Winter 2017 Supernatural Box Review

I was a huge fan of Supernatural a few years ago but fell behind after season 6. When I heard about the Supernatural Box I was inspired to revisit and rewatch everything I've missed! I'm slowly getting through the seasons and remembering why I loved it so much! This box seemed like a great way to dive back in.

Now, on to the items!

Each box includes an information card that details the items in your box.

Enochian Brass Knuckles Bottle Opener - Estimated Value $10

The first item I pulled out of the box were these Enochian Brass Knuckles. The brass knuckles with Enochian sigils were created by the British Men of Letters and allow whoever is wearing them to fight angels. Would I suggest fighting angels with these brass knuckles (or ever)? Nope! But I like that I'll think of the Winchester bros whenever I need to open a bottle.

Rowena’s Voodoo Doll Plush

I love getting plushies in subscription boxes and this one is definitely unique! This is so ugly it's cute and is a quirky addition to my cute collection of plush dolls.

Most of the plushies I receive from subscription boxes are displayed on a shelf for a short period of time before getting swiped by my nephew or cat. Rowena's Doll has joined my cat's circle of friends (a hedgehog and a Gremlins doll) so it keeps showing up in surprise locations around my apartment!

Wooden Coaster Set - Estimated Value $20

I've received quite a few coaster sets from various subscription boxes but this is my first set of wooden coasters! I really love how they look and the thickness makes them feel sturdy. I like the slightly weathered look of them and that they aren't all matching designs. I am a bit worried that moisture from glasses could damage these over time but so far they're holding up well.

Pie Slice Ceramic Salt & Pepper Shakers - Estimated Value $15

I always love kitchen and homewares items in subscription boxes, especially fandom boxes. I don't have a ton of space to display collectibles so I love anything that pulls double duty. These cute little salt and pepper shakers are two slices of pie because no one loves pie like Dean Winchester loves pie.

I really like the kitschy look of these little shakers.

Each shaker has a plug on the bottom to fill them up. The back also features the box information. My only complaint is that I wish that information was on the bottom or omitted from the shakers. Overall, these are still really cute.

Men of Letters Key Replica - Estimated Value $20

My knowledge of the latter seasons is lacking so I had to do a bit of research on this one. The box holds the key to the headquarters of the Men of Letters and the top features the Aquarian Star.

The lid of the box swings around to reveal the inside and has a magnetic closure.

The top of the box also flips up and inside we have our Key of the Order of Letters.

The replica key is also a pin! I really like the weathered look of this item and it's a great addition to my ever-growing pin collection.

Mini Poster - Estimated Value $3

The description of the Supernatural Box says it will contain a total of eight items and there are nine so this one definitely has a bonus item feel to me. I actually really like that it's a mini poster because I'm more like to hang this up somewhere instead of a full-size poster. This is currently being displayed on my fridge but I may send it to my friend as a reminder of our old Supernatural binge watching days.

Men of Letters Embossed Journal - Estimated Value $10

I'm a bit of pack rat when it comes to planners and journals so I'm always excited to check out a new one! This journal features a snap button closure and the Aquarian Star to represent of Men of Letters.

The inside is your standard, simple lined notebook.

This item also has the Supernatural Box info on the back.

EMF Mini Planter - Estimated Value $15

The EMF - electromagnetic field meter - is a vital tool for any ghost hunter so it makes sense that this was included! This little planter is a great size for a small succulent or air plant. I already have a few small succulent planters so I’ve been using this as a desktop catch-all.

The details on this planter match Dean’s homemade EMF meter and measures at about 3.5-inches tall.

The detail wraps around to the back and includes the subscription box information.

Men of Letters Sweatshirt - Estimated Value $20

The final Men of Letters reference for this box is the sweatshirt. I don’t own too many fandom shirts because I don’t wear graphic tees or shirts with images too often. I will buy one every once in a while but I’m more likely to lean towards this kind of fan shirt. I like this because it is a very clear reference to the show without just having a huge single Supernatural image.

The Supernatural - Join The Hunt logo is visible on the lower corner. This baseball style sweatshirt is lightweight - good for layering at conventions if you want a subtle nod to your favorite hunters.

Verdict: The first Supernatural Box was really fun for me! I thought this was a fun mix of homewares, replicas, and apparel. I’m curious what other Supernatural fans think because I’m just getting back into the show so this felt like a fun starter pack that got me even more excited to tackle the rest of the series. I could also see this being an awesome gift to the Supernatural fan in your life. I really enjoyed the replica items and I’m excited to see what’s included in future boxes. For $49.99 a quarter + $7 shipping, I received an estimated $113 worth of products, based on similar items.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, Spring 2018 will be your first box. Check out the latest spoilers here.

Coupon – There are no coupons at this time.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $49.99 + $7 shipping, which means that each of the 9 items in the box has an average cost of $6.33.

Do you sell the subscription boxes when you are done with them? I am searching for winter2017 and spring 2018 Supernatural Culturefly boxes. The show is my mom/ teen daughter bonding time and my 14 yr old would be wild if I could find the 2 boxes we missed before subscribing. Thanks for you article.

Supernatural fan here – from day 1 to current!

I’m not a collectibles person so I never get these types of boxes – would be mostly “junk” for me. But I do think I’d like the sweatshirt, journal & coasters!

I have very few people to talk to about my love for this show other than my BFF’s teenage sons. 🙂

I’ve been watching Supernatural since season 1, so it’s been a part of my life for well over 10 years, but there’s nothing in this box that appeals to me – well, maybe the coasters, and maybe the planter. Based on this box and the spoiler for the next one, I wouldn’t dream of subscribing. (I find it a bit puzzling, considering that it’s Culture Fly, and I think the Pusheen box is generally AWESOME).

I cancelled too. But I did so because of the spoiler of the figure “Dean” that they released. It’s was so utterly disappointing and obviously not Dean that I immediately cancelled. It just looks like some generic random dude.

This first box was alright for me. I was willing to give it a go for awhile, but that figure they teased was just not ok. Maybe when the third box rolls around they will tease something I like.

Up to date Supernatural fan here. 😉

When I opened this box my response was: “meh.” There wasn’t one single item that I feel in love with. I had recently purchased this Castiel plush from Hot Topic:
https://www.hottopic.com/product/supernatural-castiel-plush/10782019.html

and wondered why something like that wasn’t in the box.

So, I was disappointed when I reflected on what I paid for the box versus the amount of items I have collected here and there or have gotten in other geek boxes (green army man and “Baby” Impala come to mind).

Out og everything I liked the journal the most; but truthfully, I am a journal fiend and any journal like that would have made me happy.

The Men of Letters key and Rowena’s voodoo doll… Ah, Rowena… we’re nicely done.

The pie shakers, EMF planter and sweat shirt were disappointing.

I think because Culture Fly did this box I had high expectations. If it was from some other box sub company and less expensive (with less items, fine) I wouldn’t have been so disappointed. I know some people hate them but if this had a Pop or some other figure I would have been much happier.

I am the only person I know who loves Supernatural so I can’t easily gift the stuff I don’t like away (and I just haven’t found the time to try to resell my sub box castaways) . So, with a heavy heart I canceled this sub.
