The Case Full of Seoul - Best of Korean Skincare kit from Costco is available now! (Thanks for the heads up, Anna!)

K Beauty skincare is a lifestyle category of its own. Now, K Beauty incubator Umma, has created The Case Full of Seoul, which offers an ultra-luxe Korean skincare experience in one, easy to navigate kit. This one-stop-shop for K Beauty contains the best of the best from seven of Korea’s most sought-after brands, which have been meticulously curated so that each product in the box complements the other. These 10 skin-changing products truly work best when used together and they come with clear instructions for multiple skincare regimens for healthy, vibrant, gorgeous skin.

The Box: The Case Full Of Seoul, Best Of Korean Skincare

The Cost: $149.99 + free shipping

The Products:

  • Maycoop Raw Sauce Mini Duo – this toner, emulsion and essence in one intensely hydrates and revitalizes dull skin. It uses ingredients that mimic molecules in human skin, such as maple tree sap, to help retain extra high absorbency.
  • 9 Wishes Rice Foaming Cleanser – provides a micro-ground rice texture that gently exfoliates dead surface skin cells while cleansing makeup impurities such as oil, sebum and blackheads. This formula is rich in nutrients that brighten the skin and restore hydration.
  • One O Seven Core Flex Essential Liquid – this skin essence is formulated with 100% naturally fermented vinegar and contains seven essential amino acids that all work together to help reduce acne, kill bacteria and provide anti-aging benefits.
  • Urang True Rose Repair Essence – another beautiful essence that contains organic Bulgarian rose water and rose water oil. It calms the skin and provides a cooling effect to ease redness and re-energize sensitive skin.
  • Tov Camellia Wrinkle Free Eye Solution – safe for the delicate eye area, this eye solution uses Shea butter and macadamia nut oil to create a skin-friendly structure to ensure active ingredients can penetrate the skin. Elastomar gel absorbs oil and fills in fine-lines and wrinkles.
  • Maycoop Raw Moisturizer – this specialized formula uses moisture “balls” which are filled with oil and pop onto the skin to provide the ultimate hydration experience. The soothing complex uses an oil/water balance which allows skin tissue to work as a barrier, absorber and regenerator.
  • IWLT Protective Base Suncream – containing 70% more moisture than regular sunscreen, this sun-protector gives mega-hydration without leaving a white, chalky finish. The silky texture helps to naturally hide pores and prep the skin for flawless foundation application.
  • Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer – this cult-favorite product conceals pores, wrinkles and evens out one’s complexion. The unique sebum catching powder controls oil-production to keep skin from appearing greasy. The velvety smooth texture allows for long-lasting, flawless makeup application.
  • Urang Vitamin Oil Serum – this facial oil hydrates and nourishes the skin using rosehip and jojoba oils which penetrate deeply and provide a brightening effect. It also works to repair the skin hiding discoloration and reducing fine lines.
  • IWLT All-in-One Concentrate Treatment Mask – this treatment sheet mask contains pearl powder, Vitamin C and Niacinamide to boost hydration, provide a brightening effect and even out skin tone. The tightly-woven microfiber fabric perfectly adheres to the skin for deep penetration of ingredients.

Just ordered this. I’ll reserve my judgment until the thing arrives and I have tried it out for about a month.. but for now it looks pretty good.

A heads up: the full price for me after taxes (I think in my state it’s about 8%) and the non-Costco member 5% penalty was $167.92. No proper Korean skin care regimen would cost less anyway.

Good sets did not cost much less ~15 years ago, and were not nearly as comprehensive, so it makes little sense that people are up in arms in 2018 about the cost of K-regimens that have over time a) become more effective and extensive as well as b) more beautifully packaged including a nice, clear manual (those didn’t exist so much back in the day, and you had to keep asking other women, who kept disagreeing, which was a f*ing hassle).

Ffwd to 2018, it seems K-beauty fans have been upset this kit doesn’t have a double cleanse element, but I already have the SU:M 37 melting balm (let’s get real; most of us have some type of melting balm or cleansing oil at this point), and have mostly been wanting an affordable good foam cleanser to try. I am not thrilled with the afterfeel of a sensitive skin cleanser I was gifted last year. It only seems to sort of work all right on product-free skin, not on skin with makeup residue.

Yes, there is probably at least some kind of “pink tax” in a way, but the skin care industry overall for women is still far more highly developed than for men, so while that complaint is solid more often than I’d like in other life areas, skin care isn’t one of those yet. I hope it catches up for the men. I, for one, prefer men with great skin, as it is a sign of both health and good self-care.

