I am one of those people that dropped the sub. To be fair, it’s a fine sub, just not for me. I only like matte shadows, and good luck finding matte in the pallets. I knew that going in, but I thought there would be other things to try and fall for. Instead, since November I’ve ended up with a brownish & a dark purple lipstick, shiny/glittery/oddly colored blushes & highlighters, and a primer that emphasizes my pores. There was usually 1-2 things per box that I kept, but it wasn’t worth the sub. After giving it a chance for 4 months, I pass. If you like shimmery and glittery makeup, this will be your favorite box ever!

I’m seriously confused about all the people who are always commenting about how Boxycharm is “no longer the value/as good as it used to be.” I’ve gone through tones of old boxes, and personally signed up the month before they put in the Tarte palette, and I have to say, the quality and value has only gone up.
From only a year ago the brands have slowly all become more and more recognizable and big name, even for the large ticket items. Also, there regularly are large ticket items. It used to be you’d get a couple loose makeup geek eye shadow pans thrown in if you were lucky for eye products, now you get a whole Pur palatte. The only indy brands are high quality, more expensive ones now. No more boxes where the only recognizable names are MUG or Colourpop.
Speaking of, as much as I love Coloupop, and would love to try MUG, I haven’t actually gotten anything that low of value in months. The boxes have gone up a solid $30-$40 from what they were even a year ago. And it’s not like people should be having a sudden problem with the color selection, boxy has always had more out there color options as a very real and likely option to receive.

Don’t even get me started on the “there are too many palettes” people. I’m not sure how one gets angry at getting lots of product for your dollar, I signed up to get makeup, and especially signed up for Boxy because I knew it’d have lots of palettes and be a great value. If i wanted to not get makeup for my $21, I’d just burn it.

In short, if you’ve been hoping to jump on this box but are now nervous from all the complaints that “It’s really going down hill fast from what it used to be” just know it’s objectively not (Unless you consider more well known makeup, bigger makeup, and a $35ish value increase as “going down hill”). Yes, the makeup you get is likely to follow the latest trends (which I personally count as a bonus, you get to try them out without breaking the bank if it’s not for you/the trend ends quickly), but so long as you’re not trying to use this to get only work makeup, you’ll find it a great value with lots to try.

Should be noted, since I sound very harsh here, this is not at all a criticism of people who have canceled because they realized the box just wasn’t what they were looking for. I can certainly understand how it wouldn’t be a good match for many people who feel they’d rather spend their money in something more suited to there own taste. This was just a critique of the many vague but harsh criticisms I’ve seen on many different media sources complaining about how the box is “going down hill” with no real specification to how (and are usually the people constantly threatening to drop, but never do). I’ve seen more than a few potential subscribers who’ve expressed interest in the previews, but are scared to jump on what seems like a sinking ship, and it makes me sad to see people scared off of a sub they would probably love, and a brand that’s worked hard to give a great product lose business due to reviewers being petty. By all means, people should leave honest reviews. Complain about poor CS or broken/shoddy products. It’s important for people to be aware of this, I just hate seeing reviews punish a company because the person didn’t realize a product wasn’t to their personal taste.

My comments are not showing up. 🙁 even if I come back later, they still are not here.

I cancelled because it just wasn’t worth it for me. I LOVED some of the items I would get but when you’ve got beauty on a budget you’ve got to make cuts :/

I know i”m going to be tempted but I honestly have only used maybe five items out of the last six months and most of those were to give to my mom. I don’t know how people go through eye shadow pallets. Even when I was going all out for work I still couldn’t finish off any of my UD ones. (Granted I do have five at once)

I love Boxycharm but do understand getting fed up with the standard beauty items. I have considered stopping all of my boxes…but then I get weak. LOL, someday…

I AM SO EXCITED WITH THIS PALETTE. I do not have any with those colors, and my makeup collection just started, I want to have it in my hands. I did not take the BC in January because I did not like any of what I had, and the January palette seemed horrible to me but everyone likes different things, I returned on February 6 and left the waiting list on the 17th, also very happy with my box of February (still on the way because I live in the Dominican Republic), new brushes are always welcome! I wait for you March box

