Quirky Crate January 2018 Box Review
Here's the info card for this month's box. They highlight the month's featured artist on the back of the card. After exploring Thais Marchese's work, I can say I'm 100% smitten 😍
Fred-O-Vision Retro Alarm Clock - Retail Value $24.00 (Found here for $4.00)
I've been playing around with the idea of not using my phone as my alarm clock anymore, just so that it won't be near my bed, tempting me to stare at it into the wee hours of the night (and not, y'know, going to sleep). That process, of course, requires me to get an actual alarm clock. Do they even make those anymore?! Turns out, yes! And better yet, they put them in cool subscription boxes! This one is so freakin' cute, too. Designed to look like a retro TV set (Those knobs! I had one with knobs when I was really little!), this red-orange TV only takes a few button-pushes to program, and the alarm noise is actually from a retro game show. This clock has a remote that actually looks like a remote, too, in case you have to place the clock out of arm's reach.
Flamingo Crossbody Purse - Listed Value $18.00
How. Funny. Is. This. PURSE! It's honestly not really my style, but it's so silly and clever that I'll definitely keep it around and maybe gift it to someone whose wardrobe it'd fit. The purse is made from faux leather that's stiff enough to keep the flamingo's neck aloft even when it's sitting down. I love the chain legs with little-webbed feet at the ends. The way they dance alongside you as you walk down the street is so cute. Oh, by the way, the chain strap measures about 43 inches long, and the body of the flamingo is about 8 inches long.
Sleepy Mountain Treat Yo'self Enamel Pin - Retail Value $10.00
Here's the enamel pin by this month's featured designer. I love this little ice cream cone! I'm a strong supporter of treating yourself now and then, whether it's to soft serve (which I also strongly support), a vacation, a shopping day, a sheet mask, or even just a really nice nap. This inch-long pin is so beautifully made—everything is crisp and vibrant—and I love the rosy pink colors. I can't wait to pop this on my spring jacket!
Quirky Crate Heart Breaker Socks - Listed Value $7.00
My day-to-day wardrobe is usually pretty neutral. (Meaning black, black, and more black. Okay, and maybe a white stripe or two.) But I like bringing color into my ensemble through makeup and accessories. The socks in this subscription box are just bright enough to get noticed without being too wacky. This month's pair is getting me ready for Valentine's Day with their red hearts. (Hopefully, my Valentine's Day will have more full hearts than broken ones!) The sky blue is a nice contrast to the bold red. They're also soft and relatively thin. They're comfy enough for around the house, but fit closely enough that I can wear them with dressy shoes as a quirky statement look.
Rainbow-Shaped Enamel Necklace - Listed Value $12.00
Eeeee! I love the pastel hues of this little rainbow pendant! This is just the understated pop of color I like in my outfits. Plus, I mean, it's just so sweet! It almost looks like it could be a piece of candy, it's so upbeat and adorable. The chain is about 17.5" with a 2" extender, and the charm is about an inch long. Love, love, love!
Love Capsules - Listed Value $3.50
Wait! Don't eat these capsules! They might look like a regular vitamin capsule (and are the same size), but these are actually tiny note-delivery systems. Pull the capsule apart, and you'll find a tiny piece of colorful paper rolled up and sealed with a tiny brass ring. I feel like this would be a fun way to send some love to a sick friend. I might also write little positive notes to myself on them and keep them in a little dish so that I can pull them out and read them when I need a pick-me-up. (Or even better, a chill pill...)
Girls Support Girls Print - Listed Value $12.00
Heck yes, they do! This 8.5" x 5.5" print is really cute, and while it has slightly odd dimensions for framing, it'll look awesome tacked to my fridge or above my desk. Also, shoutout to this box for treating this print like a real art print and packaging it in a nice plastic sleeve and a cardboard backing! I always feel so sad for art prints that appear by themselves alongside info cards in boxes. I feel like they deserve a little more love!
Love Patch Greeting Card - Listed Value $8.50
This next item is an awesome combination of a greeting card and a fuzzy patch. It's basically the best Valentine ever. I'm not sure if the patch can be ironed on, but it has a solid border on it if you want to stitch it to something. I like the retro vibe of the design and the doodle-inspired greeting card is super cute.
Verdict: Quirky Crate is juuuust the best. I always have so much fun exploring the goodies inside of this (delightfully designed) box. This month's box was equal parts pre-Valentine's-Day fun and general playfulness. I wish the purse was more my style (it might be just a bit too quirky for me...), but I can't wait to find someone to gift it to! Oh, and I looooove that this box takes time to celebrate a female artist every month!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order soon to get the February box! Boxes ship of the 15th of each month.
Value Breakdown: This box cost $40.94 (price + US shipping), though I estimate that I got about $95.00 worth of value inside. A few of the items only had listed values to go off of, of course, so you can also look at it this way: The items I found values for online had a value of $34.00, meaning the average value of the other 6 items in the box must be $1.16 (based on the price I paid for the box).
