Fandom of the Month Club December 2017 Review

Cardalone info card

This month’s box surprise theme is “Secret Garden,” which is one of my favorite stories from childhood (Truth: as an adult, I’m still completely obsessed with the ‘93 movie that stars Maggie Smith). When opened, this box greets you with a pretty card proclaiming the theme for the month, and the flip side has all of the social media deets for Fandom of the Month Club.

Key Magnet

Key Magnet

Perfectly in tune with this month’s theme, this magnet has an antique key nestled among some vines. Each month, you’ll get a magnet from Fandom of the Month Club, and I love the purple background for this one.

Secret Garden Quote Pouch

Secret Garden Quote Pouch

All of the items in every Fandom of the Month Club box comes in a unique pouch, and this month is a painterly rendering of a door that no doubt leads to, yes, you guessed it, a secret garden. The pouch’s design is made complete with a quote from the “Secret Garden” novel and is printed on sturdy white cotton with a zipper closure. This will be a perfect insert for my purse, to corral all the gadget chargers and zip drives I seem to carry around daily!

Floral Print Heart Earrings

Floral Print Heart Earrings

These earrings were a sweet surprise! Covered in a navy fabric with an olive-and-teal floral print, these studs interested me by technically being a geometric shape, and still fitting the secret garden theme. They’re a half an inch in width, so they’ll make a solid statement without being too in-your-face. I think they’d look like heaven paired with a denim button-down!

Key Necklace

Key Necklace

This long necklace has the same quote as this month’s bag! The key has a nice heft and I like that it’s on a long chain. I’m not sure I’ll actually wear it anywhere since it’s not quite my personal style, but it would look really cool hanging on a hook somewhere, maybe near the succulents I’m trying to keep alive this year!

Embroidered Ring

Embroidered Ring

Even though this piece isn’t quite my style, either, I can certainly appreciate its uniqueness! Set in a brass-colored, adjustable band, its purple, green, and white embroidered flower stands out against a sweet pink background, accented with just a tiny bit of glittering gold. I like that this piece is adjustable so that anyone can enjoy it!

Wildflower Bracelet

Wildflower Bracelet

Easily my favorite piece in this box, this resin bangle is faceted and has real flowers captured within. They look to me like white and purple statice flowers, which are wildflowers I saw all the time growing up in rural Western Pennsylvania. I called ‘em “paintbrushes” as a kid, and I’m not sure if that is a colloquial term for them...or if I just made it up! I like this bangle’s slim fit - it’s a nice statement piece without being too clunky.

Verdict: This was my first Fandom of the Month Club experience, and it was really neat that the theme was something that meant so much to me as a kid. The six items were super-cute and seem like fairly good quality for the price of the box ($16.75 for month-to-month after shipping). It breaks down to about $2.79 per item! The resin bangle and the pouch itself were my standouts from this box, and I know exactly which of my lovely friends will be receiving the other pretties for Galentines’ Day gifts!

It’s funny how styles can differ 🙂

I didn’t get this month’s box but the key would have been my favorite item! I also liked the earrings but the rest would have been a miss for me. I am getting next month’s and am excited about it!
