 2 they selected, Appleblossom the possum and Those darn squirrels.

I’m sure there’s some decent curation with this subscription. I prefer hardcover books, too, because my son can be tough on books. But it’s hard to beat the free book each month from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library! I’ll be sad when my son ages out of the program.

love this idea, it’s a great way to encourage more reading for older kids. (Ps amazon rapids is great too!)

It seems really overpriced for what you’re getting. I know they’re just examples, but the books in the 0-2 are currently $24 total on amazon and the 3-5 are $23. Pretty much the same price as the subscription. I guess I’d have to wonder why I’d sign up for a subscription where I have no choice in what I receive when I could just purchase exactly what I want for the same price.

I guess I’d also never buy hardcover books for my preschooler unless it was something with sentimental value so I guess that makes it feel even pricier to me since the paperback versions (which is what I would normally buy) are far cheaper.

If someone routinely buys hardcover books it might be a good value, but for me we’d nornally buy paperback unless it’s somethibg special. So definitely not something I’d sign up for if it’s not going to save me money vs just buying the books from amazon.

My older son is a big reader (younger one is still developing, and we have SOOOOO MANY little kids’ books due to the fact that my mom is a retired teacher). He takes pretty good care of his books, but paperbacks are so much more affordable, which is important given how quickly he devours books. We really only purchase hardcovers when we have no other choice. (To Amazon’s credit, it is a great way to find used books in very good shape, which I love because there are no more used book stores in the area to browse. General secondhand stores are very much hit or miss, so it’s not worth the trip.)

So, I agree, I am not about to fork over that much money for no real discount on the products, which are more expensive than what we would have bought anyway, especially when we may very well end up with stuff he doesn’t want/like or already has.

Other book boxes are cheaper with more books. I pay about $15/month for Lillypost for my son and I get 5 board books.

Requested an invite, but they’re going to have to be awesome to beat my love of Bookroo.
