Whiskerbox March 2018 Review
One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else! Let’s see what was in store this month:
There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names – Angus!
Please note: Whiskerbox recently changed their information cards a bit. There are some box variations and everything you could possibly receive is listed, though you won’t necessarily get every item on the card. (You will still receive, in the case of the “Meow” version, 4-6 items, including apparel, for a total value of $76 or greater. For what it’s worth, I think the $76 is Canadian; I am pretty sure Whiskerbox is based out of Canada somewhere, although I can’t find an address to confirm this.)
Cloud 9 Chick n’ Kick, 35 g – Listed Value $10
I think the value from the information card may be in Canadian dollars, but this treat doesn’t seem to be available in the US. For some subscribers, that may be a bonus – you won’t get this in other cat subscription boxes! This has some dairy in it but no actual chicken, which is a little weird (it is flavored with nutritional yeast). The ingredients are A-OK for Mr. Kitty, but, sadly, there’s no way he could eat one of these with his bad teeth (he can’t really chew). However, the other cats liked these pretty well.
Catnip Spray from CatIt, 3 fl oz – Retail Value $6.99
My cats like this pretty well. It doesn’t make for the best “action” photos, being a clear liquid, but if you spray it on something, it gives that item a little bit of catnip scent (seems to work best when freshly applied). I once got Monkey to chew on a cardboard box by spraying this on it (not that I would necessarily recommend doing that…).
Catzilla Fluffy Roll Toy from All for Paws – Retail Value $5.99
This is a crinkly catnip toy with fuzz on the ends. It is large enough that I’d describe it as a kicker or wrestler type toy. My older cats don’t get into such things, but Angus happily plays with this (mostly after the photo session was over, of course…). It is hard to find All for Paws toys for sale online so if you are looking for less-common cat items, that may be another reason to consider this subscription.
Personalized Cat Apparel from Cat Couture – Listed Value $35
Haha, I don’t even know what to say about this. It is a knitted shark hat for cats. It has the look of something handmade. I think it is awesome. (For what it’s worth, you can tell Whiskerbox your cat is large or small when you sign up. I said “large” because I figured I’d have the best chance of getting apparel on Monkey and Mr. Kitty. This fit Monkey’s head, and probably would’ve fit Madison’s, but Mr. Kitty’s head was a bit small for this.) Anyway, I eagerly anticipate this box each month to see what cat costume or hat we’ll get next and I was not disappointed. (I think the value may be in Canadian dollars again, but I’m not sure.)
Kitty photo time!
I mean, I have to get at least one photo of Sneaky like this for every review.
And sometimes more than one.
Kitty's tongue! (And yes, I have super dry and irritated hands.)
Down the hatch!
This was a little big for Mr. Kitty but he looks adorable in it. (He didn’t move the whole time I had it on him.)
But NO ONE beats Monkey when it comes to hat reactions.
I’m sure he thought this was a trap after the hat thing. He actually ate this, which was a surprise, as he usually doesn’t go for treats.
I’m honestly surprised I got this on him and he didn’t run away in terror.
Angus liked the treats too.
And he is a fan of this toy.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $57.98 for the March 2018 Whiskerbox. Take that with a grain of salt as I think some of the prices may be in Canadian dollars (I did the conversion or found US sources when I could). That is about $8 over the cost of the subscription which is quite reasonable for a cat subscription. My cats were fans of the treats, which are a brand and type I’ve never seen before, and I laughed quite a lot while taking photos of them in the hat.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get April's box as your first box.
