Fortune Cookie Soap “Soap Scouts” March 2018 Review

This box comes with a mini handbook detailing the products, how to use it, the unique scent, and ingredients.

Love-Me Chain Shimmer Shower Oil, 4.2 oz

Love-Me Chain Shimmer Shower Oil, 4.2 oz

When I first saw this I was like “ehh, another body oil.” That line of thinking is so wrong, Y’all! As soon as I sprayed this super fine oil on my skin, it immediately hydrated without leaving my skin greasy. The shimmer wasn't super noticeable (which is a plus, because I don't want to walk around looking like a vampire in the sun in Twilight), and the awesome juicy, fresh scent made up of pineapple, mango, and peach made this one of the best smelling items in the box! I was planning on giving this to a good friend who loves Sailor Moon before I tried it, but now I think this needs to stay with me.

Moon Princess Clarifying Shampoo, 4.2 oz

Moon Princess Clarifying Shampoo, 4.2 oz

Because my hair is very thick and curly, I only shampoo my hair once or twice a week. Luckily, this box showed up on shampoo day so I was able to use it without worrying about stripping my hair of its natural oils. I LOVE the cotton candy scent of this shampoo, and it left my hair feeling very clean without being dry. It was easy to rinse out, and it didn't cause any extra tangles in my hair the way some shampoos can. I think this is technically a deluxe sample size instead of a full size based on other shampoos available online, but if so this is a very generous sample! This will last for 20 washes with my hair, easily.

Aqua Illusion Liquid Bubble Bath, 10.5 oz

Aqua Illusion Liquid Bubble Bath, 10.5 oz

When I pulled this liquid bubble bath out of the box I was so excited over how big this product is! The scent of flowers and bergamot made this a light and delicate bubble bath, perfect for relaxing. I used ~about~ an ounce in my bath (I didn't measure) and it still made a big mound of bubbles that I was so excited to sink into. It didn't really dye the water blue the way I was hoping (I love colored baths!), but that means no messy cleanup after the water drains away.

Here is the big pile of bubbles a tiny bit of bubble bath gave me!

Bring the Lightning Bar Soap, 1 bar (estimated at 6 oz)

Bring the Lightning Bar Soap, 1 bar (estimated at 6 oz)

Mmmm, this soap smells good. Its predominant scents are lime and vanilla, and I love citrus soaps— they are so refreshing! This is a good sized bar that should last for a while, and I love the bright green color. It makes me feel like my bathroom was extra festive for St. Patricks Day, even if it was just by coincidence. It also doesn't leave my skin dry after using it the way some other soaps can. Win!

Fire Soul Crackling Bath Crystals, 16 oz

Fire Soul Crackling Bath Crystals, 16 oz

Y’all… this product is pop-rocks for your bathtub. You throw a handful in the warm water and you hear popping and crackling and it is magical. I am so excited to get a WHOLE POUND of this awesome stuff. This is my other favorite scent, tied with Love-Me Chain. It is a mix of bergamot, mandarin, lemon satsuma, and lime blossoms, and it adds a bright cheeriness to my bath. Plus it is so fun! This is a unique product to anything I have ever used before, and I am excited for the baths to come with this big bag.

Midknight Rose Charcoal Mask, 2 oz

Midknight Rose Charcoal Mask, 2 oz

I didn't know that FCS made face masks, but I was excited to try it regardless. This is a really thick mask that doesn't dry as you wear it, making it really comfortable. This mask also doesn't need a long time of wear— the instructions only call for 5 minutes! When I washed it off I noticed that my face felt softer, and the next morning my skin was looking more clear and bright. This mask is supposed to be scented with strawberries, lemonade, and raspberries, but I didn't really pick up on those notes. To me, it smelled like a charcoal mask that wasn't as powerful as other masks I have tried. That being said, I am not bothered by the lack of scent for this face mask— if I am using a face mask I care more about results, and this delivered!

