Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit April 2018 Review

Lancome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen, 1.7 oz

Lancome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $40

This is a REALLY watery sunscreen, though I guess that is to be expected from a product that has “super fluid” in the name. When I first saw it out of the bottle I was immediately thinking that it wouldn't work for my oily skin, however, absorbed into my skin quickly and didn't leave it greasy! I was genuinely surprised, and I was happy to realize I could keep this and get good results (sorry, whatever potential friend I would have given this too. Better luck next time).

Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50, 3.4 oz

Supergoop! Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50, 3.4 oz - Retail Value $19

This is a fun mousse that has previously appeared in other subscription boxes (PopSugar, if I am not mistaken). I love supergroup as a whole, so this will definitely be used— especially if I am going swimming since it is water-resistant!

AMOREPACIFIC Resort Collection Sun Protection Mist, 1.01 oz

AMOREPACIFIC Resort Collection Sun Protection Mist, 1.01 oz - Estimated Value $11.97 (Buy the full-sized version for $32)

This went on clear instead of white, but the mist itself wasn't very fine so it still needed to be rubbed it. It has the typical sunscreen scent with a twist of something refreshing that makes it smell actually quite pleasant. It absorbed quickly into my arms, but I probably wouldn't use this on my face if I was going to also apply makeup.

COOLA Rōsilliance™ Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 in Light/Medium, .17 oz

COOLA Rōsilliance™ Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 in Light/Medium, .17 oz - Estimated Value $5.89 (Buy the full-sized version for $52)

Booooo. This tube is definitely at least 50% air, which is a bummer because I love BB creams for the days I don't feel like putting on a full face. This has a really lovely scent thanks to the rosemary, cucumber, and orange extracts, and it provided a nice sheer wash of color. It looks darker than it actually is when you first squeeze some out of the tube.

Clinique Pep-Start Moisturizer SPF 20, .24 oz - Estimated Value $4.16 (Buy the full-sized version for $29.50)

This moisturizer is a bit too thick for my skin, but it would be another good option for those who don't have an oil slick disguised as a face. There wasn't any discernible sunscreen scent, which is nice.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30, .33 oz

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30, .33 oz - Estimated Value $11.88 (Buy a .5 oz. jar for $18)

I loveee this stuff. I am Rouge at Sephora, which means I can get as many 45-minute makeup applications as I want. At a recent visit, the makeup artist used this on my naturally red cheeks before applying any other products, and it really counter-acted the redness! I have been thinking about buying this ever since, so I am happy to have this generous-sized samples. A little goes a long way, and I dab a bit on each cheek before lightly rubbing it in towards my jawline. The SPF is an added bonus to the redness correction, and I love that this both treats current redness while preventing further sun damage. Plus, it is perfect under a full face of makeup.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Pad Self-Tanner for Face, 3 pads

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Pad Self-Tanner for Face, 3 pads - Estimated Value $5.70 (Buy the full-sized version for $38)

I like the regular Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta pads, but I don't know how I feel like this. This is supposed to provide mild exfoliation while also a light dose of self-tanner, but the color doesn't start to show up until 3-4 hours after application. I was so hesitant applying this because I was scared of the results that I didn't see any noticeable color change at all. However, this didn't irritate my skin, so if you're looking for a streak-free self-tanner for your face it may be worth it to give these a shot.

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense SPF 30, .5 oz

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense SPF 30, .5 oz - Estimated Value $9 (Buy the full-sized version for $36)

They call it a “tinted sunscreen,” I call it a BB cream. Names aside, I really liked how this made my skin look:

You can see in the selfie above that my skin just looks awesome, and that is because this bb cream matched my skin perfectly while also providing sun protection. This would be an awesome product for those no-makeup days— because trust me, my skin never looks that good on its own.

Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, .34 oz

Farmacy Green Screen Daily Environmental Protector Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, .34 oz - Estimated Value $7.20 (Buy the full-sized version for $36)

I love the farmacy echinacea green envy line, and I hadn't tried this product from the line before. This rubbed in quickly and didn't leave my skin feeling greasy, and it didn't have a potent sunscreen smell. I would feel comfortable using this under my makeup.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose, .07 oz

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose, .07 oz - Estimated Value $11.20 (Buy the full-sized version for $24)

Even though this lip balm looks like it is bright red, it provides only a very sheer wash of color that fades relatively quickly. The hydration stays behind, however, which is a big reason this lip treatment from Fresh has a cult following. Sunburned lips are the literal worst, so I will definitely be using this on days I expect to be out in the sun.

Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield SPF 30 PA+++, .17 oz

Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield SPF 30 PA+++, .17 oz - Estimated Value $11.05 (Buy the full-sized version for $65)

This is a really neat sunscreen and face primer combination that feels a lot like this smash box primer when applying. It is non-greasy and doesn't leave my face shiny. I brought this sample to work the day we had a field day (my 80’s team came in 2nd place and I am bitter, thanks for asking), and I legitimately went around the office forcing it into peoples hands while reminding of the dangers of skin cancer. I promise I wasn't actually being as obnoxious as that sounds 🙂 Out of all of the sunscreens in this bag, this is the one that I felt would work with most peoples skin types and would absorb quickly.

Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Lotion SPF 30, .5 oz

Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Lotion SPF 30, .5 oz - $12.35 (Buy the full-sized version for $42)

The sunscreen scent in this was really light (I had to really hold it up to my nose to get the scent), which is what I want from a face sunscreen. This absorbed into my skin quickly and left it soft, but I would probably only use powder foundation and not liquid on top of this due to my oily skin.

philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Multi-Rejuvenating Cream SPF 30, .25 oz

philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Multi-Rejuvenating Cream SPF 30, .25 oz - Estimated Value $14 (Buy the .5 oz jar for $28)

This moisturizer is a bit thicker than what I look for in a day cream for my oily skin, and it took a few extra rubs before it sank into my skin. I think this has the potential to be a really awesome day cream for those who have drier skin, however, because it is definitely hydrating without a strong sunscreen smell.

REN Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, .34 oz

REN Evercalm™ Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, .34 oz - Estimated Value $7.60 (Buy the full-sized version for $38)

I absolutely love that this kit included a face mask that is safe for sunburned skin. While I wasn't sunburned when I applied it, it was very soothing and it had a mild, pleasant scent. I would also reach for this mask if I had some angry hormonal breakouts forming because this mask would be perfect for calming my skin down. I thought my natural redness was a bit lighter after using this mask, too.

Shiseido Wetforce Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+ for Face/Body, .23 oz - Estimated Value $12.38 (Buy the full-sized version for $28)

This sunscreen is a clear liquid, and it absorbed into my skin super quickly. I would feel comfortable applying makeup to my face after using this, though since it is a water-resistant sunscreen I probably won't. It has a pleasant scent, but a quick scan of the ingredients doesn't clue me into what I am smelling.

tarte Tarteguard 30 Vegan Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, .23 oz

tarte Tarteguard 30 Vegan Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, .23 oz - Estimated Value $4.33 (Buy the full-sized version for $32)

The sunscreen scent is a bit more noticeable in this lotion compared to some of the other products, and while the description said this wouldn't leave a greasy residue, I respectfully disagree. This wouldn't be my top pick out of all of the awesome sunscreen products featured in this brand.

The Verdict: This is an awesome collection of products from well-known Sephora brands. Not every product worked for me, but in a 16-piece kit, I don't expect them to. I enjoyed trying some new favorites (hayyyyyyy drunk elephant), while also getting some tried and true samples (Murad, I’m looking at you). This kit has something for everyone, and it is the cherry on top that a large portion of this kit goes to charity. Plus I mean— the makeup bag with the tassel. It’s perfection.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this kit is now sold out.

Value Breakdown: This kit cost $41.95 ($36 for the kit, $5.95 for shipping) and I calculated a value of $187.71. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Lacome: $8.94
  • Supergoop: $4.25
  • Amore Pacific: $2.68
  • Coola: $1.32
  • Clinique: $0.93

This kit is a great way to try many sun products. I am working my way through it. So far the tarte and coola look a little too greasy on my oily skin. I loved the color/coverage of the coola product though. The Murad is great and I’m anxious to try DE after reading this review.

I love this kit , I got last year’s one also . The bag’s are the cherry on top. We have a pool and I always have something for everyone that comes over. My face is very sensitive to sunscreens, so I’m excited to see which one will work. Last year it was the Drunk Elephant. This review has me hopeful that the Murad will be a winner.

I snapped this up the second I saw it online! I love it! I actually bought the full size Dr Jart at the VIB sale after using the sample! It is SO good. I also loved the Murad even though I have dry skin. I hate the way sunscreen usually makes my foundation look and that stuff is the bomb. I haven’t tried everything else yet! I sent the link to a friend who immediately bought it in store and she sent it to three more. Ha! Sephora should give me a commission. 😉

I was so excited for the Amore Pacific I assumed it was a face mist with sunscreen so glad I read this! Does the green tint one only work for red tones?

Great review. I got this kit and first product I’ve tried was Cicapair. I love it. Haven’t got to the other products just yet but I do hate that Tarte sunscreen based on my last same of it.

Gatorgirl

This was my first sun safety kit and i was sooo excited to try, i have a sensitive skin. The first thing I tried after immediately opening fhe package was Fresh lip tint. After couple hours my lips were all swollen and got rashes. It happened for the first time. The only thing i liked is that Dr. Jart color correcting treatment.

Sephora inside JCP still has their kits in store. $26, less products but still the ones I wanted, same bag.

I bought two & they are such great deals. One of my bags had a few extra samples, which was a cool bonus. The bag is a great size & the removable tassel is adorable. I never regret buying the yearly Sun Safety Kits!

My “leftover” products that I didn’t want from this kit swapped like hotcakes. Even the bag!

For the past few years I have always bought this kit . I see many of the same things included this time. I actually did not use many of them. Although this is a nice set I can easily pass on it knowing that I will not use most of it. I had to laugh when I saw the Coola booo. Seems they always are at least 50% air which is very annoying given they are so expensive to buy. Just not worth it given the previous experience with these sets.

Has Sephora restocked these in past years? They sold out so quickly and it is not even Memorial Day yet.

Julia

Would like to know that too.

Thanks for the fabulous review. I love BB creams and I am obsessed with Dr. Jart, but it looks like it is time to try the Drunk Elephant. I saw the JCPenney version of the sun kit at Sephora in JCP yesterday in case anyone is really wants one. It is a little different. Have a great day!😎
