I didn't choose in time, so Ellie chose my outfit for me. This is the "Desert Sage" look for April 2018.
Here's everything all together! I liked the olive color in the photos online. With the top and the leggings on, it is a LOT of olive, but I think it's pretty flattering on my skin tone.
Marika Strappy Slay Crop Tank in Lichen, Size Medium
This semi-sheer polyester blend top is lightweight and breezy—great for a run or a quick trip to the gym. But the cut is a little off on my body. It's intended to be a cropped shirt, but it ends up hitting me kind of close to where a normal shirt would fall. With it right on the line, it's hard to tell where the shirt wants to be. It's a little wonky. But because I'm always reaching for some simple top to throw on over a sports bra in a pinch, I'm going to hang on to this little guy.
Balance Collection Celeste Ankle Leggings, Size Large
I really love the color of these leggings and the soft, almost jersey-like feeling of the material. The leggings feel as comfy and soft as a knit shirt (rather than the thick, smooth, synthetic feeling that most leggings nowadays have). The high waist is also nice. The open criss-cross detail on the side is going to take a bit of getting used to, by which I mean, I'll have to spend some more time in the sun so that my legs don't look quite so pale peeking out from behind them!
Marika Dani Sports Bra, Size Medium
I like this nylon-spandex-blend bra. It's comfy and secure without being super tight. The straps in the back are wide enough and set in a way that they don't create any odd bulging or lines on me. The front has a netted texture that makes it a little different from an ordinary black bra. Especially on warmer days, I really like racerback bras—they make my broad shoulders feel free and breezy.
Marika Slim Waist Pack
It's the fanny pack of the future! The bright colors and windbreaker fabric may have fallen away, but this sleek, black pouch still provides the same service as the original fanny packs of the 80s and 90s. This one has enough space for flat items like my phone, some cash/cards, and a key or two. Depending on what you stow inside, it can either be worn on your hip, around the front or my favorite, against the small of my back. The waistband is adjustable, but I can say that even when let out, it's still pretty tight around my size 10 hips.
Ellie Steel Water Bottle
The fifth item of the box is this Ellie water bottle. It's a great quality steel water bottle that was shipped separately from the rest of the package. The only thing I'm not so hot on is the fact that this bottle used to arrive as a gift with purchase rather than one of the valued items for the month.
Verdict: I liked this month's outfit, though some of the details weren't my fave. The cropped/not cropped top is probably the item that gets the most side-eye from me, but as I mentioned, I won't let this functional look go to waste. The leggings are comfy, and the sports bra fits great. The fit of the waist pack could've been a bit more comfortable, but it's still useful. And the water bottle is great, though I feel like it should be a bonus item rather than one of the featured items as it used to be. For about $50.00, I got 5 items, meaning I paid about $10.00 per item. That feels pretty fair for the quality of the clothing I got in particular!