Here I am wearing my mask about to dive into my bathtub of bubbles.

Verdict: Wow! Where has Fortune Cookie Soap Box been my whole life? Between this box and Lavish Bath Box, I may never step foot in a Lush store again, and I am a-okay with that. The sizes of the products included are awesome— they really jam pack the box full of goodies. I love the unique products and that each month features products specially created for the theme. Bath products are one of those things I get really excited about, but FCS still managed to blow me away! Even though I am not a part of the Sailor Moon fandom, I can still really appreciate the level of care and detail that went into curating and creating this box. I can’t wait for next months Marvel-themed box!

The Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up today your first box will be the May box (which is Star Wars themed!)

Value Breakdown: This box cost $34.95 ($28 for the box + $6.95 shipping) and I received 6 items, bringing the cost per item to $5.83. I think that is a fantastic value, especially since these items aren't available for sale yet!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I am SO happy to see this great review of the box.
When I got a FCS sub box, the items were so teeny, I really didn’t get much use out of anything but this has FAB sizes and the price is great for what you get.

I’m subscribing! This is light years away from what they originally offered.
YAY!

It is very, very easy to end up a Fortune Freak. Then you have to upgrade your status to a Fortune Ninja when it comes to ordering new products on launch days. The online community of fans they have is amazing, so it’s good to be a part of the diehards.

I appreciate that their customer service is exceptional & their creativity knows no bounds. They listen to what their customers want and strive to make it happen in a way that no big corporation can do.

Jessica thanks for showing the mask on! seeing them on makes me smile they’re so fun.
Also, I’m obsessed with Lush, but live nowhere near one, so this box looks like the perfect antidote!

So excited for my 1st box next month!! The wait has sucked but I missed the cutoff for this box by mere days. I hope these are consistent since it is pricey but I am so a bath girl. I can’t wait!!!

I had ordered the Easter box (Toy Story themed). It was to ship Monday, 3/19. No update on that yet.

Yesterday they emailed me a code for $10 off, orders over $35. One-time use only, expires after one month.

Anna

Are you going to review the Easter box ?

Hi Anna!
Yes, my Easter Box should be delivered tomorrow! I am very excited.

Julie

The Easter box is awesome!! I LOVE everything in it!

Anna

Awesome, I’m thinking it will be at least a week before mine arrives.
Like Carol above I ordered the Easter box too but mine hasn’t shipped yet. I’m sort of disappointed that with it being a pre-order that it hasn’t shipped yet.

Kris

I’m so glad MSA is reviewing FCS…I hope that the trend continues! I have been subscribing to Fortune Cookie Soap for several months now and I am always happily surprised by the all the various and amazingly scented items I receive! And it’s not always just soap/bath products that I receive. Last month I received a jar of wax melt, a highlighting palette, a perfume roll-on and several other super wonderful products that I didn’t even know that I needed! I definitely recommend FCS!

Word of warning- the Moon Princess shampoo is clarifying shampoo. Which means if you have colored haired (especially vibrant) it will strip away that color.

Loved this box though! I’m excited to buy more from this collection!

Scarlet

This isn’t necessarily true. Sulfate based clarifying shampoos tend to strip color, but many clarifying shampoos are color safe. I skipped this month so I haven’t seen the ingredients for this particular shampoo, but Fortune Cookie Soap doesn’t use SLS in their other shampoos.

Jackie

Scarlet – you are correct. However, Shannon (one of the owners) gave the warning herself. 🙂

Ash

You’re right. You should never use clarifying shampoo on color treated hair. Also, I see this one includes sulfates… Also not good for colored hair.

Thanks for the warning, Jackie! I was not aware.

Iggy'sRock

What kind of dyes do they use in their products?

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica Hapak

Hi Iggy’sRock!
They mainly use micas and powders, cosmetic colors (organic and inorganic) but they indicate which of their products use which on the ingredients lists
Hope this helps!
