Healthiest Baby February 2018 Review
Previous boxes have come with an information card that offers some advice for the season, but this month is a little different. 21 Bundles is in the process of rebranding as Healthiest Baby, and this refresh aligns with their sister shop, Healthiest, in which you can buy items that you’ll find in your monthly boxes. I’m loving the new look and feel — especially all of the bright colors in their box and info card design!
Each box comes with a sticker that coordinates with your child’s age. If you’re currently pregnant, it reflects how far along you are in your pregnancy. This is a nice detail that I always enjoy since it makes for a personalized-feeling experience!
Yorba Baby Wash & Shampoo, 10 fl oz – Retail Value $12.95 (out of stock)
Healthiest Baby often includes products from Yorba Organics, and I’ve loved everything that I’ve tried from this brand. This vegan body wash and shampoo is a 100% natural formula with wild-harvested mafura. (Mafura butter is made from the ground seeds of an Eastern African tree, in case you were wondering. It’s apparently great for softening and hydrating the skin!). The pump makes it easy to use, and the formula is naturally foaming. This head-to-toe cleanser is non-toxic, chemical-free, biodegradable, free of parabens, sulfated surfactants, petrochemicals, synthetic color and fragrances and is safe for newborns, babies, and toddlers. As I’ve found with other products from Yorba, like their family hand wash, its consistency is pretty runny — like a more liquid-y gel. It has a light orange color and clean, citrusy scent. I found it to be really pleasant smelling and a joy to use during bath time for a gentle clean!
Apple Park Organic Rattle – Estimated Value $15.00 (based on similar items)
This plush little rattle is just adorable. It’s exactly the size of my palm and made from organic cotton. The cute embroidered face is just lovely, but the type of animal is a bit ambiguous. I’m going with cat… any other guesses? Regardless, my baby is at the age where he loves faces and noise-making toys, so I’ve been introducing them during play time. The rattle inside this toy makes a sort of muted jingle sound that’s totally non-offensive, and the fabric on the front is lined with a crinkle material that makes for additional stimulating noises. I also love that it can be hand washed with cold water and mild soap and thrown in the dryer on the tumble setting.
LifeFactory 9 oz Glass Baby Bottle – Retail Value $16.99
What a nicely made, substantial bottle! We’re still using the little 4 oz guys over here, so I’m not used to these big ones yet. We’re getting there, though — little one is eating like a champ. I am primarily breastfeeding, so our bottle usage is few and far between, but this will be absolutely terrific to use with some of my stored breastmilk to give me a little break in the future. I love the colorful silicone protective sleeve to guard against accidental drops and to add some extra grip. This bottle is made from thermal shock resistant borosilicate glass and can be used with a different sippy and flat caps for extended use. Even though it’s not right for us just yet, I can’t wait to use it when my baby is a bit older.
Chewbeads Brooklyn Teether – Retail Value $14.99
Orson is shoving everything into his mouth right now, so we’ve become slight teether hoarders. Give us all the teethers! The soft silicone ring is extremely malleable, and it is attached a little wooden ring and flexible bird shape. The multiple textures are really nice, and I love that the bead ring is easy to grip. The aqua color is also just my style!
Wee Gallery Stroller Cards, I See in the Market – Retail Value $12.95
The illustrations on this card set are so vibrant and cute! We also own the ‘Art Cards for Baby’ from Wee Gallery, and the black and white animal designs are really beautiful, so I’m not surprised. These beautiful cards promote exploring a baby’s world with simple, open-ended prompts that align with the fruits and veggies that are commonly seen while at the grocery store or farmer’s market. For example, “Broccoli is green. What else is green?” These five beautifully illustrated cards are super sturdy and held together with a ring and strap that connect to your stroller or bag. I can see these making a daunting grocery trip way easier to overcome — make it an interactive game!
Nellie’s All Natural Baby Laundry Sample Pack, 15 Loads – Buy an 80 load bag for $18.00
It’s super important to me to use all natural detergent on not only baby’s clothes but my husband’s and mine, as well. I tested out this laundry detergent on the sheets in our beds (we do some co-sleeping), and they looked fresh and smelled clean. I love that there are no harsh chemicals in this formula!
OXO Tot Cleaning Set – Retail Value $4.99
This set of straw and sippy cup brushes gets in all the nooks and crannies. The small brush is for lids and pump parts (which it works SO well for!), and the long one is for straws and bottle parts. The flexible pick is for sippy cups, but we’re not there yet. It’s so nice to feel confident about effectively cleaning all of our bottles and pump parts.
Green Sprouts Wipe-Off Bib – Buy a set of 3 for $6.99
Oh wow, the garden scene design on this clear plastic bib is too cute! It’s waterproof and large enough to offer a generous amount of protection. We plan on starting solids in the next couple of months, and the wide pocket at the bottom of this bib will be perfect in ensuring that we don’t make a huge mess with each feeding. You can just flip the pocket back to wipe the inside clean. The closure is velcro so that you can customize the fit. This bib is recommended for ages 9-18 months, so, even though it was sent a little early for a box geared toward a 4-5-month-old, I like that Healthiest Baby is helping me feel prepared for the future.
This herbal salve is more than just a diaper balm, according to Motherlove’s product description. It can be used on baby bums, of course, but also on a nursing mother’s nipples as well as minor scrapes and abrasions. I put a tiny bit on my baby’s bottom when I noticed that it was a little red, and it seemed to be pretty soothing. The irritation disappeared within a day.
Verdict: 21 Bundles, rebranding as Healthiest Baby, is one of my favorite boxes to receive monthly. Its curated assortment is consistently top-notch, and I adore receiving all natural products and organic toys to introduce to my baby as he grows. This month’s box has an estimated value of approximately $85.00 which is pretty great considering the $39.99 box cost (plus $3.00 US shipping). This averages out to you paying approximately $4.78 per item for this particular box (but each ‘month’ box varies).