Very tempted bc of what an awesome deal this is but I am so overloaded on these types of products and there are so many spring makeup launches of awesome products that I am gonna try to restrain myself. Still have unopened blushes and shadows I haven’t played with but I use that soiree diaries pur palette all the time and this looks just like it (obviously a little more colorful)

This is a great sub but I just don’t need more brushes and I don’t use blush. The palette is very nice but I’m kinda getting sick of eyeshadow. I’m going for more of a natural look these days. I still have Ipsy for now. But I’m kinda getting sick of that also. Need a fun Subcription not more makeup. I like leggings but the ones I see are to expensive or I don’t see reviews on them to know if I’d like them. I just don’t see anything yet. I got Boxycharm for years they are the best makeup subscription.

Try Ricky’s NYC Cult Crushes for “fun” and “out of the box”. I quit ipsy for Ricky’s, and I’m loving it! Even if I only like/use two of the five items, they are usually full-size and retail for so much more than the $11 the sub costs.

I might try that. Ipsy has had way too many misses lately. Last month was great, but not holding my breath for a repeat.

Dunno.
I am completely uninterested in Boxy right now. I’ve read hundreds of reviews and seen hundreds of spoilers. Most people who are unhappy have the exact same complaints. So it’s definitely something that continually happens.
Bad C.S.
Too many palettes
Broken/ missing products etc.
And the list goes on!
Just don’t think I’m up for all that mess at this point. It sounds very stressful and beauty boxes are my treat to myself. You know? So right now I’m just…meh….

I’ve been with them almost a year. I had one issue with an eyeshadow being broken, but it was because the mail people throwing it around andnshe formula was soft and buttery (which is a good thing) I just packed it back into place and they gave me charms for the hassle.

I’ve never had missing items, or anything like that. I LOVE we get eyeshadow pallettes. I’m on the team of you can never have too many, and it’s always fun to mix and match and play around in them. Heck, i LOVE it’s a makeup box . I sub to other boxes to get skin, nails and the like. So really there are only so many options they can send. And the variety or luck of the box gawds, is always exciting, and can go either way, but hey, for 21.00 it’s a bargain.

Also, to be honest, I’ve never had an issue with billing or anything like that in the year I have been with them. They do seem to enjoy the glowy side of things, and I wish they would also do matte (like setting sprays etc) but I have found a couple holy moly grail items from this sub more then any I have (I believe I’m down to 9 or 10 subs now) but the lashes they sent a few months back (I’m a newb on these and they can be expensive, but the ones they sent were easy and I was able to wear them many times, and that mac “spiked” brow pencial was amazing.

I’d say you should go for it and try it and see what you think, you can always cancel if it don’t work out, but for 21 dollars a month and a variety and quality if products they have sent (for the main items) seem to be a good value .

I really want just one more spoiler before I subscribe. I’m hoping for any kind of skincare!

They rarely send skin cares

I’ve been on the waitlist for months!!! It would never take me off, kept saying I was unable to get off the waitlist, I changed my cards a few times, my address and never got off. It allowed me to sign up just now no problems.

I unsubbed. I am sure many people did as well because of no wait list. The boxes have to many palettes month after month, not enough beauty products, to many brushes and the makeup always the wrong color for my skin tone. Box value and price is great. Yet I dont need more stuff i dont want and wont use

I think it’s funny that when BC said there would a palette a month for the rest of the year (and beyond?) people went crazy for it, everyone was thrilled. Now, people are paletted out lol

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

LOL – Its time for Boxycharm to switch from the palette to something else. If the box would be every other month or quarterly i would not mind the palette as much.

One thing i am not fond of is you can not skip a month with boxycharm, you have to cancel. Then get back on the waitlist

WB

I did as well. I appreciate the products they send out each month, but I have so many palettes right now it will take a decade to get through them all. I would rather give someone else my spot than have more stuff that sits in the box.
