Tribe Beauty Box December 2017 Review

This month’s box includes products from different categories that can be used to create a whole look. Let’s see what I got:

Tribe Beauty Box December 2017 - Info Cards

There are three cards included. The first is a card with the theme “Au Naturel!” and a description and value of each product. The small card has a 10% off coupon code for a friend. They also include a blank face chart so you can record a look that you create with the products.

Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette

Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette - Retail Value $46 (found here for $20)

How pretty is this palette!? Tarte always impresses me with their packaging. This palette has gold-foil accents, a big mirror, magnetic closure, and a nice heft to it. Plus, it smells like chocolate. The 12 buttery shades can be used as eyeshadows or to sculpt the face. All of the colors are neutral and, I think, universally flattering. The palette comes with a booklet with some looks that are a great start for these shades.

Evelyn Iona Green Tea Primer tube

Evelyn Iona Green Tea Primer

Evelyn Iona Green Tea Primer, 20ml - Retail Value $29.50

The skin prep item this month is a hydrating primer that uses dimethicone to smooth and prep skin for makeup. I notice a velvety soft finish after letting it sit for a minute and my skin feels hydrated for longer than with moisturizer alone. Looks like the company will be reformulating this primer without dimethicone soon to make it more natural.

Stila Silicone Brush #37

Stila Silicone Brush #37

Stila Silicone Brush #37 - Retail Value $18

This silicone applicator was created specifically for Stila’s foil finish eyeshadows but it works well for any metallic or sparkly eyeshadows. The tip is a solid piece of silicone that is soft and easy to clean. It would be great for packing on shimmer and even works well to apply the shadows in the Tarte palette above. You have to use a separate blending brush to blend.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Berry, 5ml - Estimated Value $12 (buy a full size for $21)

This shade is one of 31 shades in this line and I love it! The velvet chisel tip applicator helps to keep crisp lines around my lips and apply the liquid evenly. It goes on like a rich gloss and eventually, after the glossiness is gone, sets to a stain that lasts for a while. BTW, this is a deluxe sample size packaged in cute Christmas ornament packaging.

Hard Candy 12HR Stay In Line Mechanical Eyeliner in Black Magic

Hard Candy 12HR Stay In Line Mechanical Eyeliner in Black Magic sponge

Hard Candy 12HR Stay In Line Mechanical Eyeliner in Black Magic - Retail Value $6.05

Of all the black eyeliners I have received in sub boxes, this is a middle of the road liner. It is a twist up liner that has a built-in smudger. When applied, it takes a couple of passes to get opaque coverage and smudges easily to achieve a smokey eye look. I don’t think it lasts 12 hours for me but will last through my workday.

Swatches of the eyeshadows in the palette are on the left and the contour and highlight shades are the bottom 6 right. The eyeliner is top right with the lipstick below.

Here is a look using the products from this month. I used the palette to do a really light, neutral eye look and contour. The eyeliner adds a little definition and the lipstick gives me a pop of bright color. This is definitely a look I would wear every day and could easily be built up to a more dramatic look.

Verdict: This box has a value of $111.55 which meets their promise of a value of at least $100. I’m super happy with all of the products this month but especially love the Tarte palette and Too Faced lipstick. Four of the five products are full size and they all could work with a variety of skin tones. This box is a little more expensive than other makeup boxes but I think that the value of the brands is there. It is also a bi-monthly sub so you are only billed every other month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you’ll get February’s box as your first box.

I signed up! I love UK beauty boxes, and this one is Canadian, so I’m excited to get this one as well. It’s just fun to get beauty boxes from other countries. (I still love my American ones too). I’m probably going to get some dupes, as I already had the Clay Play and two of the Evelyn Iona primers, and looking forward, I already have this Huda lippie x2, but someone will want them. I’m looking forward to this box!

This looks like the kind of box I’ve been looking for! Thank you for the review.

That palette is so gorgeous, the pics don’t do it justice It was the size of the whole box lol I was surprised it fit in it, my box weighed 1.5lbs and it was mostly because of that baby:) I actually like it a lot more than the palette in the limited edition boxy! Its the best palette I’ve gotten in a sub before hands down, but that’s just me ;). I loved my box!

I loved everything about this box it’s my favorite out of all the ones I get. What impresses me most is there customer service I asked a lot of questions because December was their first box they answered right way on instagram. I ordered this box on a Wednesday and it was on my doorstep on Saturday the week before Christmas. I love this palette it definitely smells like chocolate it’s so pigmented and gloss on like butter I think I’m dropping the rest of my subs and keeping this one I just get too many every month

the palette is so basic

Tribe Beauty Box

The palette is a face sculpting palette. So contours and neutrals only! That was Tarte’s intention for making it!

I signed up for this box in November and was impressed with the December box. The Tarte pallet is beautiful and the colors are perfect for my light complexion. And the primer! You only need a pea size amount to cover the whole face and it really does leave your skin looking and feeling fantastic.
I’ll also add that the customer service is FANTASTIC, I was having an issue applying a discount code for the Feb box and the owner jumped right in and took care of it for me within minutes. Join the FB group and chat with the box curator, get sneak peaks, gifts (my first box included everything in this review and a full size Becca highlighter compact) for engaging on the page.
Overall, I’m enjoying the box and the community it’s established for members. I’m a fan! If you’re interested, member’s can supply you with a discount for your first box.

This is so cool. I’m seriously considering signing up even though I have boxy, allure, ipsy, and birchbox. I wish they had a Twitter or other community since I closed my Facebook account years ago…

Hey I understand I have them all too plus the target box but let me tell you I’d dump them all and keep this one maybe keep ipsy because I love their bags and iv only had them since October but it’s every other month which is good and bad

Michelle

I am sure I will be in the minority but that palette looks muddy. Same colors you can find everywhere else and probably most have. Nothing unique at all. I realize that there are just so many colors and shade ranges in the world but they are all beginning to look the same to me.

The palette is so versatile for me. I use the lighter for eye base. Plus there’s a perfect match for my brows. Not to mention contouring. Love it!!

Definitely keeping this box on my watch list.

The green tea primer and the silicone brush are what fascinates me most about the box. 🙂 Watching for this box’s reviews in the future! 🙂
