Tea Box Express December 2017 Review

You can usually expect one tea (sometimes more), one accessory, and one edible item (sometimes more) in this box. Occasionally there will be other tea-themed items as well:

Fred Cozy Up Mittens Tea Infuser

Fred Cozy Up Mittens Tea Infuser – Retail Value $10.95

This is cute. It’s a silicone tea infuser. One mitten has holes and the other one is solid and can be used as a weight. I didn’t actually use it for this month’s tea because I could tell it needed to be brewed in a larger amount than what would fit in the mitten for all the flavors to come out (more on that below). But, I drink a lot of tea and I have a huge stash at home as well as in my office and I have a couple strong teas with finer pieces that are perfect for this.

Salt of the Earth Bakery “The OMGCB”

Salt of the Earth Bakery “The OMGCB”

Salt of the Earth Bakery “The OMGCB” – Buy 3 Packages for $18

These are salted caramel brownies. I am totally on board with the salted caramel food trend. I have had these before so I know they are delicious. (I opted to wait until just before eating to remove the plastic to preserve freshness for as long as possible.)

3 Lollipops from LeccareLollipops

3 Lollipops from LeccareLollipops – Buy 20 Assorted Lollipops for $25

LeccareLollipops is an Etsy shop making lots of fun, custom flavors. I am especially intrigued by the glitter lollipops and also the ones with flowers as I browse through their shop. Anyway, these were fun to try out as they weren’t your typical lollipop flavors (for example, the purple one was “blueberry cheesecake”).

White Christmas Tea from Savoy Tea Company package

White Christmas Tea from Savoy Tea Company loose tea

White Christmas Tea from Savoy Tea Company – Retail Value $8

This package didn’t have a weight printed on it but I am guessing it is the 2 oz size. This has black tea, white chocolate chips, peppermint, and red safflower (which is probably for color). The actual tea leaves are somewhat large, so you need to use an infuser with a lot of holes for optimum contact of your hot water with the tea leaf surfaces. In the picture below where it is brewed, I used a steel infuser ball, but I had better results later with a large amount of tea in an infuser like this one. This combination is a really good one for winter, though the white chocolate isn’t a super strong flavor.

Here is the tea brewed.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $18.95 for the two items from the December Tea Box Express that are sold individually. (Please keep in mind that I am estimating the tea amount to be 2 oz.) That leaves $13.04 of the $31.99 value (which includes the shipping cost) for the lollipops and brownie. Although that seems a little bit high at over $6 each, it is important to note that you can’t buy only 1 brownie box or only 3 lollipops from either seller, respectively, and both also charge shipping (shipping from the brownie company is $9 flat rate!), so I would say there is some value in getting to sample from these companies/makers before committing to a larger purchase. At any rate, I personally enjoyed every item this month (and the brownies were particularly decadent).
