Bulu Box is a monthly fitness and weight loss subscription. The original Bulu Box is focused more on fitness and general health supplements, and they also offer a Weight Loss box that focuses more on diet products.

Bulu Box January 2018 Review

There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:

Bulu Box January 2018 Booklet Front

Bulu Box January 2018 Booklet back

Bulu Box January 2018 Coupon

Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.

There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box, although this one did.

Bulu Box January 2018 Alkalizing

Multiforce Alkalizing Multi-Mineral Dietary Supplement Powder in Natural Mango Flavor (1 serving) and Natural Lemon Flavor (1 serving) – Buy 30 Servings for $29.99

I received a rather large bottle of this in a fitness subscription box last month, so I’m already familiar with this product. As a biochemist, I don’t buy all of the hype around alkaline foods and beverages (your body does a pretty good job at maintaining optimum pH without assistance from this type of product). But this contains magnesium, so it can help with blood pressure, getting better sleep, and overall calmness, and it’s worthwhile to try because of that. I prefer the mango flavor, personally.

This product also appeared in my Weight Loss Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).

Vade Nutrition Dissolvable Protein Scoops Original Combo Pack

Vade Nutrition Dissolvable Protein Scoops Original Combo Pack (1 serving vanilla, 1 serving chocolate) – Buy 30 Servings for $29.99

These are single-serve protein powder (whey) samples in dissolvable outer casings. The casings are made of food-grade ingredients and, after a bit of shaking in water or blending in a smoothie, they dissolve. If you don’t want to mess with loose powders and a scoop, these are perfect. They do dissolve well and the protein blends well because it is whey. (The Vade website says the original price is $75 for 30 servings and that $29.99 is a sale price, but I think they are just trying to make you think you are getting a deal and never intended to actually charge the $75, which would be very, very high for this type of product.)

This product also appeared in my Weight Loss Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).

Tru Women Plant Fueled Protein Bar in Glazed Donut

Tru Women Plant Fueled Protein Bar in Glazed Donut (1.69 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $33.48

This is a new product that you can’t yet buy, so I’ve linked to the Bulu Box page for it, where a price is listed (as well as a further link for the manufacturer’s “under construction” site). These are plant-based protein bars so they have that texture that is not quite as smooth as whey-based bars, but they are vegan if that is something you are looking for. They are not bad in terms of flavor; they actually do taste like donuts. I am not sure why they’re marketed to only women as I really think they could have wider appeal. (You are not going to see a guy eat one of these at the gym because of the packaging!)

A different flavor of this product also appeared in my Weight Loss Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).

Tru Women Plant Fueled Protein Bar in Peanut Butter Cup

Tru Women Plant Fueled Protein Bar in Peanut Butter Cup (1.69 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $33.48

The same goes for this one as the one pictured above; I actually liked this flavor a bit more than the donut but that’s no surprise, peanut butter/chocolate anything is my weakness.

A different flavor of this product also appeared in my Weight Loss Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).

Vital 4U Vitamin C Drink

Vital 4U Vitamin C Drink (2 packets) – Buy 12 Packets for $8.95

These are immune support supplements; they have vitamin C (of course) as well as zinc and vitamin B12. Bulu Box has really been hitting the zinc supplements lately; we got some last month, as well. But it is cold season and if you take zinc at the first sign of a cold, it could shorten the duration. What I like about these is that they mix with water well because they’re already liquid, instead of powder. That makes them more portable because you don’t have to have an immersion blender or shaker bottle handy to get them mixed well.

Goodwipes Body Wipe (lavender scented, 1 count) – Buy 10 Wipes for $8.99

I am noticing this month that there are a lot of products marketed for women. I am sure I did put my gender in the profile I filled out, but I would be interested to know if male subscribers received different products. Anyway, I’ve tried the male/gender-neutral version of these and they are nice in certain situations (like when you have plumbing issues at home and can’t take a shower, which has happened to me in the past year). I will hold on to this one for now; if I hoard body wipes from subscription boxes, I have them when I need them and I never need to buy them.

This product also appeared in my Weight Loss Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).

Verdict: There were six items in this month’s Bulu Box. How much value to assign to each depends on how much you paid for the box. If you paid full price, they average out to $1.67 apiece. I got in on a $5 for life deal, so the average cost per item is $0.83 for me. You can currently use our coupon code MYSUB599 to get your subscription at $5.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription! From my perspective, the individual item values were generally above $0.85, and usually above $1 (or more) as well, so I feel like I got a good deal this month. It’s not the highest value box I have ever received, but everything was useful and the value was at least equal to what I paid.

I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB599 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, February would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.

Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB599 to get your subscription at $5.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!

Value Breakdown: At $10 for the box, you are paying about $1.67 per item.

I tried using the coupon code and it says not valid? 🙁

I just used the code and it worked. I did first try it for the 6-month subscription, and that didn’t work. It looks like it only works for the 1 month sub (and will keep recurring at that same rate).

Great review Ragen. This is the 1st time I have gotten any similar items to what you post. Weirdly enough I got everything exact as you.
I am glad they only sent 2 protein bars, those were yummy, I agree. Sometimes plant based can not be the greatest taste.
I have heard great things about the wipes. I am saving mine for when I need it also.
I did like this box. It’s one of the few I will use everything. But when I don’t use items, I always know someone who can.
I am definitely interested in hearing what the guys received.

I got the exact same box. I’m not sure if I’m glad or disappointed that they seem to be drifting away from variations and more toward everyone getting the same thing.
