Gwynnie Bee is a clothing rental subscription service that caters to plus size women between the sizes of 10-32. Gwynnie Bee allows you to select items you like and they are put in a virtual closet. The chosen items sent to you are at random, but you can select priority pieces to be sent to you first. I just started using the service a couple months ago and can say I always have a lot of fun with this box!

Gwynnie Bee is a clothing rental service, but they also have a marketplace on their site where you can buy strongly discounted used rental pieces and brand new accessories, underwear, and work out gear as well!

Earlier this month, Gwynnie Bee had a promotion where you could increase the items received in your plan for no additional charge for a month. I upgraded to the five-piece plan for the same cost as the three-piece plan for the month of April. What a deal!

Gwynnie Bee April 2018 Review

This review is of the one item at a time for two items that I received April 11th, 2018.

Ruffle Vine Print Wrap Dress by eShakti, size 20w

I have a few dresses from eShakti that I purchased years ago I love, so I had to closet this dress as soon as I saw it! This style reminds me of a dress that Joan Holloway on Mad Men wore in one of the later seasons, so I deemed it necessary to live my Joan fantasy in this piece. The sizing suggested to me was an 18w, but I opted for 20w due to the measurements listing and also to ensure full coverage in this wrap dress. The 20w fit me rather well. The only complaint I have is my bra kept hanging out of the dress, so I had to constantly be mindful of this. Otherwise, I absolutely loved this dress! It is incredibly stylish and has a retro vibe I adore. This dress will look great in spring months paired with wooden Swedish Hasbeen style heels and in the fall you can add an ultra 70’s Jane Fonda Klute era vibe by styling it with a fur collar and sleeve tan coat and brown knee-high boots.

Zanga Sweater Dress by Junarose, size 2x

You may be thinking it is odd for me to receive a sweater dress in April, but keep in mind we had snow here two weeks ago here in the tundra! This hunter green sweater dress is so comfy and cozy. On the chillier, balmy spring days this can be worn without tights along with booties or heels for a chic, yet casual look. The sweater itself isn’t a thick knit and has a cable knit detail on the chest. I wish I had received this piece a month or two back, it would have been my winter go to with leggings and boots!

Medallion Swing Dress in Forever Navy by LOFT Size 20/22

Medallion Swing Dress in Forever Navy by LOFT, size 20/22

I closeted a retro style dress? And the grass is green, right? Um, duh! This tent/swing dress was an absolute must! The color palette on this dress in hues of sea foams, teals, and rusts is to die for! The fabric is a nylon and spandex blend which gives the dress ample stretch. I can envision styling this piece with a mustard yellow cardigan or accessory accents to complement the rich shades and tones in this piece. The fantastic thing about a dress like this too is it can be worn all year! In summer and spring months pair this with heels or sandals and in the cooler months pair with a cardigan, tights, booties, and a scarf for an adorable winter ready ensemble! I love a versatile piece, I tell ya!

Printed Fit and Flare Dress with Keyhole Detail by Gabby Skye, size 20w

It was love at first sight when I spied this number on the Gwynnie Bee site! This dress has such an incredible and classic cut that flatters the silhouette. The muted print also adds to the retro feel of the dress. This could be worn at the office, at a summer wedding, or on a casual weekend outing. This dress styles perfectly with these embellished open toe heels for a polished sweetheart of a look!

Curved Seam Skinny Jean in Rainy Day by RWN by Rawan, size 2x

I’ve had Rawan brand jeans in past boxes, so I was excited to try them through Gwynnie Bee! I love a pant that is immensely tapered, which is ironic since in the 90s I had to have all the flare leg jeans that could be found! Upon trying these on, I realized that the size 2x was a no go. Bodacious babes, I couldn’t even get these pups over my thunder thighs completely; there was no chance in heck of these covering my robust posterior! The measurements don’t seem to reflect how these pants truly fit, which boggles my mind. What a disappointment! The cut and style of these jeggings are fantastic, but if you closet them make sure to go a size up.

Verdict: Gwynnie Bee continues to slay! The selections sent to me this month were cohesive in their retro aesthetic, excluding possibly the sweater dress. I suggest Gwynnie Bee to anyone I meet that asks about subscription boxes because 1.) they are immensely inclusive in their size offerings. They range from size 0-32! 2.) You are able to select the pieces yourself and 3.) It is a rental service! You can wear the pieces and send them back right away and get another item. You are not obligated to purchase the pieces, but if you do they are at a deep discount! And the fact that you don’t have to launder the pieces and dry cleaning is included - WONDERFUL! Their free first-month trial is the cherry on top! Plus, they have deals for existing customers. This month I was able to get five pieces instead of three at the same price! Excuse me for a moment while I go climb on a mountain top to announce my love for Gwynnie Bee!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Four of the five pieces I reviewed are available to rent or purchase at Gwynnie Bee. The sweater dress, sadly, is no longer available for rent or purchase.