Oh, and even though it is uncomfortable to think about, the skin care technology we enjoy today from East Asia should probably cost ~2x as high in a just world, given that a lot of it is invented/developed/marketed by women, and the creative power / labor of women is traditionally undervalued, especially in highly patriarchal societies like Korea where the gender pay gap is always one of the worst in the OECD. (look up Korea gender pay gap on Google images and check out the eye-watering bar charts)

Coming back to the kit, I don’t need more of the kinds of other products in it (kinda set with my usual O Hui and Belif moisure/essence/eye cream products) but I was curious about the 107 vinegar thing, the watery sun cream, and needed a primer anyway.

My sunscreen from the highly recommended LRP has unfortunately been giving me flare-ups, which is a huge bummer, because I paid a lot to have 10 oz total heading into the nice weather (though it might have something to do with leaving one of the tubes in the car… which heats up under the sun). I already have a Smashbox primer from a Sephora Favorites kit from last year, but the slippery texture and leaky container meant that it has just been collecting dust in my bathroom this whole time.

Skin care for me is like going to the gym. I already invested in the subscription. I just need to use it. I hope this kickstarts more adherence to a ritual and routine for me this spring/summer.

This arrived today. But I’ll have to wait for a new one to try anything. : (

One of the oils unfortunately had leaked during shipment, soaking the thin paper cardboard cover piece in the way only oil can. Each item is covered by a secure essentially tamper proof perforated cover, so it’s easier to prove in-transit damage than with other kinds of packaging, unless the user manual on top accidentally pushed the perforated pieces through. It’s hard to describe with words, but anyone who gets one will understand what I’m trying to say.

The packaging is really overkill in some ways, as with so many Korean products, but they might have done better advising Costco to put “fragile” or “handle with care” or “this side up” on the OUTER packing box by Costco. Mine had handwritten notes in ballpoint pen and sharpie on it on different sides, showing the thing had been twist-turned upside down carelessly during transit and used as a giant memo pad.

Costco clearly has yet to figure out seamless logistics or returns processes for the .com business. It’s not a given that you can return things to the local Costco if you buy things online, which is pretty nuts, given that people are probably buying from the website due to trust built over the years by shopping at physical stores.

Yup, mine arrived today with the oil open and leaked all over the box as well. Many of the products were bunched up under the cardboard & not in their spaces behind the doors (think messed up advent calendar). Took forever to process an exchange through online chat & now have to wait for another box to ship plus package/ship this one back via ups. The box looks nice but I don’t get to try the products yet either. My guess is this is an ongoing problem and the reason why it’s discounted … maybe they think some with keep it with a leaking product if it’s cheap enough? I won’t use an open product on my face since I can’t verify why/how/how long it’s been open obviously but the oil felt nice on my hand when I removed it to take photos of the pool of oil in the box!

Paige

Urgh, product overload and yet I still need this! Maybe I can wait until it sells out (saving me from myself) or doesn’t sell out and goes on sale.

Paige, it’s on sale today for $50 but it’s public knowledge & will sell out fast I think. Hope you get one!

May Coop Raw Sauce is my #1 favorite product that I’ve found in the past two years, my face drinks this amazing essence up every morning and night, and has never looked better!

I was wondering how good of a deal this is, so I looked up prices (may vary a bit):
01. Maycoop Raw Sauce Mini Duo 1.35 oz – RV $28 for both bottles (on sale for $20)
02. 9 Wishes Rice Foaming Cleanser 4.06 oz – RV $19 (sale $13.50)
03. 107 Core Flex Essential Liquid 1.69 oz – $64
04. Urang True Rose Repair Essence 1.69 oz – $47
05. Tov Camellia Wrinkle Free Eye Solution 0.42 oz – $25
06. Maycoop Raw Moisturizer 1.69 oz – $25 (couldn’t find this size, so price is based off 80 ml)
07. IWLT Protective Base Sunscreen 1.69 oz – $35
08. Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer 1.01 oz – $18
09. Urang Vitamin Oil Serum 1.01 oz – $57

So, looks like it has an approximate RV of $334.

Awfully expensive though I appreciate the concept. I love K-beauty products, but for this price I could get at least 3 PinkSeoul or BomiBox shipments of full size products.

Beccah

Wow! That price seems extraordinarily high! I could never justify paying that!

Apricot

Does anyone know if this is available in-store and if so, is it the same price? I was wondering because on the wesite this price point includes s+h.

Kathie

They have this at Costco if you are a member

Laura

How much is it at costco?

Dawn S

From what I understand it will be online only. Very cool concept that incorporates full instructions for day and night for a 10 step K beauty regime. I am so tempted as I have always wanted to try a full routine. Only thing holding me back is not sure I would do it everyday twice a day and with out following it you might not have the same results.

Rochelle

Dawn, it’s on sale for $50 now if you still want to try it!
