Lola Beauty Box February 2018 Review
This month features all makeup products. Let’s check it out:
Each box comes with a card detailing the brands and items included along with the prices and websites for each. This month’s theme is “You’re the Highlight of My Life”.
SUVA Beauty Hydra Liner in Gold Digger - 10g, Retail Value $12
This liner is a hard “cake” style liner that needs water to activate. Once wet, the gold glides on opaque and metallic with a long wear and fade-proof finish. I actually use a waterproof setting spray to wet it and it last through the shower. I’m hoping to try the rose gold or one of the other beautiful shades because it is such a great liner. See me wearing it below.
Aesthetica Cosmetics Angled Eyeliner Brush - Retail Value $14
I like when boxes include a tool needed for one of the products, This brush is great for the SUVA liner above but is also perfect for filling in brows or using for a sharp crease. I couldn’t find much on the website, but the brush is tapered to a point and feels nice in my hand.
Katherine Cosmetics Giving Back Makeup Palette in Courage - Retail Value $44
The Courage palette is a cool-toned palette with 4 eyeshadows from matte to shimmer, 2 blushes, a shimmery highlighter, and a finishing powder for a full look. The powders are soft and easy to blend and complement each other beautifully. The palette includes a magnetic closure and nice, big mirror so it is perfect for on the go. The best part: Katherine Cosmetics donates $1 from the sale of each palette to City of Hope, which supports the care and treatment of cancer patients.
Dr. Denese SPF 30 Defense Day Cream - .7oz, Retail Value $28
This product is supposed to be three products in one: an anti-aging day cream, 30 SPF sun protection cream, and a light coverage makeup. I find that it feels much like a good primer (it is dimethicone based) and creates the perfect foundation for makeup. I don’t think it gives the coverage of even my CC creams, but it does make my skin look mattified and smooth. I always appreciate an SPF product that doesn’t make me look ghostly and this one is perfect because it has a luxurious finish. The products from this company are on the pricier side, so it’s nice to receive this as part of a subscription.
Emani Cosmetics Blush in Caliente - 4.25g, Retail Value $10 (Listed as $16 on the info card)
I find it a little strange that they included another blush since there are two in the palette, but it is a good product. Emani is a vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics company that are formulated to be friendly to even the most sensitive skin. Good for me! This blush is a great neutral color and is packed with pigment. The finish is perfect and it lasts all day. The compact is great because it is easy to open, feels high-end, and has a mirror.
Here are swatches of the palette eyeshadows (top left 4), blushes (bottom left 2), and finishing powder and highlighter (right bottom 2); Emani blush (top right); day cream (right, second from top); and gold liner (right, third from top).
Here is a look created with the palette. I went light on the eyeshadows and used the lightest blush, so this look could definitely be amped up if you prefer a bolder look. The finishing powder goes on translucent even though it looks very white in my swatches.
Here, I’ve applied the gold liner to my upper eyelid and used the Emani blush on the apples of my cheeks. Yellow gold is not my favorite shade for my skin tone but I like how it adds a pop of brightness to my lid.
The Verdict: This month, Lola Beauty Box has included all makeup products. I like a full face palette and love the inclusion of a great sun care product. Everything is full sized and with a value of $108, they come through on their promise of at least a $70 value. That’s great for a $21 box that always introduces me to new types of products and brands. Lola Beauty box is actually one of my favorite beauty boxes because there is always at least one product that I enjoy enough to repurchase for myself.