Coupon – No coupon required! Just use this link to sign up and get your first month FREE!

Value Breakdown: Gwynnie Bees costs range depends on your subscription and how many items you are sent at a time. I have the $95 three item at a time plan. This includes free shipping and returns. I can get as many pieces as I like monthly, as long as I return each item first. I got three items this month, but I could get several pieces sent to me in a month’s time if I return each piece after wearing promptly. I returned two items before writing this review, so the sweater dress and jegging prices are not listed on my account any longer. The three pieces I still have listed in my closet total alone to $175: The eShakti dress is $58, the LOFT dress is $62.50, and the Gabby Skye dress is listed at $54.50. For those three items alone that is $80 more than my subscription cost!

Ms. B, thank you so much! Not to be devil’s advocate, but I strongly suggest trying GB! Especially since they provide the first month for free!

You alway look so nice. I need you to come dress me. I have no idea of style or what goes together. Or what size I wear. I hate shopping for clothes Xander trying things on.

Nicole Rieder

DeeAnn, I used to hate trying stuff on too, but if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have amazing pieces. Like I have a skirt I got from a vintage store in California in a size 12. I am No where near a size 12, but that thing fits me like a dream fashion is fun and a way to express yourself. Go for it! Otherwise, I would love helping you shop. I live for that! Thanks for checking out my review!

Thank you so much, Justmissjamey! That dress is so comfy and cute!

TraciRhein

That keyhole dress is absolutely gorgeous on you and the close up shot in that dress looks professional! I’d add that pic to your social media straight away!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Awe thanks, TraciRhein! That was a quick selfie I took, so thank you!

Tanya

You picked some fabulous dresses this month, and they were all ones I didn’t closet, so now I get to go add them. 🙂 I also love my subscription. The reduction in laundry hassles is worth it alone. I send my items back pretty promptly, so I get at least 2x the number I subbed for, but usually 3+ more than that!

Nicole Rieder

Glad I could inspire you to closet a few more pieces, Tanya! It is a great subscription box. I am terrible at sending stuff back, but it is one of favorites for sure!

Jen

I got Medallion Swing Dress in Forever Navy by LOFT, size 14 as well; I’ve been a member for a while and this subscription is just the best! I also started getting Nadine West and Le Tote but this one is the one that will never get cancelled.

Nicole Rieder

Yes, Jen! I love this subscription. The fact that you can rent pieces is what makes it so awesome!

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

That sweater dress and the Gabby Skye dress were amazing on you!! I also want to know what your foundation wear is. No bumps or bulges anywhere!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you so much, Michelle. I don’t wear much shapewear. I do occasionally wear Spanx power panty.

Sheree

Love, LOVE that medallion dress!! Reminds me of some pieces from Paisley Grace, I love their stuff!

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

The wrap dress and fit and flare dresses look fantastic on you! You should purchase them!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Awe thanks, Amy! That wrap dress was so gorgeous!

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Agreed! And, at the risk of sounding a bit inappropriate, I would love to know what foundation garments you are wearing in these pics, because your silhouette is flawless and mine is not even though we are of similar shape and size.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks Jen! Tbh I often avoid wearing shapewear, but when I do I wear Spanx power panties.

WendyM

The Printed Fit & Flair dress is perfection! Are you going up keep it?

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

WendyM, probably not. But it is pretty dang cute!

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

If I start the trial, are the pieces to buy or to rent?
Does this mean if I rent, I am renting for free?

Thank you!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Amy, the trial is to rent and you have the option to buy. If you buy you are paying for the pieces separately from monthly subscription fee.

justmissjamey

I’d love to know this as well. It’s kind of confusing. If you sub for say 2 pieces, a month (I know you can send in and get new ones back) but say im subbed for the 2 pieces for 69.00 a month, and say I got the swing and flare dress there, and choose to keep them…..and it’s my first month…how much would I end up paying to keep those two?!?! I’m so confused about how these work if you buy something and how that works out

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Plus, first month is a free trial. You can try it out and see if you love it!

Nicole Rieder

Jusrmissjamey, well, the site will tell you the cost if you buy it. Prices range depending on pieces. Plus GB allows you to accrue points and those. An translate to discounts. But I rarely buy pieces myself because you can rent them for a while. It is a great rental service but I have bought dresses at great deals. They have an outlet store on the site and you can get pieces for sometimes less than $10!
