Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Information Card Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Information Card Back

This month’s card is all about finding your “Pure Bliss” in the New Year. I love that the information card also highlights each product with a little detail.

Let’s see whats inside!

Sweets GiftBox January 2018 The Cookie Department Sweets GiftBox January 2018 The Cookie Department Back Sweets GiftBox January 2018 The Cookie Department Open Sweets GiftBox January 2018 The Cookie Department Half

The Cookie Department: Great Full (Sweet Potato, Cranberry, & Oatmeal), 3 oz. – Buy a 12-pc box for $34.95

This vegan cookie is probably the best thing I have ever eaten. I wasn’t sure how this was going to taste once I saw that it had sweet potato in it. Sometimes I find sweet potato to have an odd flavor baked down and blended with other ingredients. However, the mixture of sweet potato, cranberry, and oatmeal made this rich-in-antioxidants cookie divine! It was super soft from the oatmal like it was freshly baked. There was a light spice and tartness from the cranberries that made this really taste like a homemade dessert. I loved this so much I am considering buying a box to have on hand!

Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Frans Crunch Bar Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Frans Crunch Bar Back Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Frans Crunch Bar Open

Fran’s Chocolates Crunch Bar With Roasted Nibs, 1.1 oz. – Buy 12 bars for $46.00

You might be wondering like I was, what are roasted nibs?! Well, they are fermented cacao beans that have been cleaned and lightly crushed. They have a super bitter chocolate taste to them which was the star of this chocolate bar. Honestly, I couldn’t get past how bitter everything tasted, like a burnt coffee almost. I had a few bites of the bar and while I enjoyed the overall crunch, this just wasn’t the type of sweet treat I enjoy.

Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Cannoli Chips Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Cannoli Chips Back Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Cannoli Chips Open

Cannoli Chips Cinnamon & Sugar, 5.1 oz. – Retail Value $7.98

Cannoli chips where have you been all my life?! Each chip was so crunchy yet they melted in your mouth like an actual cannoli. The chips were perfectly seasoned with cinnamon and sugar. They were sweet but not overpowering. I could see these being great topped with ice cream or even used as decoration on a cupcake. For me, I ate these right out of the bag and could not put it down!

Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Becky's Sea Salt Caramel Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Becky's Sea Salt Caramel Back Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Becky's Sea Salt Caramel Open

Becky’s Blissful Bakery Sea Salt Caramels, 1.16 oz. – Buy a 4 oz. bag for $9.99

I love caramels! These gluten-free caramels are buttery and so sweet. They are creamy and honestly melt in your mouth, which is probably why I ate this whole bag on my own in a day! The sea salt cuts through the richness to provide a very decadent flavor that I truly loved.

Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Chocolate Moderne Truffles Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Chocolate Moderne Truffles Back Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Chocolate Moderne Truffles Open Sweets GiftBox January 2018 Chocolate Moderne Truffles Inside

Chocolate Moderne Champagne Chic, 1 oz. – Buy a box of 4 for $13.00

These are double chocolate, yes double, champagne truffles. The rich filling is made with chocolate ganache and a rare champagne pressed from chardonnay grapes. Honestly, I have become a truffle snob over the years as my Dad often travels to Switzerland bringing home incredible truffles for our whole family to enjoy. However, these truffles were right up there with some of the best that I have tried! The champagne really shined in the rich creamy filling and the double chocolate layer made the outer shell just break apart at each bite. More of this, please!

Verdict: I think the Sweets GiftBox keeps getting better and better! I thought I loved the December box, but then came the January box and I have found a new love. I more than enjoyed each of the treats featured this month, and am going to be buying more of each very soon. Plus, I know a lot of family members that would love these treats as well so I will be keeping these links handy to purchase as gifts for them down the road. While it may seem that you aren’t receiving a ton of treats each month, the value really comes in being able to taste test such high-end treats that, from what I could find, many only are sold in bulk.

  1. I so not like dark chocolate at all and I think every sweet box should have a button or something to say yes if you do and also if you don’t like chocolate at all as well. I love reading sweet treat box reviews… Yummy!
Side Note….Amazon Sweet Surprise is cancelling very soon sadly. I received an email like 2 weeks ago says so. I really loved that box. So if you got a button you should hit it up asap for your last box.

  2. I’ve been getting the boxes since they first started.I like that there are so many unique treats in the box every month.I signed up for the yearly plan so the boxes are $19.99. For the money I like the box and don’t care about the $ value. There have been so many good things that getting 1 I don’t like isn’t a big deal.

  3. The value is about $20 here. For me, the retail value of products in the box must exceed the cost of the box. Especially because I don’t get to pick them, so there’s a risk with receiving a few items that I won’t/can’t eat/use. I notice that you did not list the prorated value of each item that’s normally sold in larger quantities, so I did the math on each one individually. Do you only do that with boxes that were not sent to MSA at no cost for review?

This is $21 at the most. I guess I could try to convince myself that the remaining $4 are for shipping or the curation, but this just does not feel like a sub box that delivers good value for the paying customer.

    • I agree with you. The value doesn’t appear to be there. I’m one of the few people who doesn’t like dark chocolate so I would be dissappointed with pretty much half of the box.

    • Thanks for your feedback! That breakdown is listed when we can find accurate retail value or when items aren’t sold in bulk. For me, this box really is about the curation and the items being higher quality chocolates. These aren’t little snacks that you can find at your grocery store, they really are very special treats.
