Trunk Club Plus Clothing January 2018 Review

So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works: When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected several items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! There is also an option to allow your stylist to send a few surprise pieces.

This packet was included in my trunk.

The front of the enclosed booklet now has instructions!

trunk club january 2018 note from stylist

Inside is a note from my stylist, Maureen. She has been my stylist for a couple of months now, and I really like how easy it is to chat wit her via the app! She is super accessible.

trunk club january 2018 invoice

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep.

trunk club january 2018 return label

These items were also in the packet. When I've finished repackaging the items I don't want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up! So convenient!

'Abby' Slingback Sandal by Munroe

'Abby' Slingback Sandal by Munroe - Cost to keep $189.95

I am still very happy that my new stylist is remembering to send me shoes in a wide size, and fortunately, these did fit! Unfortunately, they did not look good. I'm not entirely understanding what they are made of, but it's some sort of stretchy gel-type material, and it bunched up and looked bad on me. I am also not super wild about the color. I think I have to pass on these.

'Ora' Block Heel Slingback Sandal by Bella Vita

'Ora' Block Heel Slingback Sandal by Bella Vita

'Ora' Block Heel Slingback Sandal by Bella Vita - Cost to keep $99.95

These shoes, on the other hand, are completely my style! I love the color and the suede, and I really love the knotted detail! But unfortunately, these do not fit. And with this style, I can't go larger or the peep-toe becomes non-functional.

Everst II Pointy Toe Bootie by Bella Vita

Everest II Pointy Toe Bootie by Bella Vita - Cost to keep $79.95

These boots fit well, and I really like the texture and zipper detail! I don't like the material or color, though. I have mixed feelings about these. They are a faux leather, so I'm not sure if they would wear well, either. I guess I am kind of picky when it comes to shoes.

V-Neck Swing Tee by Sejour

V-Neck Swing Tee by Sejour

V-Neck Swing Tee by Sejour - Cost to keep $49

This is a nice, lightweight cotton tee that is slightly sheer. I like the pleat detail in the back! I just think it's pretty expensive for a white tee.

Polka Dot Crop Pants by Sejour - Cost to keep $69

I love these pants! I am on denim burnout at the moment, but I am in need of some new non-denim pants, and these are awesome! They are a poly blend, but they have a bit of that shantung feel. They also have a good amount of stretch, and they do not wrinkle easily. I really like the Swiss dot pattern, too!

Wool Blend Coat by Halogen

Wool Blend Coat by Halogen - Cost to keep $159.90 (currently on sale for $129.90)

Check out this coat! Thanks to the wool content, it is nice and toasty! Which means I probably wouldn't wear it until next year, as I think most of our cold days this winter are behind us here in Georgia. I have to say, this is one of the nicest coats I have tried on in terms of quality, and I like the cut, too. But I am at the age where I need to stay away from animal prints. Also animal prints make me do this:

Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee

Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee by Sejour - Cost to keep $49 (currently on sale for $32.83)

This is a black, cotton/spandex blend, long sleeve, crewneck tee. The cut is not great on me, nor is the length, and I prefer a more open neckline. I think the quality of this garment is high, but I still feel like it's a bit much to spend on such a basic piece. This is an easy pass.

Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee

Rosita Velour Pants by Persona by Marina Rinaldi - Cost to keep $150 (currently on sale for $100.49)

To be fair, these velour pants are an absolutely beautiful color, and they are another high-quality garment. Aside from that, they are too big in all dimensions, especially length. I took this picture just to show the many feet of excess material! If I liked them enough to buy them, though, and they fit width-wise, I have to mention here that you can take any pants you buy from Trunk Club and get them hemmed for free at Nordstrom. But in addition to the sizing issues, I don't really like these; they are just not my style.

Plaid Hooded Sweater Coatigan by Sejour - Cost to keep $99 (currently on sale for $66.93)

I don't know what a sweater coatigan really is, but I love this! I love the colors and the plaid, I love the hood, it's super warm, it looks good on me, and it seems very well made. It's not too heavy, though, so I think I could still get a few weeks' worth of use out of it.

Lace Point Hem Top by Dantelle

Lace Point Hem Top by Dantelle

Lace Point Hem Top by Dantelle - Cost to keep $49

This cotton blend top is gorgeous! Maureen was right, I do love this top! I like the color as well as the color fading and bleeding throughout. I also like the shape and the lace hem. Plus I think it looks reasonably good on me, and the price is good for such an unusual piece.

Relaxed Cotton & Cashmere Sweater by Caslon - Cost to keep $69

This sweater is super cute, and I love the color! It's also very well made, and the turtle/cowl neck doesn't choke me or make my neck look stumpy. I am kind of torn on this item, though, because I don't think we will have enough cold days ahead to justify purchasing it. Not sure what to do with this one.

The Verdict: I am a big fan of Trunk Club! This month they sent me ELEVEN pieces! It's a lot to take in, I know! I got a good mixture of hits and misses, but I think my favorites would be the polka dot pants, the lace top, and the "coatigan". So much fun stuff! I think Trunk Club is a little on the spendy side, but it's still loads of fun to try all the pieces!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual's preferences as well as what's available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the 11 items inside is $1063.75. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That's an average $96.70 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

Christi

If you happen to have a Nordstrom credit card, you get the styling fee of $25 waived.

Virginia

My favorites were the last three items, coatigan, gray top and the blue top. The coatigan really looks good on you must be the color. Hope you get the sale price.

If I lived in GA I would definitely tell you not to get the leopard coat if it has that affect on you!

Lol! Thanks Virginia!

Thanks for linking the items directly (rather than to the box sign-up page)! Loved the last 2 shirts.

Yay! Thanks Emmy!

You look adorable, but I do think the Caslon sweater, even as a relaxed piece, is a little too big for you — note the droopiness on the sides — and also way too long in the sleeves.

Thanks RH!

Nothing great in this box, but the leopard suits you the best. I’ve seen better pieces from Stitch Fix.

Anna

Thanks Amy. I like be Stitch Fix also!

Please stop aging yourself…I’m sure I’m older than you and still wear an occasional animal print…although I’m not a huge fan of them but your age shouldn’t stop you from wearing what you like..I’m from the south as well so I understand about winter being just about over

Anna

You’re right, of course LorieLynn. It is a super cute coat.

I love the polka dot pants. I think they are fun while being classy at the same time.

I wouldn’t buy sweaters at full price. Stores already have winter clothes on clearance. Wouldn’t make much sense to pay full price for something you won’t wear til next year.

Thanks Ks! Agreed about winter markdown season.
