Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Doctor Who” Review
This month’s box is all about Dr. Who! We’re greeted with artwork of the 11th and 12th doctors, as well as companions Rose and Clara. The back breaks down all the goodies contained within!
Tardis Magnet – Estimated Value $4.00 (based on similar product)
This month’s fridge magnet is of the Tardis doing some serious time-traveling! I love all the colors in this. The rendering of the space elements is so nice; they’re almost photo-realistic but they have an almost dream-like quality.
Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Necklace – Estimated Value $20.00 (based on similar product)
Now here’s a statement necklace any Dr. Who fan would love! These shiny discs are actually printed with Gallifreyan language in addition to the phrase the 10th Doctor once used to describe time. This piece is really well-made and feels solid without being too weighty. And it’s soooo shiny!
11th Doctor Fez Earrings – Estimated Value $6.95 (based on similar product)
These earrings are a pure homage to the 11th Doctor! I really like the design on these dangling earrings; the little bow tie beneath the fez bobs most pleasingly when they’re worn. They have kind of a cartoon-like quality to them that’s also super-charming.
Doctor Who Bracelet – Estimated Value $10.00 (based on similar product)
I’m in LOVE with the color of this bracelet! This piece is stretchy and goes right over your wrist, but the silvery accents make the piece feel really substantial. The “I Heart Doctor Who” charm is so dainty and cute! I think it would be great with jeans and a fandom tee, but it could also definitely stand up being paired with a sundress.
Doctor Who Notepad – Estimated Value $6.40 (based on similar product)
This notepad is awesome because it’s almost stealthy in its design. If you looked at it quickly, you might not even realize that it’s a geek-fabulous item! I love the navy border along the edges that frame the lighter blue color of the paper. The Tardis on the right-hand side is just kind of chilling there, making its statement, but not over-the-top screaming “HEY, IT’S DOCTOR WHO!”
Dalek Keychain – Estimated Value $10.85 (based on similar product)
This keychain is KIND of adorable; at least, as adorable as an alien mutant enemy of the Doctor can get! I really like the way this was molded and painted – it looks really expensive, but at the same time, it was crafted in such a way that it’s not lead-heavy. No one wants to lug a heavy keychain around! As always, I love that these boxes always include a little bit of bad in with the goodies!
This month’s print is of the 13th Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker! There has been a TON of discussion over whether or not the next Doctor should be a woman, and I’m personally super-excited to see how it all plays out when the new episodes start back up in October. This portrait is so lovely; the watercolor style really lends itself well to any kind of setting or any kind of decor. This would look just as awesome in a frame on the wall in someone’s home, or it would be awesome pinned inside a cubicle at work!
Weeping Angel Nail Polish – Estimated Retail Value $6.00 (based on similar item by the same artist)
I was THRILLED to see nail polish in this month’s box! This is the month’s handmade item, and it is a homage to the 2007 episode of the show called, “Blink,” where the Weeping Angels are introduced. Although these predators are major bad news in the show, this nail polish is actually a complete delight! The formula for the polish went on really evenly, and gave great coverage with only one coat! I am obsessed with how the creator made this polish look SO much like stone – I kept staring and staring at my nails, but I have no idea how it was done, so I’ll have to just settle for admiring it!
Verdict: It’s no secret that I adore these boxes, and this one was amazing because there was such a fantastic variety of items in it. I loved receiving my first-ever Kal-Elle box nail polish, and getting a notebook from the office supplies realm was so welcome. I thought the box was a great mix of where the show has been in the past while still looking toward the upcoming season!
