Meowbox April 2018 Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had an “under the sea” theme.

Gone Jelly Fishin’ Dangler Toy – Retail Value $8

This is a dangler and it was quite popular with several cats. The “tentacles” are ribbons or something and Angus and Sneaky both loved them (don’t tell them they liked the same toy).

So Bright Freeze Dried Shrimp (0.46 oz)

So Bright Freeze Dried Shrimp (0.46 oz) – Retail Value $3.50

My cats were not so interested in these. I did get them to eat freeze-dried shrimp from another subscription box recently but they just weren’t interested in these. (They would pick up the treats in their mouths but then I would find them in random spots in the house later on.)

Pearl Hunter Toy

Pearl Hunter Toy – Retail Value $7

This toy has several interesting textures. You can hide the little pearl inside the oyster part. The pearl rattles so I have had to put this outside of the bedroom where someone won’t find it awesome in the middle of the night. Angus has been playing with this the most so far.

Sassy Starfish

Sassy Starfish – Retail Value $5

I like the mismatched eyes here. This is a smaller, tossable catnip toy with an unusual and soft fabric for an outer texture. Monkey wanted to rub his chin on this a lot, but Angus has been doing the most playing with it (no surprise, Angus is 2 and the other cats are all at least 9 or 10 or older).

The Empurrium Handmade Whale Catnip Toy

The Empurrium Handmade Whale Catnip Toy – Retail Value $6

I like that Meowbox sometimes sends toys made by smaller producers. This is handmade from felt and has some ribbons coming out where the blowhole would be. Madison liked the ribbons and this toy is also small enough for my cats to toss around.

Here are your kitty pictures:

Angus liked the jellyfish a lot.

He did this with a treat but didn’t actually eat it.

He also liked the “wrong” end of the jellyfish.

Madison was feeling extra skeptical on photo day.

Monkey inspects things before he rubs his chin on them.

She didn’t actually eat this.

I can often get Sneaky to play with dangler toys.

Even Mr. Kitty didn’t want to eat this (he would’ve had a difficult time with his bad teeth as these were a bit hard, and I’ve since learned he should NOT have anything unusual and we are on our way to the vet in a bit as I let him eat some fish yesterday and that ended up being very BAD; I will spare you the details).

Here he is with the starfish toy.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $29.50 for the April Meowbox. That is more than $6 over the cost of the subscription, which is pretty good for a cat subscription box. I like getting all the custom toys as they are all well-made and generally popular with my kitties (the treats, not so much). The theme was fun, as well.

To Wrap Up:

Mine (4) all love that oyster/pearl toy.

My boy Hiccup who is 1 absolutely adores the dangling toy. He’s also super interested in the clamshell one too.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t eaten any treats since I got this box 4 months ago, so I’ve asked them not to send treats anymore. I guess he’s just picky! At least all the toys have been a hit so far! I’m glad your cats enjoy them too and I love seeing their reactions with your review every month.

I liked the sea theme! Some very cute items. And of course I’m always here for the cat photos, especially Mr. Kitty!

As someone who is owned by an orange tabby, admittedly I’m here for Mr. Kitty’s pics and reaction to the items. I hope he is feeling better soon, Ragan.

Yes, the vet gave us some medicine that cleared his problems right up. (And today he went to the eye doctor, who also said he is much improved.)

Sadly, no more tuna for Mr. Kitty.
