Art Box Surprise March 2018 Review

This letter was included in my package and talks about the artist who is featured in my box this month. It also mentions that $1 from every box purchased goes to support arts programs in public schools. I love that!

“Abstract Key” by Robin Barcus-Slonina

What an unusual piece! I love it! It’s an abstract painting with a tiny key adhered to the middle. Incuding the frame it’s only about 6″x6″, but it’s the perfect size for the place in my home I plan to mount it. I really appreciate that this is original art from an emerging artist.

This card was included with contact information and bio for the artist. Have you seen the show “Skin Wars” on GSN? Apparently, it is a body painting competition, and Robin is one of the producers and judges! Her own artwork includes painting, sculptures, murals, and body paint, and she is known for having highly interactive exhibitions. Cool!

The Verdict: I was really excited to have the opportunity to review this subscription! I am a huge supporter of independent artists, and I absolutely love original artwork and need more of it in my home! I was also very happy that I loved the piece I received this month, but I think that there is definitely going to be some risk for anyone who subscribes to really any artwork or music box. In terms of value, since the piece is original, there is no retail value, so I think the value is highly subjective. On the other hand, $50 for an original piece of artwork that I really like is definitely reasonable.

  1. This is interesting. I paint myself. It’s a lot of fun. I post some of my art on my Instagram Xrazorstylist. I want to do something like this painting. Thanks

  2. Cool box. I love art but I can’t draw or paint to save my life so I live vicariously through your Smart Art reviews. But this box with the completed art is something I may consider for myself. Thanks for the review!

  3. I love it. My daughter and I watched Skin Wars and really enjoyed it. It was pretty cool to see all the amazing things the artist created.
